It was a reminder, a warning, and a caution.
Karlie didn’t understand their situation, but she had a gut feeling that Jaquan treated this woman very well.
Callie fell silent; this was a gamble with everything at stake.
“I… I don’t want Nelson to succeed.”
He trampled on her dignity, and she couldn’t compromise.
With the primary and secondary markets so turbulent, Scott Group might not have enough funds to borrow. But Callie had no choice. She gritted her teeth; for the sake of her pride, she couldn’t let Nelson win and laugh at her.
Jaquan offered another suggestion, “You should know your husband better than I do. Since he started scheming against Scott Group, Shamar has been a mess. Since he wants to acquire it, you could persuade Shamar to sell the company for a good price and use that money to start a new venture. It might even turn out better.”
Callie immediately rejected the idea, “Impossible. This is Shamar’s first project. Whether it goes bankrupt or gets sold, he won’t agree.”
By saying this, she was cutting off any retreat, determined to live or die with Shamar.
Jaquan frowned slightly, “Callie, are you doing this for Shamar or just to oppose Nelson?”
Karlie was peeling a mango, holding the knife steadily. Jaquan glanced at her, took the knife and the large mango from her hand, and slowly peeled it.
She pouted and hugged his waist. The man kissed her forehead and then said to Callie, who was still waiting, “Since you’ve made up your mind, bring the contract and come to my house to sign it.”
“Your house?”
Jaquan gave her an address and explained, “Karlie has a bit of a cold, so I’m staying home with her.”
Callie understood, “It is getting a bit cold.”
Nelson sneezed in the conference room.
After the project team meeting ended, the secretary came in with a stack of photos, “Sir…”
Nelson closed his laptop nonchalantly and extended his long fingers. The cold photos fell down.
The secretary looked out at the autumn scenery through the floor-to-ceiling windows. It was indeed getting cold; he was shivering.
“According to our investigation, Mrs. Oconnor went to Miss Sherman’s place.”
Nelson raised an eyebrow and heard, “Jaquan’s car was parked downstairs.”
“Bang!”
A stack of photos was thrown onto the transparent table, scattering everywhere.
The secretary braced himself, “Mrs. Oconnor wanted me to tell you that if you really want her to eat it, you should deliver it yourself.”
Meaning she hadn’t touched any of it.
Nelson sneered, showing his teeth, “Ungrateful.”
It was expected that Callie would seek out Jaquan, so he had arranged to meet Karlie, hoping to use her to restrain Jaquan.
He hadn’t anticipated Callie fainting and the series of events that followed, leaving no time to discuss business with Karlie.
No matter; Karlie was raised in luxury and had little decision-making power in the company.
“In half an hour, I want to see the market reports from the past few days on my desk.”
Time was of the essence. After reviewing the contract, Jaquan stamped it with the company seal and signed it alongside Callie.
At that moment, Callie felt a sense of relief.
She sincerely thanked him, “Thank you.”
Without him, she wouldn’t have known what to do.
Jaquan smiled lightly, “It’s a matter of cause and effect.”
He mentioned something else, “Last night I had dinner with the Sherman family and brought this up with the Faithview Group’s board. They didn’t agree, so this billion dollars is money I secretly moved to lend you.”
