Kayden Scott looked at old Mrs. Adams with surprise. Hearing her call him by his name was unexpected.
“Jamie has already apologized, and he’s in this state… Could you-”
Is she pleading for him? Kayden found it almost funny. At this point, she was still defending Jamie Adams, a man who didn’t know his place. It was baffling how biased old Mrs. Adams could be. Instead of valuing someone like Georgia Adams, who had turned the company around and changed the family’s fortunes, she chose to care for a useless troublemaker like Jamie Adams.
This is what great houses are like!
Kayden shook his head and said coldly, “Enough. Stop pleading for him. I’ve already been more than fair. I can’t believe you’re still sticking up for Jamie Adams. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Christopher Adams, the whole Adams family-except for my wife-would have been gone. The moment I regained my memory, you’d all be dead.”
He locked eyes with old Mrs. Adams as he spoke, exuding an overwhelming sense of dominance. There was no mistaking his words: Kayden Scott wasn’t bluffing. If not for the fact that Christopher Adams had once saved his life and brought him to the Adams family, Kayden would have already destroyed them all. He had never endured the kind of humiliation he had suffered at their hands.
“The rest is up to you. If you’re satisfied, my wife stays in the family. If not, I’ll build her a whole new Adams family myself.”
“Let’s go, darling.” With that, Kayden grabbed Georgia’s hand and led her out of the room.
Georgia, feeling like a scared kitten, quietly followed behind him. Her heart raced as she watched his back. Kayden was so dominant!
The atmosphere in the hospital room turned tense as everyone looked at old Mrs. Adams. Kayden had just blatantly disrespected her in front of the entire family. Was he challenging the head of the Adams family?
“Grandma, did you see that? That fool doesn’t care about anyone. He never respected you. I told you we should’ve kicked him out of the family earlier. Look at the mess we’re in now!” Jamie Adams started ranting, pointing at the couple as they walked out.
“Enough!” old Mrs. Adams screamed, her voice cracking with rage. Jamie flinched, trembling in fear.
Her eyes bore into Jamie as she finally spat out, “From this day forward, Jamie Adams is expelled from the Adams family. You are never to set foot in this house again.”
Boom!
It felt like the sky had fallen on Jamie. His head buzzed, his mind going blank. He was already ruined, and now he was being kicked out of the family? This was a death sentence. He couldn’t believe his grandmother, who had always favored him, would turn her back on him just because of one word from Kayden Scott. It couldn’t be true.
“Grandma, you’re joking, right? I-” He didn’t even finish his sentence before old Mrs. Adams cut him off sharply, “Shut up!”
For the first time, Jamie realized she wasn’t joking. Her eyes were hard and cold, and she had never spoken to him like this. Panic set in.
“Mom!” Jamie turned to his mother, begging, “Please, ask Grandma to forgive me! Dad, help me! Beg Grandma, please!”
Tears welled up in Jamie’s mother’s eyes as she pleaded, “Mom, Jamie is your grandson. You raised him yourself. How can you be so cruel as to throw him out? If he leaves the family, it’s like condemning him to death!”
Even Layla Adams, who had always been close to Jamie, chimed in, “Yeah, Grandma, Jamie’s already in such a bad state. Please don’t be so harsh. Georgia Adams is just getting a bit lucky now, but she won’t-”
“Enough!” old Mrs. Adams’ voice was as cold as stone. “If anyone else pleads for him, they’ll be kicked out too. Family meeting in ten minutes. Anyone who doesn’t show up is out.”
With that, she stormed out of the hospital room, leaning on her cane, clearly having made up her mind.
Harvey Adams and his wife exchanged a look, then quickly followed after her. As Scarlett Wood reached the door, she tossed a final comment over her shoulder: “He brought this on himself.”
“Uh, Jamie, you rest up, okay? I just remembered I’ve got something to do,” Layla’s father said, hastily grabbing her hand and dragging her out of the room.
In an instant, the hospital room was empty, leaving only Jamie and his parents to stare at each other in disbelief.
When you’re on top, everyone’s on your side. But when you fall, the whole world turns against you.
“Mom!” Jamie turned his desperate gaze to his mother. “I think Grandma’s really mad this time. What do we do? She’s not really going to abandon me, is she?”
Jamie’s parents exchanged a look, and his father, who had been silent, finally patted his wife’s hand and said, “Don’t worry, son. We’ll go talk to your grandma. You stay here and rest. We’ll bring back good news.”
Without waiting for Jamie’s response, they hurried out of the room.
Once outside, Jamie’s mother anxiously asked, “How are we going to beg for him, anyway?”
“Begging?” Jamie’s father repeated, then looked at her seriously. “Did Mom seem like she was joking?”
His wife shook her head. “No, she didn’t.”
“Exactly,” he said, his voice firm. “And when she’s really angry, no amount of pleading will change her mind. You know that.”
His wife’s face darkened. “So what are you saying? You’re just going to abandon our son?”
Jamie’s father sighed and nodded. “Yes. He’s a cripple now, a deadweight. What can we possibly hope for? He’s never going to be the head of the Adams family. He’s never going to bring us wealth and success. It’s time to cut him loose.”
His wife gasped, tears streaming down her face. “You mean… you’re really going to give up on him?”
He nodded solemnly. “Yes. He’s worthless now. Besides, he’s not even our real son. We’ll just have another one.”
