They came back home and after freshening up they were both in the living room cuddled up on the couch watching an action movie that Ruby randomly picked off Netflix.
She hugged Jaxon tightly as he played with her soft locs. He loved how soft her hair was and enjoyed playing with it. He didn’t know why but he felt calm whenever he played with her hair.
Ruby’s mind was filled up with all that transpired that evening. She couldn’t get herself to focus on the movie or the soft touches of Jaxon.
She knew she had every right to be angry but she still felt bad looking at things from Jaxon and Keith’s perspective.
It’s reasonable that they all thought she ran out of fear since it was a well-known fact that she had always been an ordinary girl who hated drama and crowds.
She felt bad and squirmed in Jaxon’s Embrace.
“Is everything okay Gem?” Jaxon whispered softly.
“I just feel so bad about what happened at the party today,” Ruby replied sadly.
“I already told you it’s fine Ruby. Just forget it ever happened.”
“I’m sorry I made you look bad in front of everyone…” Jaxon used his hands to raise her head and stared directly into her eyes.
“It was an accident that could happen to anyone Ruby, you don’t need to keep apologizing like this. It’s all the past now.” Jaxon cupped her cheeks and pecked her nose.
Ruby’s face lit up as she smiled shyly.
“I still feel bad for disappointing Keith,” Ruby mumbled.
“Keith is not disappointed Ruby, he is just sad because he thinks you didn’t want to celebrate him… he is not mad at you and he will come around sooner than you think.” Jaxon pecked her lips and started rocking her like a child.
Ruby sighed as she hugged him tightly. “I hope so.” She whispered.
She tried to get some sleep but she couldn’t. She groaned as her troubled mind kept bringing up problem after problem making her mood dampen.
Ruby has been thinking about their contract for some time now and the more the end draws nearer the more worried she becomes.
She didn’t know what would happen afterward. Would Jaxon terminate the contract and remain married to her or would he send her away?
Her heart ached as she thought about how painful her life would be without him. She was utterly in love with him and couldn’t imagine being away from him.
How was she supposed to live her life after the contract ended?
She had waited for Jaxon to bring up the topic but it has been months now and he hasn’t said a single word about it.
She didn’t know where they stood or if they were even in a relationship to begin with.
Their marriage was a contract. It was supposed to be like any other business transaction but her feelings for Jaxon had ruined everything. Did he love her as much as she loved him? Did he even care?
So many negative thoughts filled her head and Ruby like she might start crying at any moment.
Ruby was filled with doubts as she thought about how Jaxon treated her before their relationship got physical. He hated her guts so why did she delude herself into thinking he would ever love her?
Ruby was sure Jaxon didn’t even care about her, maybe that was the only reason why he was having all this sex. Why else would he give her birth control pills?
If he really wanted to keep her as his wife he would allow her to carry his kids but he gave her the pills to make sure she didn’t get pregnant so he could throw her out once the contract was over.
Ruby felt like her heart was being ripped out of her chest and cut into pieces with a blunt knife. How could she be so stupid to think that Jaxon loved her when he had so many beautiful and influential women offering themselves to him?
Why did she deceive herself into thinking she was special to him? She was very sure that he would wake up the next day and happily throw her out of his house and life.
No! Ruby’s mind screamed
“I need to leave with the little dignity I have left before he throws me out himself.” Ruby thought bitterly.
She removed her hands from around Jaxon and tapped his chest.
“Can you let me go, please? I have something to take care of inside,” Ruby whispered.
Jaxon nodded and loosened his hold around her. Ruby felt like screaming at him.
She wanted him to hold onto her tighter and say he would never let her go. Why did he release her so easily? Did she really mean nothing to him?
Her eyes started to burn with tears and she hurriedly stood up from his body. She turned away from him and ran up the stairs to her room.
Ruby locked the door and leaned on it.
Her heart clenched in pain as all the sweet memories they shared started playing in her mind. Was Jaxon willing to let go of all this? Did he ever care?
Ruby placed her head on her lap and started crying.
Heart-wrenching sobs tore out of her lips as her whole body shook while she cried.
She remained in that position for about thirty minutes before she weakly stood up and walked into her closet.
She ran her hand across all the beautiful dresses, shoes, and bags as she thought about the memories they had created with each item.
She took a black duffel bag and started packing, she picked up a beautiful floral gown and tears streamed down her face as she remembered their dinner date back in Russia, it was the gown she wore that day.
She smiled sadly in between her crying and packed about three other dresses. She picked up two shoes and a single bag.
She would be going back to her normal life now, she didn’t need designer clothes anymore.
