Aurora’s POV
The morning was bright and bubbly as Sofia’s wedding had finally come. I was so excited for her; my aunt, Danilo’s mother and myself stayed in her room while her make-up artist did what she knew how to do best on her face.
We were all dressed save for the bride who had to look perfect. I’d never seen a more happy bride and sometimes I wondered if she had forgotten that she was getting married to a member of the Outfit.
Giselle’s fear was put aside as Danilo proved to her daily that she loved her.
My stomach rumbled with bile rising up my throat slowly. So far, my stomach wasn’t showing yet I chose a short flare dress with lace long sleeves. It had a sweetheart neckline which I preferred.
I tried to ignore the nauseous feeling that gnawed in my stomach but it wasn’t working. “Excuse me, please. I’ll be right back.” I rushed out of the room without waiting for a response and headed to the bathroom where I retched violently.
My eyes turned dizzy and I held onto the sink, hoping that I’d not fall sick on Sofia’s wedding day. The door to Sofia’s bathroom opened and I quickly rinsed my mouth then washed my hands.
“You never planned to tell me about it?” Giselle said, folding her hands as I watched her disappointed reaction from the mirror.
I lowered my lashes and closed my eyes, “Don’t take it that way, auntie. Matteo and I thought that it would be better to keep the pregnancy a secret until my belly begins to show, seeing that we are surrounded by enemies that we don’t even know about.” I explained.
She sighed then shrugged. “It’s fine, Aurora. You don’t have to explain too much. And you should know that I’m for you and not against you,”
“I know,” I agreed and held her hands. “Let’s forget about my pregnancy and talk about how well you’re glowing. Everything is going well for you and nothing makes me happier than that.” I admitted as she nodded gleefully.
Her eyes got misty and she took a glance behind her. “I don’t know what I’d have done without you, Aurora. You made me realise that I didn’t deserve to be in a marriage that caused me nothing but pain. You made me brave and I appreciate you for that, Honey. Angelo and I are getting serious and I can’t believe that I’m in love with someone that I’m older than.”
My nausea was temporarily forgotten as I basked in her joy. She deserved every good thing she got and I hoped that my secret wouldn’t drag her down with me.
“Don’t allow anyone to make you feel bad about your decision. You both aren’t hurting anyone with your relationship and you are happy with him. That is what matters,” I advised her and she pushed me to her arms for an embrace.
I stayed for a while, enjoying the warmness that exuded from her embrace. At that point, she represented my late mother, doing the things that she never got the chance to do for me.
“I’ll go back to them now before they come looking for us.” She said and I nodded.
I’d have followed her but the sound of my phone ring halted me. It was an unknown number which got me alarmed but I picked all the same.
“Good morning, who am I speaking with?” I asked in the nicest tone I could come up with.
“I should have known that you wouldn’t recognise the voice. It’s your long lost cousin, Erizo.” He chuckled, causing my heart to skip a bit.
I lowered my voice so that no one else would hear our conversation. “Why are you calling me, Erizo?”
“To check up on you, of course. Father said that you abandoned the cause because of the Capo’s dick. Does he ride you so well that you forgot about your vendetta?” He taunted as anger burned within me.
“It’s none of your business, Erizo. I’ve chosen my path and you have done the same. I hope the soldiers backing you up know that you take coke for survival and you can’t do without it till now.” I retorted bluntly, disgust accompanying my words.
He hesitated before responding while I took a deep breath and waited for him to reply.
“Every action has a consequence and the consequence of your action won’t be good. That’s a promise.” He stated, each word sending cold chills down my spine.
I leaned on the sink thinking of what to do since my uncle and Ginevra were working hand in hand, I knew that they would make my life a living hell.
“Aren’t you ready, Aurora?” Giselle shouted from the room.
“I’m coming.” I shouted and applied some powder to my face which had turned ashen.
*********
Matteo squeezed my palm when Danilo and Sofia exchanged their vows. Will I ever get married?
I never had plans of getting married but being with Matteo had made me yearn for so many things. But I wasn’t even sure he wanted the same thing. I convinced him to accept our child, but I couldn’t do the same concerning our relationship.
There was no need to push things and I wouldn’t marry him while carrying a lot of baggage.
“You were right about them.” Matteo commented.
“Right about what?” I asked, peering at him.
“You said that they would fall in love against all odds and they did. It won’t be bad for you to be a soothsayer, you know.” He joked and I swatted his hands off me.
His laughter was a bit loud causing the people behind us to murmur.
“You are causing a distraction, Matteo.”
He shrugged and waited for them to kiss. Danilo lowered his head since he was taller, entwining his fingers with Sofia’s and they merged their lips together. Today they became one in the eyes of the law and the society.
“I feel like doing the same thing to you right now.” Matteo’s breath fanned my neck causing my hairs to stand.
“We could have a quickie in the bathroom.” I suggested and bit my lower lip, my hand reaching for his dick which I caressed from his pants.
His shoulders tensed and he pursed his lips to hold back a groan.
“Stop this wedding!” A feminine voice yelled from the back, and I quickly retracted my hands from Matteo’s body.
Everyone turned around to see who the intruder was. I craned my neck since we were sitting far away from the door but I didn’t do that for a long time as a young slender woman cat walked towards the altar.
My gaze left her face and a gasp escaped my lips when I noticed the bulge on her face. She was pregnant and if I wasn’t mistaken, it belonged to Danilo.
She stopped right in front of Danilo then faced the audience confidently.
“This wedding won’t continue because Danilo here is my lover and he got me pregnant.” She announced loudly and the next thing that happened was Sofia falling to the ground, her flower falling from her hands.
