The idea that Shane was still obsessed with me was daunting. It wasn’t news but it was worrying. Now that he had Half Moon and the rogues under his command made him a threat to us and our pack.
“I know he hasn’t given up on me,” I said.
“I do think we’re good for a few days but I don’t think he’d have the balls to attack us as his first course of action as Alpha,” Ethan said.
“Oh, he would,” I said remembering my dreams. “My dreams make so much sense now. No matter how hard I thought about it, I couldn’t figure out how he was able to attack us. Especially when the trial left him without access to his pack. I couldn’t figure out how he could attack us with the numbers that he did…”
“With his pack of rogues joining his numbers as Alpha of the Half Moon pack. He has a sizable force. We still aren’t sure how many he has under his command for now but we know it’s a hefty number. We’ve always known he was a threat but now he has the power to back it,” Ethan said.
“I don’t want to say we’re safe from him just because he’s new at being an alpha. He’s unhinged and we can’t take the chance that he’ll catch us off-guard. We need to take him seriously and be on guard at all times,” I said. I was sitting up in bed at this point. Ethan’s hand wrapped around my arm and he pulled me back to bed.
“Don’t stress about it right now, my love. It’s late and we’re both tired. We can worry about it in the morning,”
My mate said as he pulled me into his embrace. I wanted to fight him on it but decided against it. Choosing instead to lean against his chest. He was right, tomorrow was another day. These beautiful rare moments we had together were rare and few in between. I put off worrying about the threat of Shane tomorrow. Nuzzling closer, I nodded.
“You’re right,” I murmured.
“That I am,” he chuckled. I hit my wrist against his chest. “What? I don’t hear that often. I don’t think I can remember if there was ever a time you told me I was right. I’ll soak this in while I can,” he said.
“Yeah yeah yeah,” I laughed as his arms tightened around me.
“When I heard the news today, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I needed you. I needed to touch you and make sure you were okay,” he said, his voice low.
I lifted my hand to his cheek, it was my time to caress him. It was my turn to comfort him. “I’m here and I’m fine.”
He grabbed my hand and lifted it to his lips. “You’re here,” he said before he pressed a kiss to the top of my hand. We listened to the sounds of each other’s breathing. The sound of his heartbeat was the last thing I heard before I drifted off to sleep.

The sun was high in the sky as I made my way out of the packhouse. Since Leo had stayed outside our door all night, Gabe was my guard today. Leo hadn’t shown up to breakfast and I didn’t blame him. I told Gabe he should take a plate up for him but he said he was on guard duty and would stop by later to give him some food. Odis looked like he’d seen better days. He hadn’t bothered with a suit today and kept his eyes on his food. There wouldn’t be much time today and I hadn’t had a chance to talk to Gabe. The awkwardness in the air told me it would be better not to try.
Ethan had kissed me goodbye after breakfast and Gabe didn’t look in Odis’ direction when we left. Seeing my expression, my best friend linked arms with me and didn’t say anything about it. Instead, we made our way down the path in the direction of the field.
Earlier that morning, Ethan told me he would fill them in on the emergency meeting. The Deltas would be called in as well so it was easier for them to implement changes within the territories they saw over. Ethan would also be speaking with Darci about where the new warriors would be stationed.
A lot of movement is happening in our pack today. We will be ready and it gives me hope that my dream will change. Switching my focus to the training session today, I would be leading today.
Darci would be late but I would need to break everyone off into pairs after we warmed up. My body had fully healed and I was ready to get back on the field. I had my sights set on Briana and I was determined to beat her.
As if reading my mind, Gabe leaned in. “Are you ready to get your ass kicked again?” He teased. I pinched him on the arm and he cried out as we turned the corner.
“Are you ready to sweat your butt off during warm-ups?” I teased back.
The field opened up in front of us and my eyes traveled over everyone as they got ready to train.
“Have a little bit of faith in me,” I aid as I rolled my eyes. “I’m ready to divide and conquer today.”
“That’s the spirit,” he said as if he didn’t believe me. “Just make sure you remember how to tap out. Not that you’re going to get beat up but you need to make sure you don’t get to the point of no return like last time.”
“I know,” I laughed. “I won’t let it get that bad again.”
For the warm-up, Gabe and I ran laps around the field. He hates running the most but didn’t say anything. Usually, I leave him in the dust but today he pushed forward and kept up with me. He said he had a lot to get out of his system.
