Jaxon’s eyebrows were creased in concentration as he gently picked up a sleeping Ruby out of the car. He didn’t want to hurt her injured leg, so he slowly walked with her in his arms.
Ruslan opened the door to the house, and Ruby squirmed from the small sound that the door made, and Jaxon glared at Ruslan, who lowered his head in guilt.
Ruby slowly opened her eyes and wrapped her arms around Jaxon’s chest, he looked down at her in his arms and smiled softly.
Jaxon walked into the living room and gently placed her on the couch. He positioned her to lie down properly and sat beside her.
Jaxon was worried and Ruby could tell from how tenderly he played with her hair. His eyes were fixed on her face for any sign of discomfort and Ruby softly smiled up at him.
“How are you feeling now Gem? Do you need anything?” Jaxon asked as he moved to the foot of the couch and placed her uninjured leg on his lap.
He started to gently massage her legs and a soft moan escaped her lips at the soothing feeling. She was enjoying how he gently loosened all the tension in her legs.
Kim heard the sound of the car parking and had hurriedly dressed up to impress thinking Jaxon was back home alone.
She happily skipped down the stairs to welcome him when she stumbled upon them in the living room.
Kim’s eyes dimmed and her smile faltered as she glared at the couple. She had wanted to use the opportunity to get closer to Jaxon but her plan has been ruined.
Kim internally screamed in annoyance as she watched them interact so sweetly.
“I’m feeling hungry babe,” Ruby whispered.
Jaxon smiled as he placed her feet on the couch and made his way into the kitchen.
He rummaged through the fridge and brought out ingredients for a banana smoothie. He blended all the ingredients and served it in a glass cup.
Jaxon came back into the room and placed the glass on the table. He helped Ruby to sit up and took the cup of smoothie. He held it to her lips and watched as she sipped from the straw.
Jaxon kept holding the cup for her until she took the last drop. Kim was watching them in contempt from the other end of the room without saying a word.
While everything was going on, Jaxon could feel her eyes following his every move, but he ignored it.
He wanted to focus solely on Ruby to make sure that she was not uncomfortable in any way or form. He was still troubled about how the accident happened, and even though he had his suspicions, he couldn’t just act on it until he confirmed everything.
“Thank you.” Ruby smiled up at him and Jaxon gave her one in return. He placed the cup back on the table and pecked her lips.
“That was just your appetizer Gem, I hope you have space for food because I ordered some takeouts.” Ruby’s eyes widened as she stared at his serious face.
She has never been one to eat a lot of food. All she needed was a few bites of rich drink to get all filled up.
“No excuses, Gem, you have to eat. You heard what the doctor said about eating healthy and nutritious meals from now on.” Ruby groaned.
Right on time, Ruslan entered with a couple of bags and placed them on the table. Jaxon changed his sitting position and sat In Front of Ruby.
“Bring them out of the bags and pass me the plate of soup.” Ruslan did as instructed.
Jaxon started feeding Ruby the soup and she happily ate it without complaints. She knew that Jaxon was serious about following the doctor’s instructions until she felt better.
Kim scowled as she watched Ruby’s happy smile while she ate the soup that Jaxon was feeding her and her hands clenched into fists. It should be her getting treated with so much love and attention and not Ruby.
Jaxon scooped another spoonful and brought it to her lips, but Ruby rejected it. Jaxon silently placed the plate back on the table and brought a bottle of water to her lips. Ruby drank the water and smiled at Jaxon.
Jaxon smiled softly as he stood up and leaned down to pick her up princess-style. Ruby wrapped her arms around his neck and Jaxon passed Kim without saying a word as he climbed the stairs up to their room.
He gently placed Ruby on the bed, and after making sure that she was comfortable, he placed a small peck on her forehead and laid down beside her.
Ruby pouted and made grabby hands at Jaxon like a child who wanted their favorite toy. Jaxon grinned as he adjusted himself so she could cuddle into his body without harming her broken leg.
“How did oil make its way to the stairs Gem?” Jaxon asked as he softly ran his hand through the strands of her hair.
Ruby’s breath hitched as she recalled how she slipped and painfully rolled down the stairs.
“I don’t know.” Ruby’s voice was filled with confusion as she said this. She had also thought about this severally but she couldn’t come up with an answer. She didn’t understand how oil got on the stairs when it was looking spotless earlier.
“Do you think Kim has a hand in it?” Jaxon asked seriously and Ruby gasped.
“No. Why would she do that?” Ruby defended. She knew that Kim was childish and annoying but she didn’t have it in her to knowingly cause harm to another person. What reason does she have to harm her?
“But you have never had any accidents until she started living with us, and there is no way that any of the workers here will pour oil on the stairs because they are not even allowed to go upstairs without permission.” Jaxon reasoned.
Ruby shook her head in denial. She believes that it was all an accident and she doubts all the facts that Jaxon was placing before her.
“I’m certain it is just an accident, maybe one of the workers went up and mistakenly poured the oil while rushing off when they heard me approaching.” Jaxon sighed and stared at her in confusion. He couldn’t understand why she kept on defending Kim.
“Why do you trust your sister so much?” Jaxon asked.
“Because she is my sister. She is the only family I have left and I trust her with my life. She can never cause any harm to me and I’m sure what happened was just an accident. Stop overthinking things please.” Ruby pleaded with him in a low voice.
