When she got to the entrance of her building, Georgia Adams instinctively noticed a fancy business car parked near her complex. She thought she had seen this car somewhere before but didn’t think much of it. Georgia wasn’t really into cars, so she glanced at it briefly before heading inside.
As she reached the ground floor, she spotted a familiar figure-and that figure spotted her too. Without hesitation, the man rushed over, with four bulky guys in suits following close behind. It was Ferris Carrick, the guy who had harassed her at the office earlier. What was he doing here? Was he here to mess with Kayden? Yeah, that had to be it-why else would he bring backup? Her heart started pounding at the thought.
Within moments, Ferris was just a few meters away from Georgia. He stopped around three meters from her, remembering something his uncle had once told him-three meters is the death zone. Sure, it wasn’t her husband in front of him, but it was his wife, and there was no way he’d dare to cross that line.
Wiping the sweat off his forehead with a handkerchief, Ferris clapped his hands, and the men behind him quickly stepped forward. They didn’t touch her; instead, they opened an elaborate box they held in their hands. Inside were a series of luxury gifts.
One by one, they announced, “A pair of imperial jade bracelets!” “A thousand-year-old bloodstone!” “A ginseng root aged a thousand years!” “A jade mirror!”
Georgia was caught off guard by this sudden display. Before she could even say a word, Ferris made a shocking move-he bent down and gave a deep, ninety-degree bow. Trembling, he said, “Ms. Adams, I’m sorry I was blind to who you are and offended you. Please, I beg your forgiveness and hope you won’t hold a grudge. These are my apology. It’s all I have, and I sincerely hope you accept them.”
He was drenched in sweat, beads rolling down his face, mixing with the earlier perspiration. Georgia was stunned. Ferris Carrick-an idol to so many, a legend in the finance world-was bowing and apologizing in front of her and giving her gifts? It felt like a dream, one she’d never imagined, but here it was, happening right in front of her.
Confused, she blinked and asked, “What… what are you doing?”
Ferris’s heart skipped a beat. Was she refusing to forgive him? Did she think he was trying to bribe her? Panic set in, and his voice cracked as he said, “Ms. Adams, I know you don’t need these things, but they’re just my way of apologizing. Please don’t reject them! I… I honestly don’t know what else to do.”
Damn it! Why had he been so stupid? Why did he mess with someone like Georgia Adams? Or worse, someone connected to Kayden Scott?
Lust leads to ruin, he thought, bitterly. It nearly cost him his life. Now, she’s acting like she doesn’t want to forgive him, but he had no choice-he had to get her forgiveness, or his career and life would be over. Kayden Scott only needed one phone call to blacklist him from the entire financial world, and if he wanted to kill him, it would be all too easy.
Without thinking, Ferris dropped to his knees.
Bowing his head to the floor like he was about to kiss the ground, he begged, “I’m sorry, Ms. Adams. I really didn’t mean to do what I did. Please, have mercy on me just this once! I swear, I promise, I’ll never, ever do anything like that again.”
Georgia was left even more confused. “Uh… Mr. Carrick, please get up, get up!” she stammered.
She reached out a hand to help him up, but before she could even touch him, Ferris waved his hand frantically. “No, no, no! Don’t! Please, Ms. Adams, don’t come any closer.”
Just hours ago, Ferris had admired Georgia’s face. He had wanted her, imagined her trembling beneath him. But now? Now he wished he’d never laid eyes on her. The thought of her even being near him terrified him. He couldn’t bear to be near her, let alone smell her perfume.
If only there were a way to undo this. If only he hadn’t been so reckless. How could he have messed with someone so powerful?
His uncle’s words echoed in his mind. As long as he’s alive, he’s untouchable.
Seeing Ferris shaking in fear, Georgia was bewildered. “Mr. Carrick, what are you doing? If you have something to say, just say it. I can’t deal with you talking to me while kneeling like that.”
Ferris froze. Was this some kind of test? No, she really didn’t seem to know anything. She had no idea what kind of man her husband was. If she knew, she wouldn’t have come asking him for money.
Georgia probably didn’t even realize why Adams Group had been doing so well lately. Ferris wasn’t an idiot-if he were, he wouldn’t have made it this far. From her expression, it was clear she had no clue.
“Ms. Adams, can you first tell me if you forgive me for what I did earlier?” Ferris asked, bowing his head again.
Georgia swallowed, feeling awkward. Since he had already kneeled, of course she wasn’t going to hold a grudge, especially with Ferris Carrick. She nodded, “Yes, I forgive you. Now, please, get up, Mr. Carrick.”
Ferris finally let out a breath of relief. He slowly got up from the ground and asked, “Ms. Adams, is Mr. Scott not with you?”
Georgia furrowed her brows, instinctively taking a step back. Ferris quickly added, “No, no, I didn’t mean anything by that! I swear, I wouldn’t dare even look at you the wrong way.”
Georgia gave a slight nod. “So why are you acting like this all of a sudden?”
Ferris’s heart skipped again. “You… really don’t know?” he asked, confusion written all over his face.
Georgia’s brow furrowed deeper. What was he talking about? First, he dropped to his knees as soon as he saw her, and now this cryptic question. Did he know something she didn’t? Suddenly, Kayden Scott’s words popped into her head-how he could blacklist Ferris from the finance world with just one call. Could Ferris have already been blacklisted?
