Duke’s shoulders tense and his back straight as he raised his head to look at Shane while he answered his question. My belly flipped back and forth as I watched in horror as the scene in front of me play out.
“You teach them a lesson, Alpha.”
Duke didn’t have to go into detail but the meaning was clear. As his words sank beneath my skin, I held my breath as I waited for what would come next. Shane moved so suddenly, had I blinked I would have missed it.
His touch disappeared from my skin and in a blur of speed, he was instantly in front of Shane. Veins popped out from his large hand as it wrapped around Pan’s face. Pan’s one eye was wide with fear as Shane squeezed tight. With a squeak from Pan, he was hoisted into the air and his feet dangled a couple of feet above the ground.
“That I do. I teach them a painful lesson, Duke. One that others should take seriously,” Shane murmured in warning as he shot Duke an icy glare.
Pan was a wisp of a man compared to the Alpha that had him locked in his sights. The blood had drained from his face and he was pale as he clawed at his fierce grip. Shane didn’t bat an eye at his feeble attempts to break free. He leaned forward, his face stopping only a few inches from Pan’s.
“I’m going to show you what happens to those who touch what’s mine. You’re going to watch as I tear the flesh from your bones, Mutt, and I’m going to enjoy every fucking minute of your pain.”
Pan whimpered at the promise and I almost felt sorry for him. I didn’t want him to die but the thought of what he wanted to do with me had left me feeling sick to my stomach. I could still taste the bile on my tongue.
With his free hand, Shane reaches out, his claws extended, and pierces the flesh on Pan’s right shoulder. His cries are muffled by Shane’s grip as he tears the flesh from his bone. Blood spurts out, bubbles, and oozes down as Shane rips the flesh clean off.
Pan’s bone is visible from the open wound and I’m too afraid to move. Pan’s kicking wildly as Shane wraps his bloodied hand around his bicep and yanks hard. The audible pop sounds as his bone is wrenched from its socket.
The sound of something hard slaps against the floor with a thud but I don’t look. I’m frozen, unable to tear my eyes from the force in front of me. The muscles in his arms and neck are taut as he digs, rips, and pulls apart.
Blood splatters and a bit get onto his face but he doesn’t bat an eye, his eyes are cruel and set on vengeance, and the corner of his lip is curled up. My breath catches as I stare at him, he’s… he’s enjoying this.
How does this make me feel? There’s something I like about this and it isn’t sitting right with me. Am I enjoying Pan’s pain? No. Is it because in that sick mind of his, he’s doing this for me? I don’t know what to think about the feelings I’m experiencing.
Why am I staring at him? Because I’m horrified! Yes, but… that’s not it. I battle with a whirlwind of emotions as watch Shane grip Pan’s throat. Pan’s eyes were closed, his body limp, as Shane switched hands.
The hand around Pan’s face moves to the shoulder still intact and pulls it straight out, throwing the arm near the leather love seat. Pan wakes up screaming, his eyes in a crazed frenzy, his chest rapidly turning left and right.
His blood smeared around his neck and Shane leaned back to admire his handiwork. Pan’s screams turned into pleads as he begged for his life. They fell on deaf ears and my avenger turned his head towards me, his dark eyes locking on mine, looking deep, and refusing to let me go.
“No one touches you but me,” Shane said.
His voice was low, dominating, and factual. Because that was the truth, Shane wouldn’t excuse anyone for putting their hands on me and I tried hard to force out the images of Ethan’s heart in his hand.
I tightened my lips as the need to sigh in relief demanded to come out. I was more than relieved at the thought of Ethan being on Desert Moon pack lands. He had agreed to give me some time and I hoped to get this taken care of before any suspicion arose.
“Say it,” he demanded.
It didn’t matter that Pan was blubbering, his tears and snots ran down his face and dribbled over his lips. His pleading bounced off the walls in this large office. When Shane spoke he was heard.
“No one touches you but me,” I breathed.
“That’s a good girl,” he growled.
My shoulders slumped as he set his sights on Duke, confirming he was watching. When Duke nodded, Shane turned his gaze back to Pan. The hair on my arms stood on end and goosebumps spread all over as a shiver made its way down my back.
From my side, Duke was rigid. He stared at the scene in front of him, learning the lesson Shane wanted him to take from this. Without hesitation, Shane plunged his claws into Pan’s chest and I was reminded of why I was here. He stared into Pan’s eyes as the light dimmed, his body sagged, and his head fell forward.
“Have you learned your lesson, Duke? Or do I need to get started on you?” Shane asked as he threw Pan to the ground. He’d been reduced to a bag of bones and blood. Duke shook his head.
“No, Alpha. I heard you loud and clear.”
“Excellent. Now get this trash out of here,” Shane barked.
