“Care to explain what you plan to do with Harper?” Ophelia asked as they sat in the car. She had come in the car with her driver but had asked both their drivers to take the afternoon off and then take the car afterwards. They were going to spend the day together and then go home afterwards.
“I have no idea what to do.”
“So you are just going to let her be in your office?”
“Ophelia, I did not want any of this to happen. I mean, it is no secret that Harper is still not over me.”
“And that makes your heart tingle, doesn’t it?” Ophelia asked. As soon as the words left her mouth, she wondered to herself why she had thought of that and, more importantly, why she had said it out loud. The only thoughts that were now running rampant through her mind after the words left her mouth were what she would think of her saying that.
“I did not mean that,” she began, trying to clear the air and play it off.
“No, it does not make my heart tingle,” he said with a straight expression on his face.
“That is good and fine to know.” She was grateful that was his answer. She was not sure if she could have handled it if he said that he was affected by the petty little chase around by Harper. “Back to the topic at hand, are you going to just let her stay in the office?’
“There is nothing I can do about it. I know that Abihail planted her in my office to help her take me down, and my grandfather knows this as well, but if we strive to win the battle, we would as well end up losing at the war. Who knows what other evil plans they have rolled up their sleeves.”
“Quite many”
“You know their plans?” Cade actually felt excited to hear that his wife might have details about what the enemy was trying to do with him, and that way they could easily avoid every one of them.
“Of course not, but if they are anything like the books I read, then they must be thinking of all possible ways to take you down.”
“Thank you; that was very helpful,” Cade responded with sarcasm.
“Speak like that all you want, but according to my books, I know that someone is playing dirty to bring you down; you just have to find a way to play dirtier than them and still abide by the laws so you do not end up in jail for it and end up losing,” she said, and he shook his head.
“I just have to be many steps ahead of them.”
“So is Harper helping them out, or is she just being used by them?” Ophelia asked. She wanted to know how deep this love ran. Was it just pure obsession where she just wanted to be with him, not thinking that there was a possibility that he was not going to be happy at all?
“I can not tell but I will have to find out,” Cade said and she nodded.
“Okay, I guess that is good, but you must ensure that you and her don’t get into any sexual relations.”
“I have no intentions to cheat on you.”
“I know, but I must say it so it is on records,” Ophelia said, and he nodded as well.
“I must tell you also to be careful of Green,” he said, and a weird expression grew on her face. She could not believe that he was farming Green again. He knew that she was not going to take it very well, so he added, “I know you say he is harmless and just a friend, but I can swear that he likes you and wants to be with you.”
“Green is just a friend,” Ophelia said, emphasizing the words just and friend. He nodded because he did not want this to end up in a fight between them. Things were going fine, and they were good; having a fight now when they were clearly going into war was a foolish thing to do.
“Let us just get lunch and go to the station to meet Valerie.” Ophelia said and he began to drive out of the building.
“What do you think we can do?”
“About what?”
“About Harper,” Cade said, his hand clutching on the steering wheel. He could not understand why he was pissed at the situation. He knew that there was no way to get Harper out of his office but he wanted to do something about it badly.
“We just let her be? What else can we do about it?” Ophelia asked. She did not want to jump to conclusions and allow her to get spooked out that way they would not have evidence against them.
“If we let her be, then we don’t know what she can do. Harper is always so determined, and I cannot say what she can do in the end,” Cade said, worried as he took short glances at her.
“If you are so worried, I guess we can think of something.”
“I know something that might work,” Cade said, and she looked at him. His grip on the wheel was so strong that his veins popped.
“You are nervous? Why?” she asked, tilting her head and dropping her phone to her lap.
“Because of what I am about to say,” he said, swallowing a knot in his throat.
“Well, what are you about to say? Just say it,” she said, turning off the radio that had been making a sound in the background. She turned to him and gestured that he speak about it.
“I know I had been disagreeing with you about this all this time, but I think if you do it, then your grandfather would have no choice but to appoint me as the chairman, and then your father as well would appoint you as vice, and we both have a better advantage, and then strife for the position would get lower, and then they cannot.”
“You want us to have sex and create a baby?” She cut him from rambling. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a second before nodding.
“YES”
