SCARLET’S POV
“You asked to see me, my luna” Lara said as she ran up to me. “I am sorry I could not come immediately when I heard your call”
“That is not an issue, Lara. I have been discussing with Rich” I said.
“About what if I am allowed to ask?” she inquired.
“Robert, about beta Robert. I don’t know if there is something wrong with him or if I have done something wrong to him unintentionally” I replied.
“But why would you say so, did he say anything of the sort to you?” she asked.
“Please ask her, Lara. I have been asking her that since but she still wants to remain worried” Rich said.
“Stop it, Rich, of course, I know exactly what I am talking about. Robert was my comfort when I arrived here. In him, I found some solace. And it was just as if immediately my husband started to loosen up this great and unexplainable gap appeared between us” I explained.
“And would you want it to go back to the status quo?” she asked.
“No, Lara” I replied. “I would not trade the alpha for anything. But then Robert was a friend and then it seemed as if he turn enemy overnight for no reason” I replied.
“And what has he done against you?” she interrogated further.
“Nothing” I replied.
“If he had done nothing to you or say anything of such to you, why then are you allowing this to bother you? See you have patched up things with the alpha and his transformation is enormous. Why let your assumptions about Robert bother you?” Rich asked.
“But then I should be bothered. What do you think, Lara?’ I asked.
“It is only natural that you are bothered. Even I too will feel the same way. Beta Robert was always there for you when we arrived and just like the speed of lightning, he turned cold without any explanations. Of course, you deserve to know the reason for his sudden coldness, but then, how would you present your worry to him without communicating the wrong idea?” Lara asked.
Yes, she was right and this had been my worry too. How would I approach beta Robert and relay my observation without any issue or event I could use to back that up? I know for sure that he was deliberately avoiding me, but then I can’t walk up to him based on my instincts or fear alone.
“And that is why I sent for you, dear. I need your help with this. You and I know that the position of the luna is only an elevated one. After the alpha, the next in line is the beta and if I don’t have an alliance with the beta, then all my achievements over here go to no issue. Who do I run to when I need a close confidant about issues with the alpha? The beta is the only person that the alpha listens to no matter how angry he might be” I explained.
“Your worries are justified, my luna and as for how you would go about confronting beta Robert, he is a wise man and I think it is best you go straight to the point when you meet him” she replied.
This was it. Her answer is the best for the situation. If I must approach the beta, then there is no need to try to play any hide and seek with him, as he would have already known what I want to say. So it was better to approach him directly on the issue.
“I must agree with you, Lara” I concurred.
“Me too, my luna, I must say that is the best solution to this problem” Rich agreed too.
“And when do you plan on meeting with beta Robert?” Lara asked.
“Any moment from now. And I would like that you accompany me” I replied.
“I would be glad to, my luna” she accepted my invitation.
“And Rich, how is your new post coming up?” Lara asked Rich.
“So far so good, and I must admit that Black moon has one of the best armies. Training with them is one of the best things to ever happen to me” he responded.
The alpha had seen Rich engaging in combat with one of his armies and he was greatly impressed with his skills. So he had gone ahead to offer Rich a place in Black Moon’s army which was a great and rare privilege for Rich.
However, the main reason that had prompted the alpha to decide on enlisting Rich in his army was that Rich was my personal trainer, and he figured that if Rich is given the chance to develop himself, then he would be able to impact me better.
“I barely see much of you these days, after the morning training, you run off to God know where only to reappear the following morning. I wonder what the luna had to do to get you here” Lara said.
“Hey stop it. I have never been unavailable whenever the luna needed me” he protested.
“I would not vouch for that, you know. Getting you to come here proved to be an almost possible task and I deserve an accolade for achieving that” I said.
“But even you should understand, my luna. Whenever a task is assigned in the army, no one takes into cognizance the fact that I am your personal trainer. Even I have to suffer some punishment most times for not meeting up” he explained.
“Oh my God, really?” I exclaimed. “Do you want me to write to formally inform them of your duty here in the Pack-house or do you want me to get a replacement? I can’t bear you being punished for my sake” I asked.
“No of those would do, my luna” he responded.
“Really, then tell me what I should do to abate that” I inquired.
“Nothing, my luna, you have to do nothing. I am okay and it is nothing that I cannot handle. And then I feel that would prepare for even greater challenges that I might encounter tomorrow” he explained.
“Are you sure?” I asked.
“Of course I am” he replied.
“And please don’t fail to let me in if you encounter any serious challenge. Remember I am responsible for you over here” I said.
“Okay, I will do as you have said and make sure to tell you about any difficulty I come across” he replied.
“I am not taking that, Rich, I want you to promise,” I said.
“I cross my heart, my luna” he responded.
Now I was a bit relaxed. He has promised to let me in or any trouble and I will make sure that he is protected and not brought to any harm.
“I forgot to tell you, my luna” he said.
“About what, Rich?” I asked.
“My squad has been assigned to go on patrol at the borders with Dark Age Pack” he replied.
“I already know about that, Rich” I replied. So tell me, what is the news on Dark Age?” I asked.
“There are just rumours for now, my luna. But alpha Fred had assured the alpha that Black Age Pack would dare to do nothing. But we have to keep watch still.
“Okay. However, in my view, I don’t think Dark Age would be that foolish to act. And that would be one of the things that I would like to discuss with beta Robert” I said.
“It is noted, my luna” Lara replied.
There was a knock at the door and I said to Lara. “That must be Kendra and Mia, do ask them to come in”
Lara went to the door and did as instructed.
“I think I should leave now, my luna, I will be in the training ground early tomorrow. Do have a lovely day” Rich excused himself.
“And always endeavor to take care of yourself” I replied as he walked out.
“You sent for us, luna” Kendra and Mia said when they appeared in front of me.
“Yes, I did” I responded. “Kendra, I would like to pay a visit to beta Robert so get me something to wear, and Mia, apply some makeup on my face” I instructed them on what to do.
“Okay luna, I will be right back with something nice for you” Kendra took a bow and waited for me to discharge her.
“You can leave now, Kendra, and don’t take too long on that” I replied and she left.
“You know what to do, Mia, don’t take too much time,” I told Mia.
“I will not, Luna” she replied.
“And Lara, when we return, don’t forget to go over my orders with the seamstress. I am accompanying my husband for an important occasion soon and he required that I wear one of those” I instructed.
“I will get them ready, today, my luna” she replied.
I was already a little anxious, meeting with beta Robert does not look as easy as I imagined. I don’t know how I will be able to relay my observations to him without making it sound like I was accusing him of ignoring me. I have already sent a message to him informing him of my visit and now I cannot cancel it even as that is the only thing that I want for myself right now.
