ALPHA JAKE’S POV
I walked into the room when I was sure that no one was there with her. I have to bring her to date on the new rules here.
Approaching her room, I felt a tint of remorse for the way I had treated her but I quickly brushed it aside. I am not about to allow myself to be controlled by emotions once again. it was emotions that got me into the mess in the first place.
“My alpha,” she said with a weak smile as soon as she opened her eyes and saw me standing inside her room.
Her face turned into a frown almost immediately and I wondered what has made it so.
I notice that she was looking past me and I turned only to find Violet standing at my back.
“Violet, what are you doing here?” I inquired.
“She is terribly sick after her fight with me and it is only proper that we pay her a condolence visit” she replied in scorn.
“It was not your fight…” Scarlet tried to speak but immediately began to cough furiously.
I wanted to run to her aid, but Violet noticed and pulled me back. Scarlet saw this and said. “Don’t worry, alpha Jake, I am fine”
She was so weak and helpless. I never imagined that she had deteriorated to this state even with all the doctors that have been coming to attend to her. It is almost as if she will not make it and it is causing me to fear. Losing her was not part of my bargain.
“You are weak,” I said faintly.
“Yes, my alpha, but I am getting stronger by the day” she replied and tried to laugh but was unable to as it soon turned into a cough.
“Of course, we can see that. Isn’t it quite obvious, Jake?” Violet said mockingly.
I ignored her and focused on Scarlet.
“I am glad that you finally came,” she said to me.
“Y… yes” I stammered.
I could not bring myself to look at her any longer. She was a pathetic sight.
“I think her evil is getting back at her, Jake. Now she has no hold on you” Violet said with a grin.
“Evil?” Scarlet exclaimed and began to choke.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Violet retorted.
I waited for Scarlet to regain herself before speaking. “Scarlet, a lot have changed in the Packhouse these past weeks and I am very sure that your servants must have briefed you and keep you up to date on the happenings. Before you arrived, Violet was an essential part of the house and even now, we have returned to status quo…”
“O… o.. Ja…” she started to choke again.
“You can just keep calm and let him finish. Even if you are going to die now, take these last words to the grave with you” Violet said, apparently annoyed with Scarlet’s interferences.
“Violet is in charge of the servants and guards except of course the ones directly assigned to you and you must do well not to ever direct them against Violet’s will. They are still answerable to Violet” I announced.
Her eyes almost pulled out of their sockets as she heard my words. I guess she was scared of saying another word as she does not want to start to choke again and annoy Violet.
“I would have sent you away as was the agreement with Violet before the fight, but I will allow you to remain here” I revealed.
“Send her away already” Violet grumbled.
“You are going nowhere, Scarlet,” I said.
“And she?” Scarlet asked trying to point at Violet with her frail fingers. When she could not succeed, she brought them down dejectedly.
“I will marry her and make her my luna” I replied.
At the sound of this, Violet giggled and quickly planted a kiss on my lips to the pricking eyes of Scarlet.
“Me… and me?” Scarlet stuttered.
“Why are you so dumb? I thought you’ve grown past this” I queried angrily. “Of course, you are my luna, what else”
“What” they both exclaimed.
“I cannot have her here as the luna too. Who will be the first?” Violet challenged.
“As part of your punishment, Scarlet. You will never be marked. But as soon as I formally engage Violet, I will mark her. Yes, you will be my first luna, but that will be for purposes of this Packhouse alone but Violet will be with me everywhere and will perform the functions of luna” I spelled it out to her.
“That is crazy, there is no way I will allow her to remain here and share anything with me” Violet yelled.
“I need her here to keep you in check, Violet. You are overbearing” I retorted.
“This cannot happen, I must be the one and only true luna and I am not about to share that position with some rejected weakling” she stamped her feet hard on the floor and stormed out of the room. I took a mental note of her action, I will make sure to punish her once I leave here.
“It is me and only me. I will never let you take another” Scarlet spoke, drawing me out of my thoughts.
I looked at her expressionlessly. “As if there is something that you are good for,” I said and walked away without looking back.
SCARLET’S POV
As soon as they were both gone I held my eyes closed tightly and allowed the tears to flow down my cheek freely. Never in my life have I been this humiliated, not even in the mansion.
I allowed the tears to flow freely for some as long as they wanted to without attempting to stop it. After I was done crying, I started to think about what would be my next line of action.
Who had revealed my past to Jake and how did he come back to Violet? How far would I be able to put up with this?
I struggle to get up from my bed and after what seemed like forever, I finally did. The last drug that I took has been effective. It was brought to me by Landon and finally, I am able to sit up by myself and move my body freely. That was the reason why they could all afford to leave me to myself today.
But the tiredness and the recurring dizziness will not just stop. I cannot sit up for long and even when I try to stand, I fall down at the count of three.
I pulled the pillow and placed it comfortably at my back and just then, I heard a light knock at the door.
