SURFACE

I jerked as I fell into ice-cold water. Fragments began to flash through my mind. My head was barely above water and it was a struggle to breathe. I was being pulled under and no matter how much I fought against it, the ocean kept dragging me down. Every time I failed, I was pulled under just to be hurled into another fragment of a memory, I wasn’t sure was even mine.
The first one I was forced to experience had me hot. Sweat beaded and rolled down my temple and I let out a guttural groan as I fucked someone. My eyes were closed most of the time, so I didn’t know who it was. Every time I opened my eyes, I tried and failed to get a good look at her face. All I could tell was that she was blonde. Her fingers dug into my shoulder and I hissed. I didn’t love this woman, I didn’t care about her. Who was she?
I broke through the surface and inhaled as much air as I could before I was pulled under again. The cold water splashed against my face and I choked as I started to drown. I was sitting on my bed. I was hard and I grunted as the woman servicing me on her knees picked up her pace. I forced her head hard and she gagged.
Who the fuck was it this time? Beautiful brown hair. I perked up as I looked down. Was this who I thought it was? She looked up at me as she lifted up off of my cock. She was familiar but wasn’t at the same time. It was as if I were looking at… oh. She was younger than the woman I loved but she carried a few similar characteristics. I didn’t like her either but she kept my appetite sated during the day. She kept an eye on my obsession, my prize, mine.
I was thrown into another room. It was completely dark and I was on top of someone. She lay absolutely still while I took my time with her. The bed creaked and her breathing sped up with my thrusts. I imagined she liked it, imagined she wanted it, and it got me off.
I broke through the surface and gasped for air. My thoughts were mingling with another. Gasping for air, oxygen filled my lungs. I was confused, so confused. I took another gulp of air before I was pulled back down. Deeper this time than I’d ever been.
This time, I stood above someone as angry winds whipped at my face. Chains clanged and someone was screaming. I was angry and excited at the same time. Looking down, I saw my mate. My heart hurt at the sight but I was also happy that she was hurting. She was crying, her eyes weren’t on me, they were on someone else, someone that wasn’t me.
I was thrusting into her forcefully, trying to make her look at me. Even though it didn’t matter because soon she’d be begging me for attention and not the other way around. I was taking her against her will as an enchantment filled our ears. The sound of her cries echoed around me as I broke through the surface.
When I came to, I was surrounded by darkness. What the fuck was that? The metallic tang of blood was strong on my tongue and the headache threatened to split open my skull. Pain stabbed at my arms and legs. I grunted as the pounding in my head only worsened by the second.
What the hell was that and where did it come from? Who was that? I wanted to pretend I didn’t know but I couldn’t deny it. That was my hand, my body, my memories but from where? From when? Who was I and why was I like that?
Where was I? The memory of ripping through the warriors at the border of Half Moon flashed through my mind. It had been so easy and I had been so close before I was caught off guard. If it wasn’t for the pain in my chest, I would have been fine. I would have been able to kill them all. I had been so close to being victorious and crossing the border.
Where? I was brought through the memory of that blonde fucker with the pole. Nasty asshole. He was sick and enjoyed every moment of the torture he inflicted on me. He was of the mind where they beat first and ask questions later.
When I started to flinch whenever he lifted the pole into the air, they thought they were close to cracking me. He didn’t start with a pole, it had started with kicks and punches. Quickly, he moved on to wolf’s bane-laced knuckle rings and only got worse. I swore on the Moon Goddess when I get out of these chains, I would tear him apart.
I planned on killing him slow and painfully. I’ve been running different scenarios in my head since the torture began. Just the thought of it made me eager. My canines protruded from my mouth at the thought of sinking into his flesh.
I was dragged through another memory. I was kicked and woke up to Shane standing above me. Fucking Shane had been here and I was chained and unable to attack him. He’d kicked me around like a fucking dog. I hated that sick fuck with every fiber of my being. I wanted to-
The fragments with the memory of what had happened today were slamming into my head like a hammer. The rest of the night’s events unfolded in front of my eyes. It was as if I were living through them again. When my gaze landed on her it felt like I could breathe again. I was relieved she was safe. I hadn’t realized she’d been in the same room, I hadn’t heard her call out to me.
