Ferris’s excitement grew as he continued, “Such a big project handed to you – I don’t need to guess what you gave in return. Now you’re out of cash, so what’s wrong with giving a little to me? Am I not better than Beckett? Listen, whatever he can offer, I can give you more! I can guarantee the Adams Group will flourish in Hiphia, with money rolling in!”
“Let go of me, you pervert!” Georgia struggled on the sofa, but her strength was no match for Ferris’s. She could only endure his exaggerated advances.
Her worldview shattered. This man, once revered as a god, was nothing but a despicable creep. She had always thought of Ferris as a role model for the younger generation, even committing his success story to memory. Never did she imagine he’d turn out like this. The Ferris before her was worse than an animal, spewing such revolting words. It was utterly demoralizing.
Ferris chuckled nonchalantly, “Just you wait. I’ll show you what I’m capable of. I promise I’ll outdo Beckett. You’ll be begging for more.”
With that, he stood up and started unbuckling his belt.
“Hey!” Suddenly, Kayden, who had been treated as invisible, spoke up. When Ferris entered, Kayden had crawled under the desk to plug in the computer, unseen. Ferris nearly jumped out of his skin at the unexpected voice, having completely forgotten there was another person in the room.
Kayden had been watching this scene unfold for several seconds. He couldn’t believe Ferris would try something like this in an office, let alone right in front of him!
This was dancing on the edge of hell!
Both Ferris and Georgia froze. Taking advantage of Ferris’s momentary pause, Georgia seized the opportunity to escape, scrambling behind Kayden, her face still pale from the close call.
Ferris, furious at being interrupted, sized up Kayden. Clapping sarcastically, he sneered, “Well, well. Looks like we’ve got an IT guy in here. My mistake. Listen, you little computer geek, think you can meddle in my business?”
IT guy! Kayden did indeed look the part in his current attire.
Kayden said nothing, just staring at Ferris with murderous intent.
Ferris dismissed him entirely. In his eyes, Kayden was nothing but a worthless computer repairman. He rose leisurely from the sofa, buckling his belt as he spoke with measured calm, “You know, if you’d been smart, you could’ve whipped out your phone and recorded this. Might’ve made something of yourself. Too bad you’re an idiot. But your chance is gone now. I’m not in the mood to deal with trash today, so I’ll give you three seconds to get the hell out of here!”
Ferris pointed at the door, his face contorted with anger.
Arrogant, contemptuous, lawless – that was Ferris in a nutshell.
A man who’d been on cloud nine for too long, forgetting he was still human.
Kayden’s lips curled into a chilling smile.
This was a true chilling smile – one that seemed to drop the room temperature by several degrees. Even Ferris couldn’t help but shiver.
Kayden spoke calmly to Ferris, “I’ll give you ten seconds. Get on your knees and apologize, then chop off your own hands. Otherwise, you’ll regret everything you’ve done today.”
Ferris furrowed his brow, wondering if he’d heard correctly. Someone was telling him to apologize? On his knees? And threatening that he’d regret it! More importantly, this guy was just an IT repairman.
Damn, since when did computer geeks get so cocky?
“Do you know who I am?” Ferris pointed at himself, irritated. He seemed offended that someone might not recognize him.
Kayden frowned and retorted, “Why should I know you?”
“Hah!” Relieved, Ferris let out a hearty laugh. For a moment, he’d thought his status had slipped. Hearing this, he relaxed. His position wasn’t threatened; he’d just run into some ignorant fool. He snorted, “You’re clearly not from around here. If you were, you wouldn’t dare talk like that. I’ll give you one chance – get out of here now! Then, once you’re outside, ask around about who I am!” Ferris pointed at the door, glaring at Kayden with intimidating eyes. His aura was that of Hiphia’s untouchable god, able to control everything with a wave of his hand.
His demeanor was even more imposing than Ernest’s.
“Kayden!” Georgia grabbed Kayden’s hand, pleading, “Don’t do anything rash. He’s not someone you can afford to offend. He’s backed by Tripod Bank and has an impeccable reputation. You’re no match for him here.”
She suspected Kayden might have some background, but compared to Ferris? It wasn’t even close. Ferris wasn’t just well-connected; he had a sterling reputation, even being named some kind of outstanding youth. His public image was spotless. He could probably earn more from endorsements than most A-list celebrities.
There was a similar incident before. A woman accused Ferris of assault, only to be viciously attacked by netizens. Before long, she fell into depression and ended up jumping to her death. The news dominated Hiphia for weeks, with countless netizens accusing her of trying to smear Ferris’s name. Even Georgia had believed the woman was lying. Now, she found herself in that woman’s shoes, experiencing firsthand what she must have gone through.
Ferris wasn’t the type to use brute force, but his methods were far more brutal than those of openly vicious men. He could destroy someone with his own tactics, and the whole world would rush to clear his name.
Kayden nodded slightly, forcing a smile. Fearlessly, he said, “No worries. He’s just a pathetic clown.”
The words “pathetic clown” were delivered so casually, with such disdain, as if nothing in this world was beyond his reach. As if no challenge was too great for him. Seeing Kayden’s demeanor, Georgia felt a mix of emotions – confusion, gooey, and even a bit of guilt. These complex feelings left her speechless.
“Pathetic clown!” The words rang in Ferris’s ears. He couldn’t contain himself any longer. He reassessed Kayden, noticing Georgia’s firm grip on his hand. Frowning, he said, “Looks like I underestimated you.”
“I never thought you’d go for such a loser!”
This last comment was directed at Georgia, his face twisted in disappointment as if he pitied her poor taste. But after a moment of disillusionment, a spark of interest flickered in his eyes. He began to approach Georgia step by step.
As he walked, a sinister grin spread across his face. His chuckle grew more menacing with each step. “How about this – why don’t the three of us have some fun together? Just imagine how exciting that would be, hm?”
“SMACK!” Before the words had fully left his mouth, Kayden’s hand shot out, landing a resounding slap across Ferris’s face.
