Aurora’s POV
“Huh?” I jerked up the bed into a sitting position, my eyes widening at his request.
We had only kissed once but it was brief and I always acted like it never happened because of how teasing he made it be.
“Yes, I want to kiss you.” He reiterated, causing butterflies to whirl in my stomach.
“Is this a part of the challenge?” I furrowed my brows and he snorted.
“Maybe, but I really want to taste your lips. You don’t know how hard it is for me to lie beside you while your lips are staring at me untouched.” He made a joke of what he desired but I knew that he was serious.
At least, he was blunt unlike other men who lied about what they wanted. I couldn’t blame him though, he was a Capo and it wasn’t hard for him to make demands.
“Just a kiss, right? It won’t lead to other things.”
“A kiss usually leads to other things but I’m ready to take whatever you want to offer me…” He replied with a smug grin and I wrapped my fingers at the small of his back and brought him close to me.
The kiss was slow and sensual and his lips were soft and warm against mine. His tongue delved into my mouth fighting with mine for control. I couldn’t explain my feelings, but deep down I knew that I wanted more than just a kiss.
I broke the kiss and panted, giving him some distance so that I won’t be tempted to kiss him again.
“You’re happy now, right?” I asked.
“Something else will make me happier,” He replied with a flirty tone.
“Let’s go to bed.” I demanded and covered myself with the duvet, and turned off the lamp.
*******
We had gotten home that morning in silence. My reaction to him after the kiss seemed to have bruised his ego but I didn’t care. I needed to find a way to talk to Alessio and bring him over to my side. I couldn’t allow the crazy feelings that were living rent free inside my head to destabilise my plans.
Ginevra stood in the living room as usual a smiled at Matteo. It was warm and filled with longing, if Matteo saw it, he didn’t act like it. Then I headed towards her as well.
“Good morning, Ginevra. I’m sorry that I returned late, I’ll go and make breakfast now,” I said to her and she nodded with a blank look on her face.
“Just be quick about it. Sir Matteo would like to eat before leaving the house.” She replied bluntly and walked away.
I released a sigh that I didn’t know I was holding. I’d expected her usual rants, but she decided to be calm. It was a good sign for me.
Some steps clicked on the floor and I turned around to find Matteo coming towards the door. We had taken out baths at the hotel, the only thing he had to do was to change his clothes.
“Are you leaving now?”
“Yes.” He replied and continued toward the door.
“Won’t you like to have anything to eat? It’s still early,” I suggested softly and he halted on his steps.
“I’m not hungry, just make sure that Angelo and the others have something to eat.” He instructed without glancing at me then he stalked off, jamming the door with so much intensity that caused a reverberating sound.
Guilt gnawed in my heart but I shut it out, determined to focus on what brought me to his house.
I rushed to the kitchen hastily and prepared some toast with scrambled eggs. It was easy to prepare so I dished Angelo’s food and headed for his room. He was busy with his laptop but he wore a brooding expression and I took it as a cue not to disturb him.
My phone rang as soon as I got into my room, but the caller was unknown. I went through the digits but I couldn’t trace it to my uncle’s so I went ahead to pick it.
“Hello..”
“It’s Giselle, Aurora. I really need your help, please come over to the house,” Her voice was shaky and she sounded panicky.
I could hear someone coughing terribly from the background.
“What happened?” I probed as I unzipped my dress.
“I can’t say anything over the phone, just help me please. I’ll send you the address through text.” She said desperately and ended the call.
I sank onto the bed and thought about her call. She was cold when I talked to her at the party and didn’t want to listen to me. Now she needed my help but I couldn’t even tell if her cry was genuine or not.
Maybe she had told her husband about me and they decided to lay a trap for me. I thought about calling Matteo then kicked against it, he wasn’t so good with relationships and if Giselle was really having issues with her husband then he wasn’t needed.
I stepped out of my dress and selected a black pair of jeans and a blue sweatshirt from my wardrobe. I wore converse on my feet and tossed a shoulder bag on.
Still having doubts about Giselle’s call, I decided to text Matteo.
I’m at Giselle’s. Catch ya later.
I sighed and raced out of the house while my phone beeped. I checked and saw that she had sent the address already.
My phone beeped again but I didn’t bother taking a look at it, what mattered to me more was getting to Giselle’s house. I hailed a taxi and gave him the location of where I wanted to be.
He was reluctant at first for some reasons he didn’t want to share, but when I told him that I’d double his pay, he agreed to take me there.
Antonio’s house was in proximity to ours so we got there a few minutes later. A guard stopped me at the gate, since my face was new. I didn’t want to argue with him so I called her number. She picked at the first ring while panting on the phone.
“I’m at the gate, come get me.” I ended the call and folded my arms .
She got to the courtyard of the house in no time and signaled that the guard let me in.
“I shouldn’t have called you for this but you’re the only one who has seen through me and decided to help, so I decided to call.” Her voice wasn’t as controlled as she wanted it to be and she clutched tightly to her black silk robe.
My eyes scrutinised her closely and when the robe parted slightly, I saw a smear of blood at the edge of her dress.
“You sounded so worried on the phone, what happened to you?” I asked sternly, becoming alert at the sight of blood on her clothes.
“I stabbed him.” She blurted and burst into tears as we got to her room.
