BETA ROBERT’S POV
“Can I come in, alpha” I requested as I pushed my head slightly through his door.
He murmured something that I could not grasp, and I took that to mean a yes and so I found my way in.
As I entered, he shot me a look and quickly rolled his eyes away.
“How are you today, alpha?” I asked.
“I am good, Robert” he replied in a firm voice.
I looked at him and wanted to ask if he was sure about being good as he doesn’t look it in any way, but I decided against doing so.
“Good to see you today, Robert,” he said.
“Good to see you too, alpha. Since you did not come to us, I decided to come to you” I giggled.
“Diamond Cut is going to war with the Pixies,” he said absentmindedly.
“What do you think about that?” I asked.
“I know it is a terrible choice. We got Dark Age at our back and we’ve got no time for frivolities. I wonder when alpha Fred will stop listening to his savage beta” he spat.
“I was thinking in the same line too, alpha. On what basis are they going against the Pixies?” I asked
“On ego. Obviously, the ego of Tim was ambushed by a woman and he want to pull the Pack’s resources at a point such as this to go after a woman” he said in spite.
“Why not try to stop alpha Fred? He will listen to you” I asked.
“I tried all I could to make him see reasons at our meeting yesterday. But alpha Ray could barely say a word through it all. Seems like he is in even deeper shit than the rest of us” he replied.
“I learned his mate is now a slave in his Pack” I murmured.
“Good for her, good for the both of them” he replied with little interest. “Fred did not listen to me. We should be more concerned with Dark Age at this point. What if they decide to pull in their forces and attack at this point, a time we would be in war with a woman?” he asked in disdain.
I sighed, it was really a dark time in our land.
“It cannot be destroyed in our time, Robert. Our forefathers did so much to keep it till this time but what do we have? We cannot be doomed” he lamented.
“I wonder why everything is happening at this point. It is as if a greater force is trying to tear us apart. Now I wish your luna was here” I said.
“My luna” he eyed me. “Now I don’t even know where I stand. It is all the fault of that bitch, Violet” he said the name with so much hate.
“You did not listen to me, alpha, and then you pulled back the troops sent to find her,” I said.
“I did not wrong by her, Robert. She left on her own accord” he replied quietly.
“Yet you did not do right by her. If you had been more understanding with her, she would not have left. You punished her for something that she could not control. At a point when you were supposed to shield her and make her know that you are here to protect her, you threw her to the beasts wanting to devour her” I said.
“But now she is gone, gone far away from me” he replied.
“We can still find her, alpha, we can search for her,” I said.
“To where, and for how long, Robert? My heart is broken, shredded into pieces. I have a great calamity that has befallen me and now I don’t know where to run to” he said in deep pain.
“With your mate by your side, you will be able to scale through this” I replied.
“She is my luna, but is she my mate? I was cursed and I can never find my mate. I can never find happiness” he lamented.
“I will take it upon myself to go in search for her, alpha, give the order and I will be on my way now. You need her and this time you are going to make her your mate” I said.
“No… no, Robert. I will not let you go. Send some men instead, pick the best you think, and send them to go look for my luna. They should never return until they find her” he instructed.
“I will do that alpha, but I don’t mind going myself to hasten the search” I tried to persuade him to reconsider my suggestion.
“No… the kingdom is in chaos now. The enemy has surrounded us and we don’t have an ally to fight by our side. I need you in this perilous time, I need you to fight by my side and wad off our foes. If you leave now I will be all alone and who knows what terrible decisions I would make when you are away” he refused.
“I understand, alpha. I will get a few of our best men to go in search of her. they will return and bring our luna back to us” I assured him.
“Thanks, Robert, I don’t know what I would have done without you” he smiled faintly.
“I am your beta, alpha Jake, and above all, I am your friend” I replied with a smile.
I looked at the alpha, his lips curled up in a smile that barely lasted for a second. I know just how hard it is for him at a time such as this one, but I believe he would surely be able to pull through this.
“Robert” he called.
I turned to him. “What if she does not want me anymore? We can find her and bring her back here, but what if she rejects me?” he asked quietly.
“We might have to wait until she is found before we determine if she would want you. Only her can decide what she wants” I replied.
We would have to leave that to fate. She might decide to forgive him when she discovers that he is truly remorseful about his past deeds.
“I will have to get going now, alpha. The search has to commence in earnest” I begged to take my leave.
“Alright, Robert. I will meet you in your office shortly, we need to strategize on how to go against the armies of Dark Age” he agreed.
“Very well, my alpha” I bowed and walked away.
I am extremely happy that the alpha has finally decided to do the right thing. He should have done so long ago, but then, I believe that it is never too late to begin. Hopefully, all this will be over soon.
