SCARLET’S POV
I could feel his presence as he drew closer and so I walked out of my tent. I want to welcome him when he arrives. I cannot believe that I have gone for this long without seeing him.
My heart started to race in anticipation of his arrival and I paced around the camp anxiously.
“Is everything okay, my queen?” a slave approached me and asked with her head bowed. I could tell that she had been watching me since I came out.
“I am sorry for intruding, my queen, but want to know if there is anything that I could do for you” she added, nervously.
“My Chamlee is coming today” I revealed with a grin.
She giggled and wrapped her hands together. “That is awesome, my queen” she beamed with a smile and tried to curtail her excitement.
“I can’t wait to see him, it has been so long” I murmured absentmindedly.
“He will be here soon, my queen. Should I go and wait for him along the road? I will return as soon as I sight him” she offered.
“Okay, please do” I replied.
Getting my permission, she ran off excitedly. But there was no need to send her away. Chamlee would be here soon which I already know. We should just stay here and wait for him to arrive.
But right now I am so excited and cannot even think straight. All I want is to see my Chamlee and hold his hand.
Hold his hand…
Don’t I want more from him? What do I even desire?
Chamlee has been nothing but the best to me and even till now it is as if we are just friends. Our union has not been consummated.
However, he does not hold any grudges over that. he appears to be content with just working by my side and giving me all the necessary support that I need.
Doesn’t he want more, don’t I want more?
These thoughts filled my head even in the midst of this fierce battle. Truly, love knows no situation.
I did not realize that I would miss him this way until now. I have never had a cause to ever be away from him for this long and now it is as if I cannot spend an extra day without him.
But what if he does not feel the same way too, what if he is only acting his duty and is only doing right by me?
Is he allowed to love or he would have accepted anyone who became his queen regardless of his true feelings?
What if I am no more, would he treat his next queen just the same way that he had treated me or would he feel the impact of my absence?
Would he forget about me the next minute once he is handed over to another?
I feel jealous already. The mere thought of this shredded me to pieces.
Oh no, I just realized that I don’t even know about him. What was his life like before me? Has he ever loved another? And if so, who is she, and where is she?
Did she leave because of reality, or did she fall out of love with him?
What would he do should she return? Would he turn against me just like… my throat felt coarse and I started to cough.
“My Chamlar, are you okay?” I heard Chamlee ask from afar.
I looked up. He had arrived with the armies and seeing my state, he rushed over to me looking extremely worried.
“Chamlee…” I murmured.
“Are you okay?” he asked and placed my head on his chest.
His chest was hard. It was as if I was leaning directly on his bones. He looks so lean, he has emaciated greatly.
“Sure… I am… waiting for you” I stuttered and smiled at him.
“I am here now, my queen, and you don’t have to worry anymore. I will never leave your side again” he assured me and patted my back warmly.
But has he been serious? I mean his promise. Or is he just playing the script, being a good Chamlee?
My face was overtaken by sadness but I tried to wipe it away.
CHAMLEE’S POV
My heart leaped for joy as soon as I set my eyes on her. She was standing under the sun and was just like an angel as the glorious sun reflected on her skin.
Yes, she is my angel.
However, my joy was immediately overtaken by fear when I saw the worry in her eyes. She seemed to be lost and in deep thought.
Seeing her like that, the little bag that I was with unconsciously slipped away from my hands. It landed on the ground while I rushed down from my horse to go meet my Chamlar.
“My Chamlar, are you okay?” I asked as I drew closer.
She looked up at me with a little frown that disappeared as soon as it arrived. This made me even more worried.
“Chamlee…” she murmured.
“Are you okay?” I asked and went ahead to place her head on my chest gently.
“Sure… I am… waiting for you” she stuttered and smiled blandly.
But what was wrong with her? She looks so frail and worried. Why should she be this way, or is there bad news from the battlefield?
“I am here now, my queen, and you don’t have to worry anymore. I will never leave your side again” I tried to pacify her and make her lively again.
It seemed as though my assurance made her even more gloomy. She looked into my eyes and then looked away. What is happening to her?
“I am happy to be with you, my Chamlar. I couldn’t help it, I was worried about you all through. I would not have forgiven myself if something bad had happened to you” I said wholeheartedly.
She looked into my eyes and asked. “And is that why you look all dried up?”
“No… no… I take my meals. There are just too many issues to attend to” I protested. She would not be happy if she got to find out about my deficient eating habits.
She chuckled and moved away from my chest. “I will need to fortify you, Chamlee. I only did that for the werewolves but I would not want to take any chances with you since you are here now” she revealed.
“You mean the one with your blood? Landon revealed how weak you got from it” I asked.
“I need to do this, Chamlee” I insisted.
“But there is no need. I fought with the enemies and no harm came to me. I can take care of myself even now,” he persisted.
“You are here with me now, my Chamlee and I don’t want to gamble with your life. You have an option of remaining here if you don’t want this, but then we never can tell where the enemies might want to attack next” she replied.
I don’t think arguing about this would bring the desired result. I don’t think anything would bring about the desired result. She is just too stubborn and would not listen to me.
Of course, I know she was doing this for me, but what about her own health, does she ever stop to consider that?
“So how do you intend to go about that?” I asked. “See, there is no way. I have no wolf and would never habour venom” I said.
She grinned and led me away from the sun to the front of the tent. “And who said I intend to make you have venom?”
“But…” I tried to reply but she interjected.
“All the werewolves should draw closer” she ordered.
When the werewolves were separated, she went ahead to give them her blood and when she was done, she sent them to the battlefield after giving them the necessary instructions.
She turned to me. “I will bathe you with my blood, Chamlee” she revealed.
“A bath…” I exclaimed. “You are already weak from giving out just a few drops and you want to bathe me with it. But how is that supposed to help? I can never have venom” I almost yelled.
I was already happy that she was not going to go on with this craze but turned out she was determined to see it through. I was furious.
“Anyone that attacks you would be affected by the venom. This battle is a ferocious one” she replied with a worried look. “I don’t think I will ever recover if anything should happen to you” she added and moved closer to me.
“What about you, dear? Just see how you look already” I murmured.
“Please let me do this, do it for me” she pleaded.
“O… okay…” I murmured. I could not refuse her anything.
*
“My Chamlar…. my Chamlar… what is wrong with you?” I screamed as I held her tightly to my bosom.
She fainted as soon as she completed the ritual on me.
Right now she has turned completely white and was looking so frail. Her breathing had become shallow, and she tried to mumble out some words but they came out as mere air.
“Oh no… this cannot be happening. I knew I should not have allowed you to go on with this and now it is my fault that you are this way” I lamented.
A tear dropped from my eyes, I feared I was going to lose her.
