Adea
“He knows.”
That was what was written on the note Mavy gave me. It had been short and sweet. Two simple words. Two words that strikes fear into my soul and had me biting my nails. Two words that I couldn’t get out of my head.
He knows.
He knows.
He knows.
The contents of the note were on repeat in my mind as we walked up the stairs. Knows? Knows what? What does she know? How did she know? Was she aware? Was this revenge? What was Mavy’s motive behind this? Was this a trap? Should I be suspicious of her? If she didn’t want to help me, why would she go through the trouble to do this? The possibilities were endless and when it all came down to it, did it matter? If she was trying to help, then wasn’t the only thing I needed to do was follow through? Was I thinking too hard on this?
My feet come to a stop in front of our door and my mind goes blank. A warm firm hand pushes me forward and I’m engulfed in darkness as I stumble forward. I turn around in time to see Shane’s dark silhouette before he pulls the door closed behind him.
A growl that’s filled with lust fills my ears and sends a sinful shiver down my back. Thoughts, worries, and what if’s threatened to run through my mind but I push them back. I kept both feet on the ground here, in the present, in front of Shane.
I felt him even before he touched me. His touch hovered just an inch above my skin. The warmth from his body caressed my cheek, my ear, and my neck. His breathing brushed against my forehead, my cheek, and my lips.
My lips parted and I leaned forward. When I didn’t feel him, I pouted because he had to have moved back. I couldn’t tell if my eyes were closed or open. A low chuckle filled the room and I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my lips.
“You wanted me all to yourself, and now that you have me, you’re playing hard to get?” I asked.
The room was silent but I could feel him surrounding me, walking around me, watching me. I moved towards the window and he followed, unaware of my plan. He stepped into the moonlight and I was lost.
“Isn’t it time you chase me, Ady?” I asked.
Shane’s body demanded my attention, his lips begged to be kissed. I wanted to wrap my legs around him and mold my body to his. I felt a sense of urgency as reality tried to break down the wall I’ll put in place.
He was so close, so still. If I could just catch him off guard, I would win. When I had him under me, I would be triumphant. I lunged for him and he effortlessly evaded my outstretched hands.
Alarm bells should have been going off. I should be worried about how quick he actually was but that was the farthest thing from my mind. Excitement bundled and grew in my belly at the prospect of catching him.
“Maybe,” I breathed. “Do you like being chased, Shane?”
He laughed, it was a low and dark as it rumbled within his chest. I could feel his cockiness grow. I didn’t have to see the smug look on his face to know it was there. I wanted to wipe it off and rub my victory in his face.
I wanted to wipe the smug look off his face. I’ll taunt him. If I can find the right words, I could pull him in. He had the audacity to laugh at me. That was when I was struck with a brilliant idea.
Like a cat, I pounced but he dodged me again. The adrenaline rush I felt as I made Shane my prey was addicting. My heart rate picked up as I wanted it, needed it. His gaze set my skin ablaze and I squirmed under the heat of it.
“You’re right. Why break tradition now? I don’t like being chased,” Shane mumbled.
He shook his head and in a flash, he collided with me. My back was pressed against the cold window and Shane’s hand was around my throat. The feeling, the need of wanting to catch him was replaced with something else.
Something dark and hot. How did I go from running from him to chasing him, to being caught? And why was I happy that he’d caught me? A dark voice whispered that this is what I wanted all along. My brows furrowed at that.
His lips were moist against my neck and a needy moan fell from my lips. The whisper was forgotten for now. He practically purred in approval. I reached out to touch him but his arms were longer than mine.
I grasped at air. Huffing, I dropped my arms to my side. Looking up at him, I found his gaze on me. He stared at me with an intensity that made my insides squirm. I swallowed down the nervousness I felt coming up.
“I didn’t think you were the type, honestly,” I whispered in a poor attempt to distract him. From what? I wasn’t sure. He leaned forward and kissed me. His kiss was hard and I returned it with a bite of my own. He was rough and demanding as he took from me and I gave to him because that was all I had to do. It was all I had to give. He bit my lip and let it go before sucking it into his mouth. He claimed my mouth again before separating.
“You’re right, Ady. I like the hunt. I like chasing you, I like coming for you and I like catching you. You wanna know what I think?” Shane asked. He was so close, that I could feel his breath on my cheek. My lips throbbed from his kiss.
