The young man immediately with widened eyes raised his hands, palms open like he was surrendering. “I am so sorry, so, so sorry! I thought you were someone I knew, my girlfriend. You both have the same body type,” he stammered.
“Please Luna… I did not know it was you. Please forgive me. I would never.” He begged and knelt down before her quickly, bowing his head. “Please, I’m sorry.”
Kira looked at the young man and scanned him closely. His voice sounded soft yet strange at the same time, and his apology did not feel natural. It was like he was trying too hard to convince her or something.
“Body type as your girlfriend?” Kira raised her brow and scoffed in her mind. “I see,” she thought, still watching the young man as he pleaded for her forgiveness.
She then took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a second, thinking of what to do. The young man was obviously overdoing it, but she kept her expression blank.
“Get up,” she said when she opened her eyes, giving him a neutral look. Her tone was calm but firm. “It is okay, just… next time, be sure of who you are approaching so you don’t make a mistake like this.”
“Yes, Luna, I understand,” The young man uttered and scrambled to his feet, brushing the dirt off his knees. “I swear, it will not ever happen again. I am truly grateful.” He thanked, but Kira still felt uneasy as she sized him up, although she did not make it obvious how she felt.
The exaggeration with everything he was doing, the way he talked, moved, thanked, begged, everything was too suspicious.
“I’ll take my leave then,” Kira told him, giving him a brief nod as she turned away from him, heading back home.
Walking back, she felt quite uneasy and quickened her pace unconsciously. She felt eager to put some distance between them. Even as she walked, she felt like she was being watched or, better still, checked out by him and not in a good way.
Out of instinct and curiousness to know if he was still standing there, Kira glanced over her shoulder and she could swear she saw him lick his lips, or maybe she did not see clearly. It was as if his eyes were following her every move. His gaze was too low and too inappropriate.
“I don’t like how I feel about that person,” Kira thought and clenched her fingers at her side, trying to figure out whether she should trust her instincts or not.
“Let’s not judge the book by its cover just yet,” she muttered under her breath, trying to be positive and brush off the discomfort as she opened the doors to her home and walked in.
Kira exhaled slowly, trying to shake off the strange encounter from earlier, as the warmth of her home embraced her. “Home sweet home,” she said to herself in her mind.
“Luna,” a soft voice called, bringing her out of her thoughts.
“Mm?” Kira blinked and turned to see one of the younger maids, standing in the hallway. “Oh. Sorry, I was thinking about something,” Kira responded with a small, apologetic smile.
“That’s okay, Luna,” the maid smiles warmly. “I just wanted to let you know you missed dinner earlier and to ask if you are ready to eat now.”
“Speaking of food, I am starving,” Kira said, making the maid giggle softly. “What is for dinner tonight?” Kira inquired, also smiling at the maid’s expression and cute giggling.
The maid cleared her throat and replied with a polite tone, “We have roasted potatoes with herbed meat, and there is also a side of buttered carrots.”
“Tsk…” Kira thought, tilting her head. “Do we still have any burritos and chips left from earlier?”
“Yes, Luna,” the maid nodded. “You bought it this afternoon, but you did not get a chance to eat it.”
“That is true,” Kira muttered, remembering that she had not even had anything to eat for lunch. “Well, that’s perfect,” she said, her tone lightening. “Could you please heat that up for me? And I will just have a glass of water with it.”
“Of course, Luna,” the maid said and gave a small bow. “I will have it ready shortly.”
As the maid turned to go get her dinner ready, Kira stopped her for a moment. “You can have my share for dinner, the potatoes and all or take it home, whatever you want.”
The maid smiled widely on hearing that and thanked Kira, feeling grateful for how kind she was. “Thank you so much, Luna,” the maid said gratefully as Kira smiled widely, loving the happy look the maid had on her face. Some maids lived in the mansion with them, their rooms at the maid’s quarter, while some lived in their homes in the pack. The young maid was the latter.
“It’s okay and it’s my pleasure. Now please, my food before I faint,” Kira chuckled.
“Right away!” The maid nodded and left for the kitchen.
Kira smiled and shook her head as she made her way to the dining room and sat down, resting her chin on her hand. The house was too quiet, with no Alphas bugging her life.
“Should I call them?” She suddenly asked herself, drumming her fingers on the table. “I do miss their bugging.”
“Uhhh, I can’t,” she hesitated, chewing on her lip. “They might be asleep already… I don’t want to disturb them,” she said to herself, letting out a sad deep breath.
“But I miss them,” she sighed quietly, leaning back in her chair as she decided to let them rest.
“I’m bored!” She finally admitted, after a second, feeling so bored.
After a few quiet moments, the maid emerged from the kitchen, carrying a tray. The aroma of freshly warmed food made Kira’s stomach rumble.
Then, the maid placed the tray gently in front of Kira, as Kira tried to wait. The burrito was neatly tucked on the plate, the chips looking so crispy and delicious by the side, and the glass of water that complimented it all. Everything looked delicious.
“Is there anything else you need, Luna?” The maid asked after she was done.
“No, thank you,” Kira shook her head, smiling softly as she prepared to eat. “You can head home now, I will take care of the rest.”
“Are you sure, Luna?” The maid hesitated, “I don’t mind staying a bit longer to help clean up. It is my job, after all.”
“I insist,” Kira uttered, waving her hand dismissively. “You have worked enough for today. Go home, get some rest, and I will take care of the rest.”
“Okay,” the maid said softly, a bit of uncertainty in her tone, but Kira’s gentle smile reassured her. “Thank you, Luna,” the maid bowed and turned back toward the kitchen.
In a few minutes, the maid came out with things in her hand. “Goodnight, Luna,” she said softly, her voice filled with warmth and respect.
“Goodnight,” Kira replied, offering her a small wave.
