MONICA’S POV
ONE WEEK LATER
Everything has been in perfect shape for one week now. Nicholas sometimes spends some days at home to help me with the kids. Mason has been crying a lot lately because of his tooth
The doctor said he was going to be having little pains because his tooth was growing out of his gum and he was new to the pain.
Macy still hasn’t started growing teeth but I’ve noticed that she prefers Nicholas to carry her instead of me.
Macy could be with me one second but the instant she sees Nicholas, she crawls to him giggling and crying loudly to get his attention.
I’m starting to get worried that my husband’s handsomeness is stealing my daughter’s attention and love.
The twins have been growing so much that they’ve added lots of weight. I’m starting to get worried that they will be as huge as Nicholas.
“Honey” Nicholas called out
“Huh,” I turned my gaze to his, his voice jolting me out of my thoughts.
“I was wondering if we could have an alone time later today. I want us to go out” Nicholas suggested and I couldn’t help the smile that appeared across my lips. “Would you like to go out with me?” He asked, standing in one position while he gently held Macy by her waist so he didn’t fall off.
“Of course, I would love to go out with you,” I said, my cheeks heating up as Nicholas’s loving gaze tugged at my heartstrings.
“Be ready by 8 pm” he said then started bouncing and jumping around with Macy again.
Dressed in a short silk backless long gown with diamond earrings, I threaded carefully down the stairs only to find Oscar and Austin waiting downstairs for me.
“Where is Nicholas?” I asked, my eyes searching the living room for him
“Mr Nicholas had instructed we drive you to the venue” Oscar replied and I was astonished by his words.
“Nicholas had already gone?” Austin nodded his head positively “Without me?” They kept quiet and didn’t say anything more.
I frowned deeply at Nicholas’s actions. We were supposed to go to the venue together. Why would he just leave me without telling me he was leaving? Is this his way of punishing me for stressing him last week?
Many thoughts ran through my head as I clenched my clutch in anger. I had makeup on and had carefully arranged my hair in a neat bun, embodied with diamond hairpins.
“Shall we get going, ma’am?” Oscar asked, jolting me out of my thoughts.
“Yes, we should” I responded, taking the last step on the stairs and walking to the door.
Soon we got to an empty restaurant and I frowned deeply when I stepped out of the car. Did Nicholas book the whole place? I asked myself and silence was the answer I got.
“You should go in ma’am” Austin suggested, walking in front of me as he opened the glass door for me to step inside the restaurant.
I walked into the restaurant and stood confused for about ten seconds. My eyes searched, moving in circles as I tried to catch a glimpse of Nicholas but I couldn’t see him and I knew he was there.
I dipped my hand in my clutch and searched for my phone, frowning deeply at the fact that Nicholas could maybe be playing a prank on me.
“Surprise!!!” I heard a loud unison shout that almost made me jump out of the restaurant in fear.
With my eyes widened, I looked around and my gaze landed on everyone I loved and knew. From Aunt Ella who was holding the twins to Fiona who held a balloon and Anthony who held a cake to my mother, who held a ridiculously toy trumpet in her hand.
“What’s all this?” I asked, shocked and excited at the same time.
“Happy birthday honey” I heard a voice behind me and I turned to see a red rose bouquet right in front of me.
Nicholas used the bouquet to hide his face and I smiled at his actions. “Happy birthday? Is it my birthday yet?” I asked, shocked by the whole setup I had no idea about.
He handed me the bouquet and I happily took it from him, sniffing it with my eyes closed. “Happy birthday dearest,” he said, stretching his hands forward and I rushed into his arms, enjoying his soothing and calm embrace.
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Monica,
Happy birthday to you
Anthony walked up to me as I broke the hug with Nicholas “Make a wish” he said and I closed my eyes with a smile on my face and made a wish.
I blew off the candles and everyone cheered while others whistled in excitement. I had great fulfilling joy in my heart. Nothing in the universe could compare to the happiness of having those you love around you.
“Let the party begin” Nicholas yelled, raising his hand in the air like a child and his actions had me cracking up.
Soon it was just Nicholas and me in the restaurant and I was beginning to feel drained. Drained from the games, dancing, and eating.
Everyone had already gone including my bodyguard. Aunt Ella volunteered to take the kids with her so it was just me and Nicholas that was going to be at home this night.
“I think we should go home now” Nicholas suggested and stretched his hand for me to take. I grabbed his hand and walked beside him sluggishly.
As soon as I stepped outside, the chilled air passed through my bare skin, making goosebumps appear on my arm and my bare back.
“Here,” Nicholas said, placing his suit jacket on my shoulder “Wait here, let me get the car” He walked away and I squatted on my knees, waiting patiently for me as I blew hot air into my palm.
“Shall we” I heard someone say above me, his hands stretched towards me.
“That was quick,” I said, rising to my feet and walking beside him as he opened his car door for me.
Nicholas closed the car door and as soon as he entered, he started the engine and we both hit the road.
“Thank you for the surprise honey. It was incredible” I said, placing my hands on his as he smiled warmly at me.
“You’re welcome” he responded as took his eyes off me, fixing it on the road.
The ride was calm and steady until Nicholas started driving fast, increasing the pressure on the car accelerator.
“What going on?” I asked, looking at the side mirror by my right to discover a car was running behind us at speed.
“It’s nothing Monica. Just be calm” Nicholas said and I frowned then looked at him again.
“Monica?” I said, confused at the reason why Nicholas would call me by my first name.
The car suddenly paused, making me jerk Forward with force as I slowly raised my head to see a black car parked in front of us.
Someone stepped out of the car and stood at the front of it. My gaze landed on the figure standing at the front of the car and I froze in my seat, my eyes wide open in shock.
“Nicholas” I whispered, staring at my husband who was standing right in front of me. How was it possible that there were two Nicholas?
I turned my head slowly to the person sitting beside me in the car and I saw Nicholas, staring daggers at the figure outside.
I frowned as I suddenly started to feel a sharp pain in my head. I hissed in pain as I closed my eyes tightly.
“Monica, are you okay?” I felt Nicholas’s gentle hand on my arms, his voice laced with concern but I just ignored him.
I raised my gaze to the figure standing outside again and I saw Nicholas. I moved my gaze to the figure sitting beside me and I gasped when I saw Ethan.
“Are you okay?” Ethan asked worriedly.
I hastily shifted my gaze back to Nicholas again who wore a worried expression and instantly came to my side, forcefully trying to open the car door.
Taking one last look at the figure sitting beside me and realizing it was Ethan, I finally realized that my illness was getting worse by the day. My brain had just played a fast one on me.
