Lilith’s POV
I adjusted my position in the chair, turning my head slightly to look at Adams. A gentle smile spread across my face, a warm expression that felt like it could light up even the saddest of hearts.
“I believe it might be a good idea for me to step out for a little while,” I quietly said, my voice soft and not much louder than a whisper. “I really don’t want to keep bothering you while you have someone here visiting.”
He raised his gaze upwards and a look of worry crossed his good-looking face.
“You really don’t need to go, Lilith. I would much prefer it if you decided to stay. You understand that, right?”
I smiled, thinking of how much Adams loved me and wanted me to be around him always while I pushed some strands of hair behind my ear. “Yeah, I understand, my love,” I said, and I moved closer to give him a kiss on his lips. However, I think it might be a good idea for me to go outside for a little while. You will probably need to talk about important things without me being right there, don’t you think?”
“Isn’t that what I have asked you to do over and over again?” he replied, his voice filled with a lighthearted annoyance as he made himself comfortable in his luxurious chair. “Being nearby and hovering is something I really like. I thought you enjoyed having me close to you.”
I couldn’t stop myself from looking at him with warmth and care, my eyes showing how much I loved him. “Yes, I really do feel that way, but I understand that this moment is meant for you. I’ll just wait outside for a little while, trying to figure out my own thoughts.”
My smile faded slightly for a moment. “Don’t worry Adams, I won’t be long. I just feel that it is good once in a while to take a break and step away, right?”
He nodded, even though he didn’t really want to. His hand was moving through his hair as he spoke. “Okay, I will agree to this, but you have to promise me that you won’t stay out for too long. I will finish what I’m doing in just a little while.”
As I stood up slowly and elegantly, I felt a warm sensation in my heart because of his kind concern for me. I looked at him and said “I promise,” speaking in a cheerful tone.
I made my way toward the door, and I added, “And remember I will be waiting and listening for you. So you better not take a really long time!”
Entering the hallway, I could hear the faint sounds of voices coming from the gathering space nearby. This made me let out a soft sigh as I gently closed the door behind me.
Instead of taking the usual path into the grand palace, I decided to follow the beautiful light of the sun that was shining down, leading me toward the gardens.
I was looking forward to finding a quiet moment for myself away from the noise and activity.
When I turned my back, I saw the three security men that Adams had assigned to keep an eye on me. They were a powerful trio, and they quickly fell into step right behind me.
I decided to turn around and showed them a playful smile that was spreading across my face. “Gentlemen,” I said. “I really appreciate the commitment and dedication you have to your job. However, I would like to suggest that maybe you could give me a little bit of space for a moment? After all, the Queen could really use some time alone to herself.”
They looked at each other, their eyes sharing a wordless conversation that only they understood. After a moment, the tallest of the group, who seemed as strong and sturdy as a fortress and had a serious expression on his face, finally decided to speak.
“My Queen, I believe it is not safe for you to be without guards right now, especially considering the growing unrest in the kingdom.”
I rolled my eyes playfully, and I still had a teasing smile on my face as I spoke. “Even if there’s some trouble going on, I believe I can find a few minutes to enjoy the garden. After all, isn’t that one of the perks of being a Queen? To have a little bit of freedom every now and then?”
The other two guards let out a gentle laugh, but they still stood firm in their decision. The friendly one, who had a smile that was both warm and welcoming, added, “You understand how things are, my Queen. We have a duty to protect you and keep you safe. We can maintain some space between us, but we will be nearby to make sure you are safe and secure.”
I let out a deep breath, as I looked at the door that opened up to the beautiful flowers and greenery outside.
“Okay, I agree but just a good distance back, okay? I promise I will be on my best behavior and won’t cause any issues or get into any problems.”
They nodded their heads in agreement and carefully stepped back to put some space between us, maintaining a respectful distance. I smiled at them and then took a step into the garden.
I found a comfortable spot on a beautiful bench made of wrought iron. This bench was located in a peaceful area right between two lovely rose bushes that were in full bloom. I decided to close my eyes for a moment to truly enjoy the evening.
While I was sitting there, I could hear interesting and lovely sounds of birds all around me, making me glad and helping me to forget about the tension in the mansion.
But then all of a sudden I felt a peculiar sensation like tiny needles poking at the back of my neck. It was a strong feeling that made me realize someone might be behind me. I immediately opened my eyes, turning to look back.
