SCARLET’S POV
I got into the room and met Lara pacing around anxiously and as soon as she saw me, she stopped and tried to force out a smile.
“Is he in?” she furrowed her brow at me.
“You knew all along?” I asked and narrowed my gaze a little.
She shifted slightly under my gaze, clamps her hand in front, and shifted her gaze to the other end of the room. “I should have known,” I said more to myself as a tear found its way out of my flooded eyes.
She snorted and shook her head. she still tried to avoid my eyes. I let the tears flow. In a single day I have been betrayed by so many people, those I call my own.
“You will never believe me, my luna,” she said.
As soon as the words came out, I felt a bit of chilly air settle in my bone, and I let out a sob and ran to hug her. “I am sorry, Lara, I am so sorry for never listening to you”
“It is okay, it will be fine soon” she whispered into my ears.
I allowed myself to let it all out in her presence and as she was about to lead me to the bed, a voice yelled from the door causing her to tremble. “Get out now”
We already knew who the voice belonged to, and without looking back, Lara left my hands and almost ran out of the room.
ALPHA JAKE’S POV
I don’t care about how she felt after what she had seen, but I am more concerned about her ignoring my command. Doesn’t she know that I can have her executed for such a singular act just by the snap of my fingers?
“Just keep off my way”
I yelled at Violet who was trying to hold on to me and prevent me from going after Scarlet.
She trembled at my words and immediately ran off avoiding my wrath.
I was going to run naked after my luna when I remembered that there was a great possibility of meeting her servants there. Even in my desperation, I still harboured a bit of sanity in me so I turned back and reached for my boxers.
I was completely infuriated when I walked into her room and I had the intention of dealing with her mercilessly for daring to go against my order.
I arrived her room and met Lara trying to console her. This sight made me rethink my earlier decision of going brutal with her but nevertheless, I yelled at Lara. “Get out now”
As soon as the words were out, Lara let go of the luna in fear and scampered out of the room.
“Now you are going to explain to me what gave you such audacity” I ordered, raw fire shooting out of my eyes.
She kept her back to me and replied. “I am sorry, my alpha. I guess I was hurt and forgot that I had no right to be”
“To hell with you been hurt, Scarlet, next time you dare not go against my orders, even if it is just the most minute of them all” I yelled.
Slowly, she turned to me with a grin on her face and she asked. “Is that the promise you made to me, the position I had met you?”
“To hell with whatever promise you are relying on, I owe you nothing, you cheap liar” I retorted in rage.
“Me, a liar” she murmured with a hand pointing to her chest.
“Yes that is what you are, a deceiver and a pathetic one at that” Violet responded as she came to stand beside me with her hands on my waist.
“You have no right to…” Scarlet retorted.
“She has every right to speak as much as you do, Scarlet” I stopped her from completing her statement.
She looked between me and Violet and then closed her eyes tightly while trying to control her breathing.
“I have even more right here than you do, Scarlet” Violet added.
SCARLET’S POV
Did Jake address me as a cheap liar?
This whole scenario, it was all like some terrible dream which I could not wait to get up from. This cannot be happening in the middle of when I felt that I was living my best life. Jake is mine, what is happening to him?
I started to breathe very fast, so I shut my eyes and was pinching myself very hard. If it is a dream, then I must wake up soon. But when I opened my eyes, they were still there, the both of them, standing in my room. Sadly, it is reality and not a dream.
It was all too sudden. What happened between these three days that I have been away? Jake could not stand Violet, at least for a very long time. What happened now, why is he hovering over her all of a sudden and why does he despise me like I was some piece of thrash?
“I have even more right here than you do, Scarlet” Violet added with an air of triumph.
I looked at her again, on a good day she dared not stand before me to speak. Where have I gone wrong and why does he see me as a liar even when I have never lied to him. What terrible lies has Violet filled his head with and why would he believe her?
I have to do something now. If I don’t want this to metamorphose into something more disastrous then I would have to nip this in the bud. “We need to speak now, Jake, me, and you” I demanded.
Violet’s eyes opened wide in utmost dismay. She shut me an angry look and held on Jake’s hand.
Jake looked at her, used his hands to rub her unkempt hair before bothering to reply to me. As I watched this shameless show of affection, I wanted so much to tie Violet up and hand her over to the vampires, some merciless blood-sucking creatures.
“She stays here. Whatever you have to say must be said in her presence” he instructed.
I hesitated a while and he added. “You keep disobeying my orders and you will find out that I am the alpha of this Pack” he threatened.
I straightened up myself. That was not a threat from him, it is a guarantee that I am sure of. At least he was decent enough to give me a formal warning and I am grateful. I still have a lot of scorns to settle and I must remain alive to achieve that.
“I am sorry, alpha” I apologized. “I have never lied to you, alpha, why do you refer to me as a liar?” I asked with my head low.
Violet chuckled and made some inchoate sounds.
“How about you tell me how you were rejected by your ex-lover, alpha Ray” he went straight to the point.
It was as if an arrow has just been pierced through my heart. I gasped and looked up at him wondering where he got such a wicked lie from. But then it was not a lie, it was not entirely a lie.
“It is not so, my alpha. Alpha Ray was a friend and nothing more” I tried to explain, but the more I think of his accusation, it appears to be true.
“Hmm… lies again” he snorted and shook his head. “So are saying that you never went to beg him to marry you just so as to escape me?” I could almost feel the heat of rage spike through his veins when he locked eyes with me.
Hearing this, I held my chest and tried to stabilize my breathing. Whoever had revealed this piece of information was really out to get me. but not to worry I must make sure that I come out conquering.
“My alpha” I stuttered. “I did…” I stopped and avoided his gaze.
“Speak Scarlet, or you don’t have a defense anymore?” he ordered.
“I did not know you then, my alpha. Alpha Ray was a friend and it is only normal that I would want to remain with a friend, my alpha” I said and looked down.
“I see, a perfect cover,” he said and Violet giggled.
The thought of her presence here drove me insane. She is bent on making this more tormenting for me. Now I wish I could turn back the hands of time. But then I ignored her for a while. She was the least of my problem, getting my husband back is my top priority.
He drew a step further in my direction. “You wonder why I came for you, it is because I thought you were of value. I had seen you at Crystal Realms on the night of the full moon. I saw the way alpha Ray looked at you and I thought I was taking a valuable property away from him and what do I get, a piece of garbage, a rejected” he yelled, his whole being filled with spite and disdain.
These words cut my heart. He had not come for me because he found me attractive. He only used me as bait against his friend.
Just when I thought that I have finally been treated as a human, I realize that I am just like a piece of furniture to them all, every single one of them.
He went on, ignoring the hurt that his words were cursing me. “I had followed you and when I approached you, Lara defended you coupled with the way you were dressed and I believed that you were no ordinary girl” he paused and grinned in anger. “And of cause, you were no ordinary girl, you were a pig clothed in royalty. Your whole life was deceit, bitch” he cursed scornfully.
Oh no, this is too much for me to take. But then, what more does he know about me? Whoever gave him this news must not have stopped there, such person must know me very well and must have said even more to him.
I know that there is no way this would have come from Ray, he is not as petty as this. But considering how he had treated me, I meant needed to have a rethink.
“And about your family” he began.
My heart skipped as I heard him make mention of my family. I was shattered and I begged the ground to open up and swallow me. Never in my wildest imagination would I have ever imagined that he would find out about my life with them as I know that is what he was getting to.
He watched me carefully for a second with a sinister grin registered on his face. “Or you thought I would never find out that Beta Tim of Diamond Cut Pack offered his good for nothing daughter to me. His weakling, one that he even till this time is ashamed of” he spat. “You disgust me, weakling” he cursed, infuriated.
“It is not like you think, alpha, I…” I tried to at least explain to him but he stopped me.
“How is it? Would it make any difference that I was given a wolf worse than an omega as my luna? You are a weakling, Scarlet, and your wolf is even worse off” he spat and clenched his fist as he looked at me with his blood-filled eyes, causing me to flinch and take a step backward.
“It is not like that…” I tried to put up a protest.
“Not like how, you evil manipulator? Not to mention the terrible scars on your body, and I thought you were been decent all along…”
I quickly cut in. “I am decent, my alpha even you can…”
“Not me, I was in the dark, left groping in the dark all along by your pretentious nature. And I don’t even want to talk about your instructor just yet” he retorted.
“Rich” I murmured, fear clouded my senses as I heard him talk of Rich.
“I can let her keep her title and move away from here on one condition” Violet announced unexpectedly.
“A condition” I exclaimed. What exactly is she up to this time? And what makes her believe that I would bring myself low to fight her.
“Defeat me in a fight and I will never bother you” she challenged.
