Matteo’s POV
I left Aurora’s ward a happy man with deep smiles on my face. The nurses kept glancing at me in surprise as they had never seen me in such a happy mood before. Knowing how tough she could be, I didn’t expect her to ask me for that kind of kiss. My life which was shattered felt like it had been arranged by the kiss with a speed of light.
But when I saw Angelo standing at the bonnet of my car, my anger returned. I wasn’t sure that I could forgive him yet for trying to kill the only woman that gave my life a meaning.
“What are you doing here? I thought I said that I didn’t want to have anything to do with you.” I snarled.
The only reason why I didn’t kill him was because he was my brother and the only family I used to have, but I had a daughter and Aurora who I’d soon make my wife.
“I’ve apologised a thousand times, brother, what else do you want me to do?” He flung his hands in frustration which touched me as I’d never seen him like that for a long time.
My mind flashed back to the time he was held captive in Chicago. He was badly tortured and Erizo took joy in carving him out like a piece of meat. The only reason why he didn’t break was because he was used to such tortures, but then, it was different from what he was used to.
“I love you very much, Angelo, but don’t take it for granted. I love Aurora and my daughter and I can move territories for them. If you ever lay your hands on her or even think of causing her harm, I will forget who you are to me and make you wish for death.” I stated firmly.
Respect which was void of fear flickered in his eyes. “I understand, Capo.” He replied and we embraced briefly. “Where are you headed?”
“Get into the car and we’ll talk about on our way.” I said and walked to the driver’s seat then ignited the engine.
I did a reverse then drove out, shifting the gears so that I’d drive fast. “I need to check out the footage from Father Fagan park.”
“Right. After what happened, you need to know who tried to kill your woman.” He finished up for me while I nodded in agreement.
“Ginevra might be alive.” I spurted out.
“Holy shit! How’s that even possible, I thought you killed her already?” He asked in surprise.
“Maybe I did, but the footage will show us what we need to know.” I stated calmly.
He made a chuckling sound as I left the street of the hospital and headed for the park. It wasn’t really a long distance from the hospital as Giselle had admitted her there the moment she was shot.
“I know you very well, Matteo, and I know that you don’t make incredulous assumptions. How did you know?”
“Through Giselle. She said that she caught a glimpse of a woman who had an uncanny resemblance with Ginevra. It was surprising at first then I recalled how I shot her and knowing how strong willed Ginevra is, she might survive the bullet wounds.” I concluded as Angelo let out a tired sigh.
“We should never let anyone like her into our lives again. She has caused more harm than good and to think that she killed our mother.” Angelo grimaced while a deadly grin appeared on my face.
Ginevra might have been my lover, but she was an enemy who has crossed her boundaries. I just hoped that she was no longer in the city or I’d find her and rip her heart off.
We got to the park and I floored the gas. Angelo and I immediately exited the car as we made our way to the control room of the park.
We made our way into the one storey building which stood at the front of the park, while I ignored the stares from women who ogled at us. Some of them were almost nude with lots of makeup and wigs that didn’t match their skin colour.
I snubbed them for two reasons; they weren’t my type and Aurora had charmed me with her beauty and her kind soul, so no one else could come close.
Francesco sent me the details of the control room. I didn’t really need the information since locating it wasn’t a herculean task.
We finally located the room which was at the last room on the first floor. Our footsteps rang out, as the hallway was quiet save for the continuous clicks we heard from some offices.
I knocked, digging my hands into my pocket casually. The door knob twisted and when the door opened, a young man scanned from hair to toe with a disapproving look in his eyes. If he wasn’t careful, his ignorance would kill him.
“Who are you?” He said and burst a bubble that formed from the gum he was chewing.
I flashed him my Capo smirk then unbuttoned my shirt till my chest became visible. He arched his brow initially in confusion then scrutinised my chest and gasped when he saw the tattoo on the right side of my chest.
“Can we go in now?” I asked, my voice still like the undisturbed surface of a sea.
He nodded incessantly. “Sure, you can go in. I didn’t know who you were.”
Angelo chuckled and squeezed his shoulders as we went in. “And you are so lucky that you didn’t ask more annoying questions than you were supposed to ask.”
The young man was shaken to his wits which I liked. Having him do as I said wouldn’t be an issue as he knew better than going against me.
“What do you need, sir?” He asked, inclining his head like I was some sort of deity he had to bow to.
“I need the footage of what happened at the pool from three days ago around the hours of 2pm.” I ordered and he nodded, returning to his seat and immediately began to search through the dates.
He found what we were looking for so I pulled a chair closer and sat while I fixed my gaze on the wide screen that showed the events. Aurora and Giselle were by the pool, some seconds later Aurora left. I saw Ricardo standing by the other part of the park, a tree hiding his bulky frame as he kept his eyes around the area.
My attention was drawn to Aurora urging Giselle to do something-probably to leave the pool then the next thing I saw was Aurora falling to the ground with her hands on her stomach.
Rage burned in me afresh as I relived the events of what had happened.
“Stop!” I ordered and he did. “Are there cameras fixed at other strategic positions?” I asked.
“Yes.” He replied.
I began to think of any vintage position the shooter would have taken to shoot Aurora without being noticed. “Show me the footage from the trees if there’s any.”
“Alright.” He agreed and began to search through the videos again. “Here it is,” He clicked on it and I watched attentively.
Nothing was seen at first as everywhere was quiet then I saw a sharp movement and a man on black aiming at a spot opposite him and after firing, he ran straight ahead. Another footage followed which showed a car and a woman who had a familiar hair color with Ginevra’s.
“Can you pause the video and zoom on those people?”
“Sure.” He replied and I saw the face clearly.
The sneaky smile and crooked face all pointed that she was the one. Apparently, Ginevra was very much alive.
