MATEO”S POV~
The urgency in Micola’s tone prompted me to locate my chair as fast as possible.
Soon Ariana and I were out in the hallway to meet the screaming Micola.
“What the hell is going on?” I asked, horror in her eyes she grabbed onto me.
We were making out, having some fun and she just started spitting out blood and it’s not stopping!” she cried.
I turned to Ariana who was just as confused as I am.
“Let’s get her to the hospital, what are we waiting for!” I roared.
Soon we were on our way, with Becky clinging desperately to me for life.
If been so distracted with Ariana and everything that I’d forgotten she was once sick.
My mind pondered as different things flashed through my mind.
What could it be?
Ariana was quiet, she glared at Becky the whole way.
“You could try to look like you care a little!” I remarked.
She looked at me with a displeased look in her eyes and said nothing until we got to the hospital.
Becky was immediately rushed into the Emergency Room and after waiting a few hours the doctor finally came out.
“Doctor, what the hell is going on?” I inquired, he looked down to where I sat and that upset me greatly.
I should be on my feet like a man to hear this news.
“Im sorry sir but the test conducted are showing signs of a relapse” he started
“What the hell do you mean? She has cancer?” I exclaimed before clenching my wheels tightly.
“I’m afraid so, but we won’t know how far it has progressed until we get more tests done sir” the doctor replied.
I entwined my fingers anxiously as the doctor went on about Becky’s case.
“Convenient” I heard Ariana say before she scoffed and crossed her arms.
I turned to her, “Excuse me?”
“I don’t buy this out of the blue sickness, it’s too convenient!” she stated.
“Are you okay? How can you say that she was bleeding!” Micola exclaimed in anger.
I didn’t blame her for her jealousy, I’d left her high and dry just when we were about to……
I don’t want to think of it.
I shook my head in annoyance, I wasn’t angry with her I just couldn’t look at her right now.
I saw the way she watched Atlas fuck Melissa, she wanted it to be her, and I can’t give her that, not now and probably not ever.
I’m a failure of a man, and she knew that, which is the only reason she was in the motel with that guard.
A fucking guard! I’ve been a fool, lying to myself that it doesn’t matter, and for a brief moment I got distracted by her beauty, it was like she had this spell on me.
All through this Becky had shown me repeatedly that she loved me, and maybe I should stick with that.
“Doctor, can I see her now, my fiance,” I asked, I avoided her eyes but I could feel her gaze burning through my head as she gasped.
“Sure, right this way” he replied.
We left and she stayed behind, still in shock at my words, she got a phone call and the last thing I heard was “Hi Melissa”
ARIANA’S POV~
His fiance…
The words shattered my heart into a million pieces, an ache I hadn’t felt since he opened his eyes and called for her.
Have I been deceiving myself? With all of this? What the hell am I doing here? Did tonight mean nothing to him?
I watched him wheel away with Melisa, she turned back and flipped me the middle finger before smirking.
I knew it was all a scam but how could I prove it when I’ve been painted red?
My husband won’t even look me in the eyes anymore, maybe I should give up and stick to the plan to get out of here, no more distractions.
What I thought I had with Mateo was a fantasy….
The phone rang and I picked it up, it was Melissa at the other end, “Hi Melisa” I greeted.
“So I’ve been able to reach out to Liliana Delgado and she’s truly interested in hearing us out, she has given us a slot, can you make it by 10 am tomorrow” she asked.
I sighed, at least there was progress, “yeah” I replied in a low tone, “Ariana are you okay?” she inquired, her voice sounded tender and right now I had no one to confide in.
But I’d learned my lesson not to overspill.
“I’m okay Melissa, just a few issues at home, I’m sorry about Atlas, I had no idea you guys were still involved” I said.
She laughed softly.
“Atlas and I are over Ariana, his sister and I had been planning for a baby and I
just took the opportunity when it came, it’s not serious” she responded.
“Are you sure? I just thought he was genuinely repentant, he tried to get you jealous you know, he cares” I felt indebted to plead Atlas’s case, but Melisa wouldn’t budge.
“Yeah, I’m over his tactics, this toxic phase of my life is over, I’ve found real happiness, something I never expected, a breath of fresh air Ariana” she replied with a little laugh in the end.
“Anna had always had a thing for me since the day Atlas introduced us at the family gathering, she was always there, supporting me through his bullshit, she never once made advances, wanna know something?” she continued.
“Yeah,” I replied softly.
“I kissed her first, and she didn’t talk to me for days, I reached out to her and told her how she makes me feel and the rest is history.
I’m okay with having Atlas in our lives, he is the father of my daughter and I can’t take that away, but he and I are done and I think you need to do the same Ariana” she added.
I sighed, “I know what and who you are thinking about, I heard enough at the dinner table to know your husband is just as toxic as mine, you need a breath of fresh air to Ariana,” she said and I felt her words resonate with me, and tears sting my eyes.
“For your baby, promise me you’d think about it” she urged, I nodded my head and sniffled.
“Yeah” I replied in a low tone, “great, I’ll see you at 10 am tomorrow, I’ll send you the location okay?” she said in a cheery tone before hanging up the call.
I pushed back the tears, even a stranger could tell my mental health was a shitstorm.
I took a deep breath before walking towards the path Mateo took, I needed to finally accept my place in his life.
A co-parent, maybe it’s time I start thinking of ways to divorce him and set him free of me.
