Nova’s pov
The guard brought me to a dark hallway that seemed like no one was there. I quietly trailed behind him, looking everywhere with my heart beating rapidly.
We stopped in front of a huge double door and the guard stopped on his track. I glanced at the lone hallway and I wondered what we were doing in such a place.
“We are here. Please head inside.” the guard told me to go in. I arched my brows and he flashed me a toothy smile.
“This is the Lycan King’s chamber. He asked me to bring you here, remember that? Please go in and wait for him.” he stretched his hand and opened the door for me.
“Oh,” I sighed, “are you sure I can go in?” I asked him, the chilling aura of the place gave me a reason to doubt the guard.
‘Was he here to kill me? Did that beast order him to kill me here? Why is no one in here, those were the questions that I kept asking myself.
“Please go in,” he repeated when he realised that I wasn’t making any attempt to head inside.
“Why?” I grabbed the doorknob from him and shut the door.
He stared at me in shock, his burning pure silver eyes staring down at me. “What?” his voice was hoarse, compare to the gentle tone he was using to converse with me, a while ago.
“Why don’t you want to go in?” he asked, this time in a cool tone.
I bit my lower lip and stared at the marble floor which suddenly caught my attention. “Because no one is here, I don’t know when he’ll be back, and I don’t want to be in a dreary place, along with a like of him.” I blurted out truthfully.
“What are you scared of?” he knitted his eyebrows, staring right into my face.
“Him,” I pursed my lips, I didn’t know who he was and speaking ill of the King, to the Royal guard was not a nice thing to do. So, instead, I said, “I just don’t want to be alone with him.”
“Oh,” he sighed and opened the door while staring at my bottle green eyes, “Just be yourself, and don’t do anything to enrage him when he comes back.” he beamed before walking away from me.
I pushed the door slightly and sneaked into the dark room. My hands found the switch and I turned the light on. My mouth parted open when my gaze caught sight of the glossy grey wall that shone brightly, competing with the white bulb light.
The blackout curtains laid flatly on the great wall, which made the room look more alive.
I gazed around the richly furnished audience chamber and I love how the furniture was well-organised.
“I never knew black could be this cool.” tears shimmered in my eyes as I got hypnotized by the beauty of the room.
My gaze moved to the black bedding. I moved my gaze from the bed and my eyes landed on the nightstand table. My lips curved in a smile when I saw some burning candles that I never thought were in the room.
“Hold on,” I beamed, strode towards the exit and switched off the light. The candle’s light flickered through the room and I gasped in utmost surprise.
“Oh, my goddess! It looks better with the light off.” I nodded my head in excitement, then walked away from the door.
A tiny object glinted on the nightstand table and I dragged my feet towards the bed. I knelt beside the bed, stretched my hand and picked up a tiny necklace with a moon-shaped pendant.
I ran my thumb on the shiny beautiful stone and wore it around my neck before I could realise what I was doing.
The door abruptly flung open, followed by a hand switching on the light. I stood up and turned around only to meet with a pair of cloudy grey eyes, glaring hard at me.
My knees wobbled, I staggered backwards and fell to the floor. Was I too occupied with the survey that I didn’t smell his eerie scents?
The Lycan King stared at me, his eyes burnt in rage when his gaze landed on my neck.
What was his deal with my neck?
My breath seized when he began to take those dangerous steps towards me. I sprang to my feet before he could get to me.
He stopped right in front of me, his gaze was on mine, I gulped down nothing and grabbed the table for support.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he demanded, his hand found its way to my neck, his hand clutched onto an object on my neck and I gasped when realisation dawned on me.
How did I forget about the necklace? I whimpered quietly.
“Where did you find this?” he grabbed the necklace and tore it off my neck.
“Ahh!” I let out a hushed cry when he forcefully yanked the necklace off my neck. For a moment, I had forgotten about the bruises on my neck.
I wrapped my palm around my neck and I saw blood staining my palms. How can I forget that the beast left some of his signatures on my neck?
“I asked you a darn question, didn’t I?” he hollered, I jumped back in fright.
“You asked him… The guard! You asked the guard to bring me here.” I stuttered, I was getting scared by the look he was giving me.
I clamped my mouth shut as I watched him mumbled out a curse. He tossed the necklace on the bedding and ruffled his hair.
“Get out! Don’t let me ever see you here, again,” he muttered and I hastily nodded to his warning.
I never wanted to be in his room either, he was the one who asked me to head there, why the hell was he angry about me being in his room?
I gripped the tip of my dress and dragged my feet towards the door. I stretched out my hand to open the door when his words stopped me.
“Never forget who you are, you are just a mere werewolf and marrying me doesn’t change the fact that you’re a werewolf, and your kind is useless.” he poured out those hurtful words to me, and my grip on the doorknob loosened and I quiver in grief.
“I brought you here as a punishment for your father. I married you because you’re just a tool that I need to free myself from the elders, don’t think you’re special in any way. You may be the nation’s Queen, but you’re nothing but a tool to me.”
His words came as a sword and it stabbed me in my tums. I squeezed my eyes shut, letting the tears that welled up in my eyes stream down with no intention to wipe them.
I never said I was looking for his attention. I never said I want to mean anything to him. I never even wish for him to like me, because I wasn’t planning on liking him either.
Why did he have to say those hurtful words to me? Why?
I grabbed the doorknob and twisted the door open.
“Don’t overplay your role. You’re the nation’s Queen, not my wife. I need no wife to tie me down.”
I fell on my knees once outside his room, I gripped my chest and puffed out air.
“Yes, I’m useless, aren’t I?” I batted my lashes, blinking away the tears that shimmered in my eyes.
