The imagined reprimand did not come.
To be precise, there was no sound at all from the other end of the phone.
It was clear that this was not what Mr. Walters wanted to hear. The usually decisive Mr. Walters was actually avoiding the issue.
Cedric said nothing more and just waited for his boss to speak.
After a long while…
His voice was light and tight, more like he was questioning himself.
“You also think she doesn’t love me.”
“Yes,” Cedric answered affirmatively this time. “I think if Taylor had any feelings for you, she wouldn’t be so heartless and leave so decisively. Stop looking for her; someone who deliberately hides cannot be found.”
There was silence again on the other end of the line.
Cedric gritted his teeth and spoke resolutely, “Besides, if you find her now and see that she and Malcolm are… deeply in love, can you handle it?”
He really didn’t understand why Mr. Walters was still searching! Was it to give himself closure?
This time there was finally some noise on the other end, but no words, and then the call was disconnected.
What Cedric didn’t know was that after hearing those words, Ulric felt as if this call was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
It turned out that youthful dreams really couldn’t be forced.
Ulric had thought that he and Rosalind could have a happy ending, as long as he took things slower, paid more attention, and was more careful.
If nothing unexpected happened, they would fall in love sooner.
If something unexpected happened, they would fall in love later.
But reality had given him a harsh slap! So hard that he no longer had the courage to get back up.
He sat in the car, looking out the window as all the scenery retreated, scene by scene, bit by bit.
For a long time.
Ulric took out his phone and sent a period to Rosalind’s WeChat account.
Quickly, the screen showed that the other party had deleted him, with a glaring red exclamation mark.
He just stared at it, unblinking.
Finally, his slender fingers slowly deleted that account from his pinned contacts on WeChat and then sent a message to Cedric.
[No need to look anymore.]
Three years.
It was time to give up.
Sometimes he didn’t even understand why he needed to know her whereabouts! Because no matter what, it wouldn’t be the kind of news he wanted.
Cedric was right; if he really saw Rosalind and Malcolm together, hand in hand, or even as a happy family of three, could he handle it?
A few seconds later, Cedric replied.
[Okay, Mr. Walters. Do you need me to handle the wedding announcement?]
The announcement had originally been a desperate move to force Rosalind to show up. In reality, there was no wedding! Now that they weren’t looking anymore…
[No need. Being married can save me a lot of trouble.]
He really didn’t want to deal with those women throwing themselves at him, except for Rosalind.
And this way, it also gave him an excuse to back down gracefully.
Ha.
Ulric had thought that announcing his marriage would matter to Rosalind, even just a little bit.
Now it seemed everything was calm and quiet.
He didn’t believe Rosalind wouldn’t know about this; after all, the special edition had been out for several days domestically. People in the business world knew about it, even Audrey in New Zealand knew!
Since Rosalind knew and there was no reaction, it meant it didn’t matter to her.
Putting down his phone, Ulric told the driver, “Find a place where I can get my tattoo removed.”
