Kameron’s figure faded into the distance completely. The whole Atkinson family now felt as though it had been engulfed in a thick, oppressive fog! Everyone’s heart raced and minds buzzed in disarray. It took them what felt like an eternity to calm down!
Silence! A dead silence!
The previous boisterous mansion now lay in eerie quiet!
This haunting tranquility deepened, wrapping everyone in a blanket of fear!
At last, a piercing wail shattered the chilling silence. The Atkinson family members could no longer contain their grief. Cries erupted, and they were calling out Fletcher’s name.
Instantly, the entire Atkinson family was consumed by sorrow!
Tanner, Bruce, and other big shots could no longer hold back their feelings, either. They gazed at Fletcher, who sprawled on the floor, bloodied and motionless. They lapsed into speechlessness in the wake of their shock.
Now that Fletcher was dead, it seemed they had no need to stay here.
Without a moment’s hesitation, and without offering a single word of condolence, they turned and left the mansion. Deep down, they all knew that without Fletcher, the Atkinson family was utterly nothing. Their respect for the Atkinson family had been solely rooted in Fletcher’s high status. Now, with Fletcher gone, the Atkinson family was nothing more than a hollow shell.
After understanding the details of what had happened, Kayden murmured the name, “Kameron Moreno!”
He was well aware of who Kameron Moreno was; he had heard that name when he killed Damian. Kameron was Damian’s master. However, Kameron’s intent to kill Fletcher was not fueled by a desire for personal vengeance but driven by a higher command.
As for who could wield such authority over Kameron, it was unmistakably that enigmatic organization, Hellblazer!
Kameron’s action to kill Fletcher likely came from the order of Hellblazer, rather than stemmed from his personal vendetta. He was merely a pawn in Hellblazer’s game.
Kayden’s suspicions weren’t baseless. Given Kameron’s personality, if he truly sought revenge, he wouldn’t target Fletcher; he would come to confront Kayden directly. After all, Kameron was a person who would proclaim his intent to kill beforehand. Thus, if he’s gonna seek for revenge, he would come find Kayden, who murdered his apprentice, and instead kill Kayden’s subordinate who had already quit for three years.
That’s not possible! And it didn’t make any sense!
So, Kayden’s belief that Kameron was a subordinate of Hellblazer was grounded in concrete reasoning, not mere speculation.
Of course, this was just a guess. It was equally possible that Kameron was seeking revenge for Kayden, and this was simply his way of operating. No matter what, Kameron was no ordinary adversary since he had the power to defeat Firefist. But now that Kameron had chosen to stir up the trouble, he had sealed his fate!
Kayden would never stand by and let anyone harm those he cared. Even though Fletcher was no longer among the Zodiac Generals, he would willingly plunge into the depths of danger for Kayden!
Thus, Kayden would not turn a blind eye to this. Anyone who dared to hurt his men would pay a bloody price!
He’s Kayden Scott, the War God for Seclela, a legendary figure! Even after three years of absence, as long as he draws breath, he will forever be a legend of Seclela! In this land, no one can lay a finger on his soldiers! This ironclad rule was forged to deter foreign enemies from coming to harm his soldiers, yet Kayden never imagined it would be shattered by their countrymen today!
They fought valiantly to protect their homeland, only to suffer betrayal from their own countrymen! How could Kayden possibly contain this fury?
“Defender!” Suddenly, Fletcher, who was lying on the bed, called out to Kayden with his last vestiges of strength. He tightly grasped Kayden’s hand, tears of frustration welling in his eyes.
Kayden gazed down at Fletcher, who was at his last gasp. Remorse was written all over Fletcher’s face as he said, “I’ve brought shame upon Battlefield, upon the Zodiac Generals. Forgive me, Defender. I can no longer fight alongside you to defend our territory! Thank you for granting me a lifetime of glory. To have been by your side for so long and to face my end in front of you, I am already content.”
“My only regret… is that I have to die in such a pitiful manner. I simply cannot accept it! I cannot accept it!”
Fletcher’s greatest wish was to meet his end gloriously on the battlefield. For a warrior, such a death would be truly magnificent and a perfect ending to a life of valor. Yet now, here he was, lying on bed and pitifully waiting for death. It stirred a profound sense of injustice within him. It was this very refusal to accept fate that had allowed him to cling to life until now.
Kayden swiftly drew two needles from his pocket and expertly inserted them into Fletcher’s chest. Locking eyes with Fletcher, he assured, “Don’t be afraid! You’re not going to die.”
The steadfast resolve in Kayden’s gaze instantly brought Fletcher a sense of peace. He said nothing more, slowly allowing his eyes to drift shut.
Kayden felt a swell of admiration for Fletcher’s strong will. Fletcher’s internal organs were shattered, and his head had endured a crushing blow. Logically, he wouldn’t have been able to hold on for five minutes, even though he didn’t die immediately after the attack. Even with his indomitable spirit, half an hour would have been the utmost limit.
Yet, he had persevered for a full three hours until Kayden arrived, keeping his eyes open the entire time. Such unyielding determination was truly awe-inspiring!
Kayden stood up and breathed a heartfelt sigh. “This is what my Zodiac Generals are made of!”
At that moment, Greedy Wolf stepped forward, respectfully giving a salute and bowing, “Defender! His internal organs are shattered… Does he really stand a chance of survival?”
Kayden shot a glance back at Greedy Wolf, and with just that look, Greedy Wolf felt a quaver of panic! He lowered his head further, hastily explaining, “Forgive me, Defender. I didn’t mean to question your abilities. But a person whose internal organs are shattered… even if they survive, they’d be no different from a vegetable.”
Kayden let out a derisive snort. “Greedy Wolf, I thought you should understand me better than anyone else!”
The weight of those words left Greedy Wolf momentarily speechless. He swallowed hard, too afraid to utter another syllable. The room fell into an oppressive silence that felt almost suffocating!
After a tense pause, Kayden coldly stated, “His internal organs are shattered, but so what? I can restore them anyway!”
With that, he took several leisurely steps toward Greedy Wolf!
A flicker of shock crossed Greedy Wolf’s face, but he still dared not speak. He shouldn’t have doubted the Defender’s prowess, especially after witnessing too many of his extraordinary feats. He always made the impossible possible.
Indeed, while others might be helpless against shattered organs, Kayden had the power to heal them!
He was skilled in more than just combat. His medical expertise was peerless in the present era!
“By the way, do you find any connection between Flood’s death and the injuries from Firefist?” Kayden suddenly inquired.
Greedy Wolf furrowed his brow and replied, “Flood’s death was solely caused by a shock from internal force-there were no external injuries on his body, but his internal organs were all shattered. Firefist was also attacked by some kind of internal force, but there were wounds on his body, so it wasn’t the same assailant who attacked them.”
“So, it means Hellblazer is teeming with experts who are skilled in different martial arts!” Kayden narrowed his eyes and concluded.
Greedy Wolf remained silent, standing in contemplation to the side, but he tightened his brow, too.
“They dared to lay a hand on my men, I will ensure they pay for it with their lives!”
As his words hung in the air, the temperature in the room plummeted! Even Greedy Wolf, a battle-hardened warrior who had been fighting alongside Kayden for years, felt an icy shiver crawl up his spine!
Kayden pressed on, “I told you to investigate the phone number. How is the progress?”
“We’re still tracking down the owner of this number. Results should come in shortly!” answered Greedy Wolf.
A sudden ringtone interrupted their conversation. Kayden’s phone buzzed. It was a completely unfamiliar number, with no location or notes displayed on the screen.
After a brief pause, Kayden told Greedy Wolf, “No need to investigate further. He’s calling me!”
