“…”
Paige didn’t resist, just looked at him for a moment before asking, “Are you okay?”
Did Dr. Clinton get it right or not?
Enrico’s dark eyes stared at her up close, “If being horny counts as something, then yes.”
“You stop.” Paige was helpless.
“Good.” For once, Enrico agreed dryly, without any hint of pestering.
…
Paige half-dried her hair and casually ran her hands through it to sit on the bed.
Enrico followed and sat up, leaning in beside her for a moment before making no move.
Usually the two of them would kiss and cuddle and do whatever they wanted in bed, but not with a small child, not to mention the fact that this small child was holding a lollipop and squatting on the bed, looking straight at them.
This is the first time their family of three in the same bed, bedtime and do not have to be so early, can not sleep, nothing to do.
The three of them could only look at each other for a while, and the atmosphere was a little awkward.
It was Paige who broke this strange atmosphere and said towards Enrico, “Olivia brought a lot of photo albums back this time, do you want to see them?”
“Uh-huh.” Enrico jawed.
Paige got out of bed and quickly took out several thick photo albums, during these three years, she, Olivia had taken a lot of pictures of Gabriel, not for any other reason, just for the future, to make up for the time Enrico had missed Gabriel.
Paige took the top blue suede album and lifted the covers to sit on the bed.
“Come here.” Enrico leaned back against the bed and reached out to pull her into his arms and hugged her from behind, staring down at the album in her hand, “Open it.”
“Okay.” Paige flipped through the album and on the first page was a picture of Gabriel from when he was born, one of her lying in the hospital bed with her arm around Gabriel smiling at the camera as Gabriel huffed and puffed with his eyes closed.
“How come you were so skinny even when you had the baby?” Enrico wrinkled his nose, not only thin, but pale.
“Beauty.”
Paige skipped over the subject with a casual remark, saying, “Look at this page, Olivia took a picture of Gabriel every day for those days in the hospital, but he just slept, occasionally woke up and opened his eyes, and by the time you pulled out your phone to take a picture, he closed them again.”
So on the first page, the photo shows Gabriel in a tiny little ball, always with his eyes closed.
Enrico, however, just stares at her pale face in the photo.
“Gabriel didn’t like to cry since he was born, and at that time, when all the other kids in the ward were crying louder than one another, he was the only one who just moped up and slept, and the tests were fine, so let’s just say he was lazy.” Paige can’t help but smile when she remembers that year.
Gabriel had been born healthy, giving her at the time her first joy since leaving The Capital.
Enrico embraced her and glanced up at Gabriel with disgust, “So that’s what you named him?”
“Pretty much, but it’s just a nickname, I wanted to save the big name for you.” Paige turned her head to look at him.
“Save it for me?” Enrico looked at her, a little surprised.
“Well, that’s what I’ve been deciding, that’s why I haven’t registered his name until now, and a lot of it would be kinda a pain in the ass if the border wasn’t Kevin’s place.” Paige said.
“Trouble, you’re still not registering?”
“Aren’t I saving some of my involvement for you as well?” Paige laughed and gagged him with what he had said.
“…”
Enrico didn’t laugh, only stared deeply into her black and white eyes.
She had done well, not well, too well, regarding this child.
Back then, when he knew he couldn’t protect her and pushed her toward Kevin, he thought about all the possibilities with Kevin after she passed, thought about it so much that he took random pills and had hallucinations.
In the hallucination, she will smile at Kevin, a moment to kiss him, a moment wearing a wedding dress and she was Kevin into the room, and later, her and Kevin’s hair are white …
He fantasized about her whole life.
When he was awake, he was lying on the desk, the medicine was spilled by him all over the table, and the clothes on his body were soaked with cold sweat, like he had died once.
In truth, all his visions were just hallucinations.
Paige moved away early in the morning after arriving at the border, living in a house similar to the Rose Estate, and Gabriel was even less likely to have grown up around Kevin, whose definition of Kevin was very clear, an uncle only.
After the hotel kidnapping that day, Gabriel went into the Lautners family and was not familiar with the inside.
Aside from some ignorant people at Temple in Heaven with ignorant ideas, those close to her never had extra ideas they shouldn’t have, even Gabriel, who grew up without a father figure.
She’d left the naming thing up to him, knowing full well that he’d had a seizure by then, and she knew full well that he couldn’t have a future.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Paige looked at him a little strangely.
Enrico withdrew his gaze, “I was wondering what other name could be more evocative than Gabriel.”
“…”
Paige loses her smile.
Gabriel crouched at their feet, blinking at them, and suddenly stood up and walked towards them, “I want to see the pictures too.”
With that, he stepped right at them with his little bare feet on the covers, squeezing the two of them out of the way and toward the center.
With Enrico on his left and Paige on his right, and the two cuddled in the center, Gabriel was quite content as soon as he sat down, “It’s so warm.”
After that, he tugged on Paige’s sleeve, “Mommy, squeeze me a little tighter, I want to make little sandwich candies.”
What kind of pie-in-the-sky idea is this.
“…”
Paige squeezed towards him and sat down some.
Gabriel was squeezed tightly against Enrico, the feeling of being squeezed was so refreshing, “So much fun.”
He munched on the candy, and when he opened his mouth it smelled sweet and creamy.
Paige brought the album that was sitting on her lap to Gabriel who handed her the candy, “I’m not eating it.”
“Brush your teeth before you go to bed.” Paige instructed him as she took the candy away.
“Uh-huh.” Gabriel nodded and turned another page, this time his eyes were open in the picture, but it was holding up two little hands in a yawn and his mouth was crooked.
He points to himself at the top and turns his head to look at Enrico, “Look, am I not cute?”
“Not cute.” Enrico looked disgusted.
“How can you dislike me?” Gabriel furrowed his tiny brow and pointed to another one, “This one’s cute, isn’t it? Olivia says she’s always afraid I’ll be stolen because I’m so cute.”
“Old people just have bad eyes.”
“…”
That’s a terrible thing to say.
Gabriel squeezed at Enrico again, tilting his little face up at him, turning it a little to the left and a little to the right, “Look at me a little more closely, do I look good, am I the kind of cute that bad people want to steal?”
The little guy was very persistent, in order to prove that he was cute, his little face was close to Enrico’s face.
“What’s the point of stealing you? Figure you can’t read?” Enrico grunted.
“The fact that I can’t read doesn’t stop me from looking good.” Gabriel simply crawled onto his body on his hands and knees, lying on his chest and straining his neck, endeavoring to bring his little face over to him, “Look at it, look at it again.”
His beauty was not to be misunderstood.
