Deal

Touche. Shane took a few more steps forward. I gulped and my eyes widened as I realized we were only a few steps away. I screamed as I was flipped through the air like a ballerina until I was face to face with him. He gave me a one-eyebrow-raised look that said I was clearly overreacting.
Of course, I was the one who was overreacting. Not like he was about to throw me into the pool or anything. He lowered me until my chest was pressed against his neck. The visible curves of my breasts slightly grazed the bottom of his chin.
Shane demanded my attention when we were this close. His eyes danced and his lips parted as he stared up at me. He smiled as he took a few more steps and I estimated he was standing at the edge of the water now.
“Okay, okay,” I said as I tried to get him to stop long enough for me to reason with him. My voice came out a little more panicked than I would have liked. “Let’s make a deal. What do you want?” I asked.
“Hmm… a deal?”
“Yes,” I sighed. My shoulders slumped in relief as he stopped.
“One where you’ll give me whatever I want?” Shane asked as he stared down at me. I nodded.
“You just have to ask.”
“Oh look at you. You’re being so cooperative,” Shane laughed. My hands tightened around his shoulders.
“Yes, so just say what you want and we can figure something out,” I said nervously. Shane thought for a moment and the forest was so still. It was as if it too were waiting for his response.
“What makes you think there’s anything you could offer that I would want?” Shane asked.
“I-”
“Didn’t I already tell you what wanted?”Wracking my brain, I searched for a time today when he told me what he wanted. When I stared at him with a clear look of confusion on my face Shane continued. “When we got here, you asked me what I would get out of this,” he said as he jerked his head toward the trees. Replaying the conversation in my head that we had just outside the forest my eyes widened. Shane’s eyes sparkled when he saw that I realized what he meant and then he moved.
“Wait!” I cried out as I dug my fingertips into the back of his neck.
Shane threw his head back and laughed, actually laughed. The sound was so unlike him, so full and happy that for a second, I forgot my panic, forgot my despair, forgot the plan as I stared at him.
His eyes were closed tight, his long lashes touched his cheeks, both sides of his lips were pulled up and brilliant white teeth flashed me as he laughed. I was winded by how beautiful he looked in this moment.
Shane’s hands tightened around my waist as he dashed like a madman into the pool. Little droplets of water splashed against my legs as we tunneled deeper. I thought he was going to hurl me into it.
He had set a precedent today and I should have known better. For the umpteenth time today, Shane did something I wasn’t expecting. When the water reached my calves, he lunged forward, cutting through the air as we both hurled toward the middle of the pool.
The damn bastard was crazy. I took a deep inhale of breath right before we hit the water. Squeezing my eyes shut, I braced myself just in time to go under. Sooner than expected, my body was engulfed in cool water.
My body clammed up, my legs wrapped around his waist and my nipples hardened against his hard chest. I was surrounded by silence. When I opened my eyes I found myself staring into those dark obsidian eyes.
The ones that were usually cold stared back at me as if they were whispering sweet nothings to me. Shane had been watching me, a small hint of a smile pulled at the corner of his lip. He had the audacity to smile at me.
When I didn’t smile back, his smile widened until his teeth were on full display. Despite the urge to punch him, I couldn’t help but smile back at the asshole. His hands around my waist lowered and gripped my backside.
For once, I was thankful we were underwater and he couldn’t hear the gulp that I knew would have been audible. I shook my head and pulled my arms from his neck. I meant to punch him hard but my hand bounced off of his chest.
His shoulders shook with silent laughter and I rolled my eyes. My hands were meant to slam against his chest but the water slowed my movements. I continued to attempt to push off of him but his grip on me tightened.
Shane leaned his head forward and he stared into my eyes. I wasn’t surprised as his warm lips connected with mine. His hands pulled me down until something hard pressed against my backside.
He smiled as my eyes widened. Typical. Before I could start to panic again, he started kicking. Thankful to be heading for the surface, I started swimming towards the blurry moon.
Shane’s hands remained on me as we brought through. The sounds of our deep gulps of air pierced the silent night sky. My chest expanded as I forced oxygen into my lungs. Shane’s chest pushed against mine as he stared at me.
His hair was soaked and fell down his back. Now that it was wet, his hair was longer. Damp strands framed his face, his cheeks were pink, and the water droplets fell from his eyelashes, and dripped down his cheek to his chest.
Now that my gaze had lowered, my breath caught in my throat. His white sheer t-shirt was completely see-through. The material clung to his body and did little to hide the sculpted pecs beneath.
