CHAPTER 145 – BLOOD OR WATER

SCARLET’S POV
Hmm, Carl and Hedrick… my brothers.
It has been such a long time and I never imagined that the first time I was going to meet them would be in such a weird position.
Truly, life is a mystery.
Back then were Carl and Hedrick, a duo that could get me flinching just by the mere smell of the scent, and now I face them in a battle, one that they never knew would last to this day.
“The Queen, huh…” Carl said in a mocking tone, trying to taunt me.
This pair would never change, their arrogance truly follows them everywhere.
Hedrick joined his brother. “We finally met with her…” he giggled. “And now how is she? I am not a scary girl” he mocked.
I continue to watch them, giving no hint of annoyance. I am not annoyed at them, I agree that there are so many scores to be settled, but I would not want to do that here on the battlefield. I think a round table would be a better option.
“We are two can’t you see? We would finish you in the blink of an eyelid” Hedrick said.
“But we must have to fight to find out,” I replied.
I tried to change the tone of my voice, but it appeared cranky instead as I never envisaged this scenario. This made them believe that I was already frightened.
“Hahaha…” Carl laughed. “Give up now, surrender. This would not guarantee your life, but it will stop more bloodshed. Actually, I don’t mean to be mean, not in the least. But you will agree with us that you have killed so many of our men that letting you live would not be a very wise idea. But we promise that we would not bring any harm to your soldiers” he offered.
I heaved. They were both pulling in on me, both of them tactically drawing closer to me by the second. The pace at which they draw in was minute and almost invisible and if I had not known this trick of theirs, I might not have noticed.
I pretended to launch my horse on one of them, causing both of them to draw back, much farther from where we began. At least, the space is better now and the chat can go on.
“Hey… hey… hey, we are here to bargain for your slaves, or don’t you care about them?” Hedrick asked, pretending to be sincere.
“The last I checked, neither of you was in a position of authority Carl and Hedrick. Who are you to make such a great decision for your alpha?” I asked. I have finally succeeded in controlling the tone of my voice.
“Uh…” Carl murmured. He was apparently disgusted by the way I had addressed them.
Disgusting pride.
I know them, they hate to feel powerless, and even that has not changed.
“You may be the queen to some bunch of dwarves, but you have no right to talk in such a manner to a general in Diamond Cut” Carl slammed at me.
I chuckled. They had wanted to get me pissed, now who is even more pissed?
“Don’t flatter yourself, we see you’ve got no etiquette” Hedrick shunned.
“The last I checked, battles are fought are won by the sword and not by mere words of mouth,” I said.
“So be it…” they both chorused, ready to attack.
The fight was going to begin, the fight with two of my siblings. Before, I would not dare look them in the face, but today, I stand against them in a gruesome fight.
But I cannot hurt them in this state, I cannot hurt them as a human. They are family and I share a bond with them. However Stake is different, she has no link with them, and she never had.
She is new, I only discovered her long after I had left my family. Stake has never been afraid of anyone, and she has always been angry with them and had long hoped and waited for a day like this when she would be opportune to take her vengeance on each and every one of them. So she can take care of them now.
But I would remain in her head to stop her from doing something crazy. This war might be to prove a point, but not for the purpose of some patricide.
Blood truly is thicker than water.
I let out a terrifying growl, which got them and their horses staggering for balance. And before they could comprehend what was happening, I was already in my wolf form. Stake has taken over.
CARL’S POV
The white wolf.
It was truly a sight to behold. It was intriguing. Beautiful and yet fearless.
It gazed at us and its eyes gave away what it wanted to do with us. Leave us dead.
But I am a brave soldier, a fearsome general of Diamond Cut pack and I would not chicken out at the sight of a mere wolf no matter what legend holds about it.
I was already captivated by the sight of the white wolf that I almost forgot the reason why it was before me in the first place.
Strangely, it was as if a part of the white wolf belonged to me. It seemed like we shared something together, something that could not be explained by mere words of mouth.
I quickly dismissed the thought. Maybe my feeling was a result of the fact that I had always fantasized about meeting a white wolf someday, though not in this condition. That must be why I could comfortably deviate from the business of the day.
‘Carl, let’s shift at once’
Hedrick’s mind link pulled me out of my fantasy state and brought me back to the present, the horrible present. For once, I hated to fight.
“Uh…” I replied in agreement.
We quickly shifted, and soon our wolves were facing the white wolf. Each wolf ready to devour the opponent.
The white wolf launched at us without hesitation. It was nothing like the fights that we were used to. It was as if our punches and kicks were aimed at the air. Nothing we do ever seem to get to the white wolf.
Fear crawled in. Why does the white wolf appear to be reluctant? We had been watching it the whole day before we finally decided to attack. She silenced her victims in the twinkle of an eye, why is she still keeping us alive?
We have become completely exhausted, and we secretly prayed for death to come. We are better off dead than admitting defeat to a mere woman. But no, it wants to suffer us further.
Maybe it is as a result of how we tormented her when we met. I knew that was never a good idea, we should have just gone straight to the fight. What was I even thinking?
The white wolf sniffed our already helpless body, and then it growled in anger as if a greater force was restraining it from going further. After a while, it licked our necks, biting them softly in the process.
As the bite got to each of our skins, we let out a loud wail and everywhere became immediately blurry.
But I cannot be wrong, there was something about the licking, it was… familiar.
‘That can’t be possible, right’ I struggled to ask Hedrick through our mind link that was rapidly becoming faint.
‘No… way. She could be dead or something’ he chuckled painfully. ‘That weakling’
But then, it seemed to all add up. If not, why do we both feel the same way?
The white wolf suddenly turned around and with what appeared like an angry growl, it walked away.
We were completely weak and about to pass out but we managed to shift back to our human form. Blood was dripping out slowly from our necks. The more blood we lose, the weaker we become.
Having shifted, Hedrick ordered. “Retreat everyone, stop the fight now and withdraw. We concede victory to Pixolands. Please, my queen, ask your men to end the war. Diamond Cut is in the wrong and now we give pour mandate to you”
It was with great pain that Hedrick made this announcement. The pain was both physical and mental.
“The battle is over and we shall all return to our Land. We lose to Pixolands” I added.
It is not just our fight, we also need the queen to agree to let us leave with our lives.
The white wolf continued on its way without looking at us.
“Please save us… my queen” Hedrick cried out seeing that more of our men were still been killed.
The white wolf stopped moving, and still without looking at us, she growled. We were stiffed, what was happening, what if she refused to let us go, then Diamond Cut would lose every one of its soldiers?
However, to our astonishment, her men put down their fists and started to drawback.
Indeed it was a miracle to behold.
