Chapter 63
Gradel
“I’m very sure that my intentions are obvious,” She got off her stool and drew closer to me. “I want you back Gradel. Can’t you see? We used to be so good together-”
I didn’t allow her to finish. “Agreed, until you decided to disrespect me by sleeping with another man in my house. You could have taken your promiscuity to your apartment or even a hotel, but your teany-weany brain decided that it wasn’t the best. Do you think I can just accept you into my life like that?” I spat, trying hard to keep my emotions under control.
I didn’t want her to think that she still had some effect on me.
She fiddled with her well-manicured nails, her fake lash extensions lowered. “That happened a long time ago and trust me, I was being stupid. I don’t know what got into my head,”
“That’s fine, but don’t you think I’d be married right now? Besides you wouldn’t be saying all of these if I didn’t come to this club,” My tone was derisive.
Her eyes widened in disappointment and she almost fell on her knees. “You can’t be married, Gradel. You swore that you would never give your heart to another woman and I know that you’re a man of your word.”
I scoffed at her public show of stupidity.
“And you think I’ve not met another woman who was capable of making me change my mind?” I asked her.
She raked through her hair, biting her lower lip with the pain of rejection emanating from her face. When she broke my heart into pieces, I didn’t have the time to plot a retaliation, but seeing how broken she was I knew that I’d done a good job in keeping her in her place.
I’d have told her that I had a mate to buttress my point and make her feel more terrible than she already was, but I couldn’t allow the humans to suspect our existence. It would only put us in danger.
“You are right. I’m really stupid for expecting you to come back to me.” Her voice held defeat. “I should leave now,” She picked up her bag from the countertop.
I had nothing to say to her so I watched her disappear through the throng of bodies who were having the best time of their lives, dancing wildly like nothing else mattered.

Iris’s POV
I’d told myself that I wouldn’t shed anymore tears over him but my stupid brain didn’t want to register that fact and here I was, seated on the bed with a duvet over my body and hot tears cascading down my cheeks as if I’d lost a loved one.
His harsh words from the note kept ringing in my head, yet I found it hard to believe that he could say such a thing to me. That after everything we’ve shared, he could treat me like an outcast.
Well, I respected his decision by leaving the pack house last night. The servants were surprised and the guard at the gate nearly didn’t let me pass through, but when I threatened to rain fire and brimstone if he tried to stop me, he was left with no choice.
I snatched my phone from the bed, pressured to give him a piece of my mind but I paused and dropped the phone.
If he loved me, he’d fight for me.
A few hours later, I took a stroll to the kitchen and realized that it was empty. No single food item in it, just some kitchen utensils on the countertop. Even if I wanted to continue mourning my loss, it wouldn’t be on an empty stomach.
Hazel should have been here with me but I’m sure that she’d be enjoying the best time of her life with her mate, and from there, they’d live together.
Once again, I was reminded that I was meant to live a life of loneliness.
No wolf, no mate, no family-I couldn’t count my sister as one and to top it all, I had no friend as Hazel would be occupied with her wifely duties and would barely have any time for me.
It was just me against this cruel world. I sighed.
I picked up a dull pink dress and combed my disheveled hair, packing it into a messy bun. The last thing I cared about presently was my appearance.
Feeling satisfied with my look, I stepped out of the house and headed for the market.
Being in the market granted me some sort of distraction from my predicament. I got to chat with some of the traders, haggle prices and get an item for a lower price.
Some of them even went as far as adding extra items like fish, rice and different spices just to appreciate me for coming over to their stall.
However, the blissful distraction was short-lived as a manly scream echoed from the other side of the market. Immediately I asked the trader to keep the balance of my money while I traipsed towards the spot where I’d heard the noise.
My heart clenched at the sight of a young man, probably in his early thirties beaten up for what I didn’t know. I couldn’t stand still, knowing that I’d been in a similar situation before.
I barreled through the crowd of onlookers who enjoyed the sight, some of them murmuring that I was disturbing the show. I ignored their words as my focus was on getting the young man away from trouble.
Knowing what he did and saving him was my only duty.
“Stop!” I thundered, wondering where I got such boldness from.
The beatings ceased instantly and they stared at me with disappointment, their sticks raised and ready to strike again if I didn’t make intentions known.
“Why are you beating him up? What did he do?” My voice was hard with anger.
One of them, probably the leader of the mob came forward. “My Lady,” He bowed. “He was caught stealing from a trader after pretending to buy a piece of bread, and you know that we don’t harbor thieves in our pack so we had to do the needful.”
I clicked my tongue and glared at him with disdain.
“And you believe that taking laws into your hands is the best way to eradicate crime? Are you all innocent that you think that you can judge another man for his sin, just because you caught him?” I blasted them and happiness coursed through me when I saw the guilt and resignation on their faces.
“We are sorry, My Lady, but this is how it has been done and it’s worse because we aren’t sure that he’s from our pack.” The man replied.
“That is none of my business. Get him cleaned and take him to the courtroom. He will be judged there.” I commanded.
