Jaxon entered the room and looked at both her and Kim. It took him only several seconds to react and he rushed up to Ruby with worry etched in his features.
He hadn’t paid Kim any mind and she thought of how shamelessly he could act in front of her like he hadn’t just gotten her sister pregnant.
“Ruby, what is it? Why are you crying?” He asked her but she could only glare back at him in return. She had been crying over him since she found out and the least he could do was be honest with her. Instead, here he was, acting like nothing had happened.
She wondered how she hadn’t noticed any signs when she had been living under the same roof. The thought of her sister being her husband’s mistress left a bitter taste in her mouth.
“Ruby say something, what is it? You know you can talk to me.” Jaxon said softly then made a show of trying to take her into his arms. She exploded at that, not wanting his filthy hands to touch her.
“Don’t touch me!” She told him fiercely, and she prided herself on how firm her voice had come out.
She wasn’t such a crybaby now she thought, despite the fact tears still rushed down her cheeks.
Jaxon looked at her with wide eyes, obviously shocked at her outburst. Her nostrils flared at the audacity. He had to look surprised, like he didn’t know what was happening. Jaxon glanced between her and Kim, then back again.
” You, you did something didn’t you?” Jaxon pointed at Kim annoyed, but Kim only smiled. Kim glanced at her briefly before her eyes settled wholly on Jaxon.
“You’re going to be a father Jaxon, I’m pregnant with our baby,” Kim told him then made a show of putting her hands on her still invisible bump.
“What did you say?” Jaxon asked Kim in disbelief.
“Don’t play dumb now, I’m carrying our baby. You do know how they are formed right?” Kim said again and Ruby couldn’t help feeling that the last statement was directed at her to make her feel worse than she already was.
A new wave of tears, hot and angry, flowed down her cheeks in fast streams and blurred her vision. Her eyes hurt from all the crying she’d been doing and she had no doubt that they had gone all red and puffy.
“How could you do this to me Jaxon? How could you betray me with my sister of all people?” She accused him.
She watched as he turned to her and gave her a quizzical look.
“You think I betrayed you?” He said slowly and she inhaled.
“If you didn’t, how else could Kim have gotten pregnant, huh?” She asked him as a wave of anger washed over her.
“She’s not lying either because there is evidence that it’s true.” She told him, then pointed to the ground where the report had been discarded.
Jaxon bent and picked it up, then eyed the report as he read the content of it. Two minutes later, he let it go and Ruby watched as the piece of paper floated back to the ground.
“Ruby, I-”
“Don’t say my name then start giving excuses. You’re just a cheat, Jaxon. That’s what you are.” She let out as tears clogged her throat and made it difficult for her to speak.
“You’re a backstabber, a cheat, and a dirtbag who broke my heart.” She flung at him. She’d let him break her heart, she thought sadly.
“Did you even think what this might mean for us and our relationship?” She asked him.
“Say something Jaxon.” She whispered when she noticed that he just stared at her with an unreadable expression on his face.
“I can’t believe that you think that I’m a cheat and that I would stoop so low as to cheat on you.” He told her calmly. Ruby looked at him surprised. She had expected him to say a lot of things but that wasn’t one of them.
She had thought he would try to get her to understand or something of that nature, but instead, he was playing the guilt train.
“This isn’t my fault, Jaxon, and don’t try to make it seem like I was unfair to you.” She fired at him.
“The evidence is glaring enough and I don’t need you to insult my intelligence.”
“So you think I cheated because your sister said so and a piece of paper confirmed that she’s pregnant?” Jaxon asked her, unimpressed.
She was tired of him, tired of Kim, and tired of the situation in total.
“You know what, I’m done with this conversation.” She let out and turned to leave, but he pulled her back and held onto her shoulders.
“Like hell, we’re done with this. You didn’t even give me a chance to explain my side of things.” He told her.
“Okay, explain yourself then.” She let out. She wanted to see what story he would cook up.
“I never slept with Kim,” he started. She rolled her eyes, here we go.
“Would you listen without judging for a moment?” He told her as he lightly shook her shoulders. “I’ll try.” She gritted out.
“I didn’t sleep with Kim, and I never will. I’ve never even looked at her that way. Why would I stoop so low to sleep with a whore when I have the perfect woman by my side? I don’t do whores who throw themselves at any man who has money.” Jaxon explained and Ruby didn’t know what to believe. At least one of them was lying to her and she absolutely hated that they thought they could fool her.
“If you didn’t sleep with Kim, then who did sleep with her?”
“The driver did.” He stated and Ruby blinked. The story was getting more absurd as time passed. Now there was a driver in the mix.
“You’re telling me that she slept with your driver?” She asked to make sure she had heard him properly.
“Yes.”
“And how did the driver even enter into the equation?” The more she heard, the more she got confused.
“I sent him to do it.” He stated without offering further explanation. And frankly, she didn’t really care anymore.
“The bottom line is, I’m not the father of Kim’s baby. I’m also disappointed that you would believe such horrible things about me without talking to me first.” Jaxon said then let go of her shoulders abruptly.
