Chapter 32
Ruby watched in disbelief as Jaxon expertly chopped and sauteed, his movements fluid and sure.
Who knew he had a hidden talent? Maybe there was more to him than just a pretty face, a muscular physique, and a sharp tongue.
She emptied the contents in the glass as she slowly dropped the cup on the table.
Then she began to watch Jaxon as he cooked.
He looked so serious and from the smell filling her nose, she could tell that whatever he was cooking was going to be a blast.
Finally, he was done.
The dish looked absolutely mouth-watering, and the scent wafting from it was heavenly.
But more than the food, it was the look on Jaxon’s face that captured Ruby’s attention.
There was a sense of pride and accomplishment in his expression that she hadn’t seen before, a side to him that she found unexpectedly intriguing.
“Well?” Jaxon asked, placing the dish in front of her.
Ruby picked up her fork and took a bite, her eyes widening in surprise.
As Ruby took the first bite, her taste buds erupted with a mix of flavors.
The dish, it turned out, was a savory Chicken Cacciatore, made with tender, juicy chicken thighs simmered in a rich tomato sauce with peppers, onions, and herbs.
The aroma was irresistible, the flavors perfectly balanced, and the texture just the right amount of tender and juicy.
Ruby’s expression said it all. “Wow,” she breathed, her eyes locked on Jaxon.
“I had no idea you could cook like this. This is…amazing.” She blurted out as Jaxon only nodded at her.
“Aren’t you going to eat?” She asked and her eyes lit up as he was about to walk away.
“No” he replied as Ruby mouthed an oh’ he was back to the Cold Jaxon.
“But I really think you should eat something. I doubt you’ve eaten anything for dinner. You made it, so it’s only right you eat” She smiled at him trying to sound persuasive.
He really liked being difficult, all he had to do now was sit his ass down and eat!!
Jaxon stared at how for a long time as his jaw worked. He was not really used to eating with someone. He had most of his meals alone and was comfortable that way.
“Please” Ruby added in a low voice.
Jaxon went back to the kitchen and he soon arrived with his own plate of food.
“I’ll get water” Ruby announced gingerly as she made her way to stand up from the couch.
She dropped her plate on a table as she quickly went to get water for the both of them.
“This is really nice Jaxon, I swear to God..” She groaned, taking a big bite of her chicken.
His chicken cacciatore was far more better than hers, in every way possible.
“If not that I saw you making this, I would never have thought that you cooked this, I mean it’s you..” She drew out as her eyes settled on Jaxon who just ate his meal quietly and elegantly.
She bit her lips hard, maybe she was doing too much. Ruby thought to herself. She was acting like she’d never tasted a delicious meal. Well, she was just overwhelmed.
“What happened to me?” Jaxon grilled and the corner of his lips curled up.
“Well,” Ruby began as she cleared her throat.
“You are proud, and arrogant, you act like Mr perfect. I literally thought that you were just an over-pampered heir, pardon my words..” she apologized and she chuckled sheepishly.
Jaxon laughed softly, shaking his head in amusement.
Ruby literally had to blink her eyes repeatedly to make sure she saw right.
Jaxon laughed. That was definitely a new one.
“There’s more than the eye meets Ruby..” He deadpanned, the smile was gone from his face as it was replaced with his usual cold expression.
The shift in his demeanor was almost palpable, the air between them suddenly charged with tension.
Ruby swallowed hard, a tingle of anticipation creeping up her spine.
“Jaxon,” she began, her voice barely above a whisper. “What do you mean?”
Jaxon’s eyes bored into hers, his gaze intense and unwavering.
“I mean that I’m not just the pampered heir you think I am,” he deadpanned, his voice low and serious.
Ruby swallowed deep as she watched him stand up from the chair with a plate in his hands.
She watched as he silently walked to the kitchen sink, to wash the plates which he used in eating.
After he was done, he went back to his former spot and began to work on his laptop again.
That was the end of their conversation. He was back to the old snobbish Jaxon.
Ruby smiled to herself as she sat up from her chair as well. She was done eating and wanted to retire to bed.
After washing her plate and rinsing the cup which she used. She decided to thank Jaxon again.
“Thanks, Jaxon,” she said to him as she stood not too far away from him.
“Good night” His voice was quite inaudible but she heard what he said.
“Good night” she wished before heading upstairs to retire for the night.
Once Jaxon sensed that Ruby was gone, he abruptly closed his laptop and he smacked his lips.
“Fuck” He cursed inwardly and he exhaled sharply as he ran his hands through his hair.
