Chapter 46
Gradel
She snatched her hand away from mine as the surprise that was earlier on her face disappeared. She scowled at me, retreating into the darkness while I followed.
“What do you think you are doing?” She fumed.
I scoffed in disbelief, plunging my teeth into my lower lip to keep myself from punching the man who had dared to touch her.
In fact, I was going to find him and hit him. Her eyes were squinted in confusion as I veered past her and dragged the man up, throwing an aggressive punch to his jaw.
I rode through the waves of satisfaction when I heard a crack and then he began to plead.
“I’m so sorry, Prince Gradel. I didn’t know she was yours,” He begged, falling onto his knees.
His pleas further infuriated me and I glanced at Iris who glared at me disapprovingly. Her short dress rode to her upper thighs and her massive curves which had always been hidden by the flowy dresses were visible.
My length began to harden as my eyes stopped at her chest which rose and fell in quick succession. If I read her expression correctly, she was angry. Very angry and it was directed at me, but it wasn’t because I invaded her clubbing session.
It was something else that I had no clue about.
And then I noticed that her hair color was different. Without giving it much attention, I knew it was a wig but why did she try so hard to change her identity when it wasn’t important?
“Please, forgive me. You won’t set eyes on me ever again if you let me go,” He continued begging and I dropped him onto the floor like a sack of potatoes.
I traipsed back to Iris who was no longer alone. Hazel stood beside her, shivering with fear as I advanced towards them.
“Did you bring her here?” I growled angrily, my voice suddenly louder before.
She nodded fearfully, inclining her head. “I’m… I’m sorry for making such a mistake, Prince Gradel. She has been sad lately and I thought to cheer her up. If I’d known that things would escalate to this point, I swear, I wouldn’t have encouraged her to accompany me to this place.” Her voice was shaky and terrified.
‘She has been sad,’ I registered and guilt rose within me.
“You can leave. I’ll deal with you later,” I dismissed her.
She peered at me, her eyes laced with tears. “I’m very sorry,” She bowed again, patted Iris on the shoulder and left.
Iris wanted to follow her but I was quick to stop her and then she fixed me the most menacing look ever. “I asked you before and I’ll ask you again. What are you doing here?” She gritted.
“To save you from wolves who appear in sheep’s clothing,” I replied sarcastically.
She let out a throaty, mocking laughter and folded her hands. “If that’s the truth, then I need to be saved from you as well. How nice of you to storm into the club, and spoil my fun after messing around throughout the day, just to save me from people like yourself?” She vented.
Now I confirmed that something had happened and if she kept going about it this way, I’d never find out why she was this mad at me.
“Iris, I know that you’re offended by my presence here but I couldn’t sit back and watch…” I said in my defense.
“How did you even know that I was here, huh? Are you stalking me? I thought we were done?” She muttered the last question under her breath because our argument was already beginning to draw attention to ourselves.
I scooped her into my arms without warning and stalked out of the club. Her angry blows didn’t deter me from taking us to a calm place.
Finally, we got to the backyard where a few customers were making out intensely. They were in another world and I doubted that they’d spare us any attention.
“I wasn’t stalking you, Iris. The events of today have been so depressing that I had to seek a reprieve, and then I decided to patronize the famous Young Club that I’ve been hearing about. I stayed in the secluded area of the club and allowed the noise to distract me until I perceived your scent and traced it to someone who looked like you. We all have unique scents and I knew that it had to be you, so I traced the direction of what I’d perceived and confirmed that it was you.” I explained.
Her shoulders slumped in exhaustion and she took off the wig and the distinct red hair that I loved to see came into view.
“Then I’d like to go home. You’ve spoilt my day and my evening, I don’t think I can allow you to do more than that,” She turned around.
“Wait, Iris. I know something is wrong and you don’t want to tell me, but we are friends and I don’t like the state of our relationship. Did I hurt you in any way?” I asked calmly.
A sardonic smile was plastered on her face when she spared me a glance. “No, you didn’t hurt me. Not at all. I was the one who made stupid assumptions and now it’s messing with my head.”
“Iris,” I called softly.
She shook her head and sniffed, making me realize that she was trying to hold back her tears.
“Don’t make this harder than it is already. I’ll be moving to my apartment tomorrow with Hazel and I’ll come back on the eve of the Alpha’s birthday party. And I won’t be sleeping in your room tonight after what you did, I don’t want to be plagued with nightmares while I do the only thing that helps my sanity,” She spat bitterly.
I raked through my already disheveled hair in frustration. “Stop speaking in parables and tell me what I did, Iris!” I thundered.
She flinched in surprise and collected herself. “Of course, you know what you did. I won’t be the one to tell you,” She spat back.
Without thinking, I closed the distance between us and did the only thing that saturated my mind the moment I set eyes on her inside the club.
I locked my lips on her and wrapped my arms around her waist, preventing her from moving away.
Angrily she tore her lips away from mine and her palm landed on my cheek.
“Don’t you dare kiss me with the same lips you offered that strange woman. It’s insulting enough that you had another woman to the bed where we share, but what I won’t tolerate is disrespecting me like this.” She barked as tears ran down her cheeks.
My eyes widened as I let out a gasp. “Alright, I’m lost now. A woman? What woman?”
She hissed loudly. “You don’t need to deny it. I saw you making love to another woman after I returned from the market. You were groaning in pleasure with her under you. Both of you were having the best time of your life while I was made to watch.”
