Prescott’s pov
Ever since Nova began to live in the same building as me, I had been staying behind in my office, which resulted in having to go through extra paper works since I could not just leave them.
Lately, there have been a lot of cases circulating in the nation. The news of Eruba, a faceless rogue’s leader whose identity was unknown had been reaching out to some packs.
I didn’t want anyone to know about him before I catch him and give him the punishment he deserved. But unfortunately, there had been four packs who had learnt about him and his secret signature has been known by the Alphas of these four packs.
There was a case that came in from the West pack, a rogue was spotted in the wall of the Blue Moon pack, a pack that Alpha Randale, Nova’s father governed.
I silently prayed to the moon goddess that the rogue should be one of Eruba’s boys. I had been chasing him for years and I hope to catch him soon before everyone learns of him.
“Elder Bighana is here to see you, your Majesty!” the guard at the front door howled, I shoved the file inside my drawer while waiting for the elder to walk inside.
“Greetings, your Majesty!” elder Bighana greeted with a slight bow.
“Why are you here, my wise elder?” I relaxed into the office seat, my arms crossed around my chest anticipating what the elder has to say.
It wasn’t Elder Bighana’s thing to visit me at the office, it’s something he does whenever he has important matters to discuss with me.
“I came to tell you about the last rule. You didn’t read the last rule before storming out of the courtroom the other day.” the aged man let out, his face glued to the floor.
“Please, have a seat.” I gestured towards the set of couches in my office, it was made to distinguish guests and elders are one of those the seats were made for.
“Thank you, my King!” he blurted out, walking over to the settee.
I stared at the case files one more time, before standing up from the chair. I adjusted my belt and rolled my sleeves to my arms before walking over to the seated elder.
“So, what is the last rule all about?” I took a seat across the elder, I sat with my legs crossed.
“Um,” the elder cleared his throat before taking out the same file from his robe.
I rested on the seat and propped my hands on each arm of the one-seater couch.
“Here is the file.” elder Bighana moved forward from his seat, he stretched forth the file to me, and I waved my hand in dismissal.
“Since you already knew what was written inside the file, tell me with your mouth what the last rule was all about and how you think I should know about it.” I sighed, undoing the first three buttons of my shirt.
The elder moved back into his seat, he dropped the file on the table, his eyes were on me and I was beginning to get curious about what the last rule was about.
“Thinking about it, you’re no longer that ‘little King’ that needs the help of the elders.” he paused, trying to read the expression on my face.
“I’m glad you know,” I groaned out, glaring at the file on the table.
“I had a meeting with the others and we’ve come to a conclusion.” elder Bighana grabbed the file on the table, flipped through the pages and stopped in the middle.
I watched him read the content with keen interest, he seemed to be doubting whatever the thing he was teasing.
He moved his gaze from the file and stared at me with a sly smile on his face. “We the elders have concluded that we should let you go with the last rule.” he waved the file in the air.
“What is the last rule about and why do you think it would be any difference from the rest?” I knitted my brows, waiting patiently for him to spill whatever shit he was here to spill, so I could drive him out of my office for intruding on my peace.
“Your Majesty, we are willing to step down from our various positions and posts if Her Highness agree for you to rule alone!” said the oldest among the elders, bowing his head in defence.
My jaw dropped and my eyes popped open. Looking at the elder with a stern expression, my eyes piercing into his face.
I was shocked to hear him said such. I grabbed the file on the table and flipped to the middle of the pages, checking the rule for myself since I could not find myself believing what the elder just said.
“If the King happened to be desperate to rule without the help or support of the elders, he should consult his Queen. For the Queen is going to be his only companion in ruling the nation, she must be ready to accept the difficult task that follows.” I read out the last rule with my heart thumping against my chest, I held the file in my hands as my life depended on it.
“You would all be willing to give up your posts, just like that?” I asked with my eyes widened in shock, a note of scepticism in my voice.
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Elder Bighana replied with a huge smile plastered on his face.
I sprang up from my seat on hearing that. I gripped the file in my hand and waved it in the air.
“I am going to fetch my Queen, now! And I am taking this wonderful file with me, for I do not know what will happen to it while I am away.” I beamed, flashing out my white set of teeth.
Something I had never done since I became the King of the nation.
“Get the rest of the elders here, we shall settle everything here, in my office.” I waved at Elder Bighana before storming out of my office, leaving the old man there to find a way to bring others to my office.
I marched towards the building I shared with my beautiful Queen and a smile appeared on my face. Had I known she would later be of help to me, I wouldn’t have been that harsh on her, right?
I tucked my hands inside my jeans pocket, walking up to her room. The guards were still by the door, making sure she didn’t get out of her room.
Come to think of it, it was a good thing that I had her remain in her room, knows she might have gone to places and it would be hard to find her since she was a werewolf and I could not mind linking with her.
“Greetings, your Majesty!” the two guards greeted in unison. I grinned, giving them my best smile for keeping the Queen in her room.
“You two can leave! It is time I take my Queen out of this lonesome!” I am that shameless to act all friendly when I was close to having my dream come true.
“I am afraid to tell you, but Her Highness is not in her room, your Majesty!” one of the guards mumbled with his face glued to the marble floor, he fiddled with his shirt and It was as if I was bathed with a bowl of chill water.
“What did you just say?” I howled, making towards them with my eyes burning with fury.
The guards dropped to their knees with their palms fiddling with their knees.
“Lady Everest was here, the Queen left with her and we couldn’t do anything to stop them.” they trembled, and balls of sweat were seen rolling down their faces.
“Everest? That little double-crossing bitch?!” I barked, banging my fist on the wall above their heads, sending fear into their hearts.
“Where do they go?” I grabbed one by the collar of his shirt, pulling him up to his feet.
“I heard the Queen headed to the infirmary to see her maid.” the guard’s lips trembled as he speaks.
“I want the two of you to remain here until I return, okay?” I stormed out of the building with weird thoughts running through my mind.
How dared she go against my order? How dared she schemed her escape from her room with that low-life Everest? How dared she tried to escape from fulfilling her role?
I clenched my teeth as I appeared in front of the infirmary. I had vowed to not step foot in the infirmary after what happened years ago, but a certain werewolf made me go against my pledge.
“Your Majesty!” the royal doctors gasped on seeing me, they bowed and said their greetings as I walked past them.
“Where is the Queen?” I barked, a Doctor stepped forward with his hands clamped to his back.
“At the private room! I shall take you to her,” he muttered, stepping to my front with his hands pointing towards a hallway.
“This way, your Majesty!” he strolled in front of me, while I trailed quietly behind him, with my gaze hardened in anger.
The Doctor stopped in front of a door, he paused and placed a light knock on the door.
“She is inside.” the man rubbed his sweaty palms together.
“You may leave!” I groaned when I sensed a footstep approaching the door from the inside.
The Doctor scurried off as if he had been wanting to be away from me.
“Lady Everest, is it about time to leave?” The door flung open to reveal the Queen with her eyes widened in shock.
Shock to see me huh?
“Your Majesty!” Her jaw dropped and I felt the corner of my lips curved into a smirk.
“Come with me!” I turned away from her, walking out of the hallway to get out of the infirmary as soon as possible.
I need to get over with the elders, then I will know what to do with her.
Heaven knows I hated disobedient kids!
