Adea
“You’re the only woman I’ve ever wanted to take out,” Shane said.
He reached across the table and grabbed my hand in his. Squeezing it, he looked up at me and held my gaze. Is it easier this way?
At least he’s looking at me like that instead of suspecting me. At least this way… I’ve got the upper hand. At least this way, I’ve got him eating out of my hands. This is how I wanted it to go.
This is what I set out to do. No, instead of feeling bad for him, I need to focus on the shit he’s done. I can’t let myself believe in the facade that he’s trying to show off. I won’t let myself feel bad for him.
Instead of jerking my hand back and making him feel bad. Instead of saying snarky to push him away and make him hesitant to reach out to me again. I stare back into his eyes and run my thumb in circles on the top of his hand.
“Thank you for this. I’m having a great evening. The food is delicious and the restaurant is probably the cutest place I’ve ever been to. I love food and I haven’t really had the opportunity to travel and eat new foods. I had fun,” I said. I kept my tone light with a hint of sensuality.
“This is only the beginning,” Shane said. A smile pulled at the corner of his lips. Releasing my hand, he motioned. for the waitress to come forward. Seeing him, she ran. to the table and popped open the soju bottles.
“This is alcohol,” Shane said as she dropped two shot glasses in front of us. Her right hand touched the inside of her left wrist as she held the bottle and poured our drinks for us. Placing the bottles down, she bowed her head and rushed away.
“Are you trying to get me tipsy?” I asked as I picked up the shot glass containing a clear liquid.
“Why? Is it working?” Shane asked as he picked up his. Pushing his shot glass forward, I cheered his and threw my head back as I downed it.
“No.” Yes.
“Give it a minute,” Shane murmured.
He picked up the bottle and filled up my shot glass. I watched as he poured his glass and placed the bottle back down on the table. Lifting his, he motioned for me to pick up mine. I shook my head as I picked up the shot glass.
I don’t think it’s very wise to get drunk with the enemy. No, it definitely isn’t wise. It’s probably the worst idea yet. In my defense, this wasn’t my idea but it was definitely the stupidest thing I could do.
I was about to throw it back again when Shane cleared his throat. Blinking, I lowered the glass and stared at him. His head was slightly cocked to the side, his hand was forward a little bit, and the glass in his hand hovered over the table. How could someone so evil be so cute?
I pushed my glass forward until it clinked against his. I tried to look away as I threw my head back for the second time but a small smile pulled at the corners of his lips. My eyes locked on his lips as they parted and he slowly drank down his shot.
My gaze dipped to his throat as he swallowed before sliding back up to his lips. There was a small trail of soju as it leaked down his lips. Shane bit on his bottom lip and I couldn’t help but swallow.
I took a deep breath and my face felt hot. My body followed and I blinked as I stared at him. I was starting to feel the effects of it and I blinked a few more times as I tried to keep myself in check.
I was starting to have an out-of-body experience as I watched Shane pick up the bottle for the second time and start to fill our glasses again. The bottle wasn’t even halfway yet and I couldn’t help but feel a dull sense of nervousness.
Shane picked up his glass and with shaky fingers, I reached out and picked up mine. I can’t remember the last time I had a drink. When was it? I giggled as I realized it had been at my Luna Ceremony.
Now, I was having a drink with the man I’d been with before Ethan. My chest swelled up with sadness as I thought of Ethan. No, I mentally slapped myself. Don’t start thinking about him while I’m tipsy with Shane. The last thing I need to do is start crying.
I closed my eyes as I threw my head back. The warmth in my face spread down to my chest. When I opened my eyes again, the warmth had made its way down my arms and to the tips of my fingers.
Shane kept his eyes on me as he filled our glasses for the… Uh-oh … I couldn’t remember how many times it had been. His cheeks were flushed as he threw his glass back. I followed him and downed mine.
“You look like you’re done for the night,” he said as he chuckled. “I can’t have that.”
“Why? Don’t have the muscles to carry me out of here?” I asked. My voice was laced with sass.
“No. I want to take you somewhere after this.” I watched as Shane put the bottle on the table. I pouted as he stood to his feet. “Come on.”
“We have to pay,” I started.
“Already done.”
He offered me his hand and I stared at it for a minute. Contemplating if I should take it. Yes, Adea, we need to take it. I reached out and gripped his hand as I pulled myself to my feet.
“Where are we going?” I asked. I wasn’t drunk but I was definitely tipsy. I grabbed the second bottle before we headed for the door.
“Somewhere special.”
