Nova’s pov
“Your Highness, please we would need your signature on these.” elder Bighana gathered the files and dropped them on the table for me to take them.
I knitted my brows before leaning forward to take the files from the table. I took out the first one and scanned through the sheets.
“Once you put in your signature, everything is done.” the elder spoke up, I sighed before grabbing a ball pen from the table.
“Okay,” I moved my gaze to the lower part of the files and put in my signature without reading the whole content.
I know it was about their sudden retirement and I was too lazy to go through the whole contents.
“It is done!” I closed the lid of the pen and dropped it on the table, the elders all stood up and bowed before me.
“We accept your royal decree, Your Highness!” the elders intoned, their voices resounding throughout the room. “Long live the Queen!” they cried, their voices growing louder and louder.
I smiled, touched by their loyalty and devotion. It was a humbling experience, to be the recipient of such acclaim. Knowing that I had done my part to secure the lives of my people made me feel even better.
“Thank you, wise elders!” I bowed slightly, hoping they wouldn’t resent me for supporting the King in their dismissal.
The elders walked out of the royal Beta’s office. I had my eye glued to their backs until they were completely out of sight.
“So, you can leave, I will inform his Majesty about this, you don’t need to get involved anymore.” the royal Beta whose name was still unknown to me, walked up to me with a smug smirk dancing at the corner of his lips.
“What do you mean I should not get involved?” I smirked, packing the files on my lap. “You don’t know the reason why I agree to do this, so don’t tell me that bullshit.” I stood up from the couch, raising the files in the air.
“His Majesty has ordered me to keep you away from this matter once the elders have signed the files,” he groaned, his voice was stern and authoritative. “And I intend to follow his orders to the letter,” he added, leaving no room for argument.
I shook my head, not wanting to get duped into giving the royal Beta the only evidence that I had, which would make his Majesty involved in the matter of my Pack.
I did this for the sake of my people and what will happen if his Majesty decided not to help me since I no longer have the files with me?
“I refuse to give up these files!” I stated, my voice firm and resolute.
“Your Highness?” he groaned, stretching out his palm, “can I have to take a look at the files at least?”
“Nope!” I shook my head, staring at him as he had suddenly grown an extra head. “I am going to meet his Majesty and I am taking these,” I waved the files in front of his eyes. “I am taking these with me.”
“Your Highness?” he groaned out, running his hand through his hair in frustration.
“I need a car prepared for me,” I stated, my voice firm and authoritative. “I’m going to meet with His Majesty,” I continued, making it clear that my request was not up for debate.
There was no room for discussion or negotiation – I expected my wishes to be followed without question.
“Okay, your highness,” he grumbled in submission before walking away from me.
With a satisfied smile, I tucked the files under my arm and strode out of the office of the royal Beta. I felt a weight lift off my shoulders as I left the room, ready to take a bold step to go get ready to meet his Majesty.
The walk back to my chambers felt like it took no time at all, as I was too focused on the tasks ahead of me.
I stumbled to my room, my heart pounding in my chest. I fumbled with the door handle, my hands shaking with nervous anticipation. As the door swung open, I let out a breath I didn’t know I’d been holding. There on the floor, nestled against the side of my bed, was Shayna, taking off her band-aid.
“Princess…” Shayna sprang up from the floor, staring at me with her eyes on the files in between my arms.
“You’re coming with me, I need to get to the pack.” I rushed my words, dropping the files on the bed, before heading towards the bathroom to have a quick bath.
“Pack? You mean to tell me that we are leaving the royal villa?” Shayna yelled after me as I closed the door behind me.
After I was done bathing, I wrapped a towel around my chest and headed back to my room. Shayna was standing in front of my closet when I got to my room, she was shoving her head in the closet, rummaging to look for what I was going to wear.
“So, I am still a little bit surprised to hear that you are going to the Pack.” she took out a long blue dress, walked over to the bed and laid down the dress.
“Which pack are you going to, and why are you going there?” she asked, running her eyes on the files that I dropped on the bed.
“Our Pack! I need to meet his Majesty at our pack.” I blurted out, settling down on the seat at the dresser.
“His Majesty!” Shayna gasped, running up to me. “What is the Lycan King doing at the pack? Is anything going on at the pack?” she asked worriedly, I could hear her heartbeat, beating hard against her chest.
“It’s nothing you should worry about.” I smiled, turning my back on her to get dressed for the journey home.
“I have to help you get dressed.” Shayna tried to grab the hairbrush but I held her hand, gently shoving her hands off.
“You go get dressed, I don’t have much time,” I said, Shayna nodded before walking over to my closet to grab a towel.
Minutes later,
Walking out of my room with Shayna trailing behind me, she offered to help me carry the files but I insisted on carrying them myself.
We got to the outside of the building to see two black cars parked with guards lined up beside them.
“What is going on, Princess?” Shayna mumbled behind me and I shook my head in response.
“I don’t know either,” I replied, taking a long stride to where the car was parked.
“Your Highness,” they all bowed and I nodded my head to their greetings, I was too stunned to say a word.
“We will be escorting Your Highness to where you’re heading.” one of the guards spoke up in his silvery voice.
“All of you?” I asked, unable to believe that over twenty guards would leave the villa just to escort me to the pack.
“Yes, all of us!” he affirmed and I shook my head unbelievably.
“Sorry, I don’t need any guard. I am okay, I can find my way.” I chuckled lightly, why would I have all these guards escort me when I’m not a minor?
“It was a royal decree! We would be punished gravely if we go against the royal order.” another guard murmured, his eyes flapped shut.
“Whose order are you following?” I asked I was really curious to know who would give such a rule. His Majesty was not in the royal villa and he definitely wasn’t aware of me leaving the villa.
“I gave them the order.” the royal Beta’s fruity voice echoed, walking towards us with his hands in his pocket.
I arched my brows, standing there with my hands crossed over my chest.
“Why?” I glared at him, getting mad at the silly smirk on his face.
“It was what his Majesty asked me to do!” he blurted and I felt my heart skipped a beat.
