Adea
After all, I had Alpha blood running through me too. I wasn’t used to thinking of myself as an Alpha’s daughter. It had been so long and after the way, my life had panned out after their death, it never really crossed my mind. With what I had in mind, I needed to remember who I was. If anyone could take Shane down, it would be me. The wheels started turning and an idea began to form.
From my dreams, I knew how much I hated the Moon Goddess. I didn’t know how it started or where the hate came from but when bad things happened, I blamed her. Our kind worships and revere her. She was the one who chose are mate and blessed our bloodline. In this life, I can’t think of a time when I blamed her for the things that had happened to me. Life just sucked sometimes. I didn’t think of her like a puppeteer pulling our strings.
What I did know was that fate was something we respected but in my opinion, it wasn’t absolute. If you want to change something you have to keep trying until you succeed. All I needed was to make the right choices.
With Olivia’s death, it was confirmation that parts of fate could be changed. If I did something, I didn’t do before it’s possible to alter what was destined or intended to happen.
Thinking of the beautiful sky in my dream, I wondered if there was a way for me to save everyone else. Was there a way to save any one person? Would a future still be possible for me? If not, could I ensure my loved ones had a future? I would be happy if I could just keep them safe.
The doorknob turned and I bunched up the tear-stained sheets before pulling them over my chest. The door swung open and Ethan walked in with a tray of food. I smiled at him when I noticed someone behind him. Gabe followed close behind holding a tray of drinks.
He looked pretty banged up. He still had bedhead, his eyes were bloodshot, and he was still in pajamas. It seems I’m the only one who didn’t get any sleep last night. When they both walked in, Leo closed the door.
It didn’t matter if Ethan was in the packhouse too, he had Leo guard me. Gabe yawned as he drew closer. Stifling a laugh, I smiled at my mate. He must have woken Gabe up on his way down to the kitchen. Perks for being my best friend.
Gabe didn’t say anything as he placed his tray down on the table by the bed. His eyes searched my face and he gave me a knowing smile. Walking over, he pressed a kiss to my hair and squeezed my arm.
He shot me a look that said he loves me but still wasn’t happy about being woken up early. Fighting to keep my expression neutral, I pretended I didn’t get the last half of what he said. I thanked my best friend before he turned around and made his way for the door.
“I love you, Gabe,” I said before he could walkout.
“I love you too, Ady.” He gave me a weak smile.
“Since I’m up and already at my place of employment, I’ll take over now,” Gabe said, dismissing Leo. “You can go home.”
“You sure? You can grab breakfast first if you want,” Leo said. “A few more minutes won’t kill me.” Gabe shook his head.
“I prefer not to eat right when I wake up. I’ll get something to eat when lunch rolls around.”
“Suit yourself,” Leo nodded to us before heading to his room. Gabe winked at me before closing the door.
Returning my attention to Ethan, his lips were down turned as he brought the tray of food over to me. It took me a minute to realize my mate was pouting. The big bad Alpha of The Desert Moon pack was pouting and I had an idea of why. He sat at the edge of the bed. I leaned over and poked the furrow in his forehead.
“Are you jealous of Gabe?” I asked.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You’re not jealous of me telling Gabe I love him?” I teased.
“No because I’m the only one you love,” he said simply.
“I can’t with you.” I burst out in a fit of laughter. “You’re jealous of Gabe!”
“I’m not,” Ethan said as he bit into an apple Wiping my tears, I held my belly as I laughed. When I looked up, Ethan’s eyes had softened.
“Thank you for preparing all of this,” I whispered.
“No thanks needed,” Ethan said.
Leaning in, my mate captured my lips and I kissed him back. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he growled as I deepened the kiss. The plates on the tray clattered as the bed dipped. Ethan’s hand grabbed my side to stop me.
“I never thought I’d ever tell you no but if we keep going we’re never going to leave this room. If I didn’t have to get the forested guarded today, I would say fuck it,” he said.
“I know,” I leaned in and kissed him again. “Plus, I don’t remember telling you we were going to do anything.”
His mouth opened and shut. When he opened it again, I snatched his apple and pushed it into his mouth. He grabbed it and bit a big chunk, the juice wetting his lips. He stared at me with a warning in his eye that I chose to ignore.
“I love you,” I singsonged as I picked up my fork.
“I love you too,” he said.
As soon as we were done eating, it was my turn to get ready. We took our trays down to the kitchen. The mood was light as the kitchen workers told us they could have made something. Ethan told them he wanted to make his mate breakfast in bed.
Alpha? Luna?
Yes, Beta?
Please meet me in the sitting room. I have news.
