Ulric’s voice, though hoarse and weak, still carried a sharp and oppressive edge.
Sirena was so startled that her hand trembled, and she quickly withdrew it.
“I… I just wanted to check your forehead to see if you had a fever.”
“There’s no need.” Ulric’s voice was filled with an insurmountable distance, and if one listened closely, there seemed to be a hint of disappointment.
When he had first opened his eyes in a daze, he had thought the figure before him was Rosalind! He had thought she ultimately couldn’t bear to leave him!
But when Ulric strained to open his eyes wider and saw it was Sirena, the disappointment and bone-chilling coldness instantly swept over him…
“I heard you drank yourself into the hospital. I was scared to death! Ulric, even if not for others, you can’t do this for your parents’ sake! The entire W Group is waiting for you. Are you really going to do this just for a woman?”
As Sirena spoke, her eyes reddened.
There was pain, unwillingness, and grievance.
She was so jealous of Rosalind!
From childhood to now, why did Rosalind always have what she could only dream of? What made Rosalind so much better than her that Ulric would cherish her so deeply?
“It has nothing to do with you.”
“Ulric! Wake up, Rosalind doesn’t love you!” Sirena’s voice trembled slightly. “No one in this world cares about you more than I do! For your mother’s illness, I was willing to pretend to be your girlfriend, willing to take the blame for framing Rosalind, even willing to leave W Group where I’ve worked so hard for so many years, all just to ease your burdens and not make things difficult for you! But what has Rosalind done? Besides causing you trouble and making you worry, she does nothing!”
“Shut up. Rosalind’s worth isn’t for you to judge.”
Even at a time like this, Ulric couldn’t stand hearing anyone speak ill of Rosalind.
Outside, Johnny heard the two voices and quickly walked in. “Um, Sirena, don’t you have something else to do? I’ll take care of Ulric here; you should go handle your business.”
The implication was clear: she should leave.
Sirena could naturally understand.
Realizing her emotions had gotten the better of her and that she might have spoken too harshly, she quickly adjusted her expression and sighed helplessly. “I’ve said everything I needed to say. This time, Rosalind’s departure wasn’t forced by us; it was her own choice. Ulric, I hope you pull yourself together.”
Ulric remained completely unmoved, not even sparing her a glance.
Sirena reluctantly stood up. “I do have things to attend to. I’ll be going now. Johnny, take good care of him and call me if anything comes up.”
“Alright! I’ll see you out.”
“No need; I can go by myself.”
Sirena cast one last longing look at Ulric before walking out of the hospital room in her high heels.
Johnny began to fear how Ulric might scold him for bringing Sirena here, but when Ulric spoke, he said:
“Rosalind… she was here, right?”
In his dream, he had clearly seen Rosalind come in and sit beside him, dressed in white just like when they first met when she walked into the classroom through the main door.
She had looked at him with worry and tenderness, promising she wouldn’t leave, saying all those previous words were just jokes, saying she wanted to spend her life with him…
