Ryan’s p. o. v
“You are lame.” I mind linked Evan while I was driving.
“Why are you saying that?” He asked through our mind link.
“You have not spoken a word to our mate for almost half an hour. You are just looking at her like a weirdo.” I answered.
“That’s because I’m mesmerized by her beauty.” He said shamelessly.
“Good way to make her uncomfortable.” I mocked and then parked the car at the side of the road when I saw a huge tree with yellowish leaves ahead of us. It looked exactly as they had described.
“We are here.” I said softly then glanced at the rearview mirror.
Lexi looked at me with a smile then she lowered her gaze to her purse which was set on her lap.
She was usually talkative around us but this time it was different, while I was driving she was quietly looking at the window every few minutes and that bothered me.
“Was she unhappy over something?” I wondered.
I got out of the car and quickly went to her door, opening it for her.
“Here my lady.” I said softly while extending my hand to her.
“Thank you.” She answered, then took it and came out.
“This way.” I whispered then walked past the tree with her, leaving Evan to close the doors and lock the car.
“How are you feeling?” I asked softly in concern as we walked in a small path covered with brown leaves.
The place was surrounded by trees but according to Uncle, there was a beautiful place ahead right after a stream.
“I’m okay, I’m just kind of nervous.” She answered.
I gave her hand a tight squeeze then leaned in and looked at her beautiful face.
She stopped walking then smiled at me.
“What?” She asked.
“There is nothing to be nervous of. You know us and we know you. You love us and we love you. You look amazing and we want you to relax as well as enjoy your birthday okay.” I said in a low assuring tone.
“Okay.” She answered.
I leaned in and kissed her lips lightly then pulled back and continued to walk ahead.
When we saw a stream and a small bridge covered with rose white petals on the ground leading to the other side, we stopped for a minute.
“Wow, it’s beautiful.” She whispered softly.
I chuckled then tagged her hand a bit.
“Come on.” I said softly then went to the bridge and began crossing.
She pulled her hand and rushed to my side to look at the two small blue birds with golden wings which were chirping on a rock.
“I have seen a lot of birds where I grew up but I have never seen one with golden wings.” She said in a loud tone.
“Me too.” I said honestly then looked ahead with a frown. I could pick up a warrior scent. Although his scent was faint I knew he was from our territory.
“Let’s go.” I said then linked her hand to mine.
As we moved I couldn’t help but smirk.
August and Uncle really outdid themselves with the place.
Right after the bridge was a red carpet leading to a gazebo.
A clothed table was set with three chairs around it. Below was a cooler and a covered large basket.
A fluffy white mat was spread on the whole floor and on that table was a set of covered empty glass plates, wine glasses turned upside down and a vase of red roses set between.
A few meters away was a large red couch which looked comfy and on it was a guitar and a white blanket. Next to it stood a warrior with a phone in his hand.
I looked the other side and noticed three bicycles under a large tree. Next to those bicycles was a black mat with painting tools wrapped in a see-through wrapper.
I was dying to know how the hell they managed to set everything up. No one could manage to fix everything in just a few hours, the only logical explanation was that the place had been there for a very long time.
“Be alert brother, there is a warrior waiting for us.” I mind linked Evan when we reached where the man was standing.
“Good day.” He greeted us.
“Good day.” I answered with a frown then wrapped my arm around Lexi’s waist.
“Why are you here?” I asked seriously.
“I was ordered by the beta to wait here for you. He wanted me to hand over this phone. You can call and confirm with him if you think I’m suspicious.” He answered.
I grabbed the phone then raised a brow.
“Leave and tell him thanks.” I ordered.
“Okay.” He answered, then walked past us and went to the bridge.
Evan looked at him from head to toe then walked past him without a word.
“Come.” I whispered to Lexi then walked with her to the table and pulled out a chair.
“Here, please take a seat.” I said.
“Thank you.” She answered and sat down.
“Sorry I stayed back a bit.” Evan said when he reached us.
“It’s fine.” Lexi answered after he had pulled out a chair for himself and sat down.
“Please excuse me for a second.”
I said then walked to the bridge. I stood there and pressed the phone looking at the contact list. Only one number was available which I wasted no time to dial.
“Hello.” August’s voice came through.
“I don’t trust you.” I said honestly.
“Is that your way of saying thank you?” He asked.
“No.” I answered.
“Well you are welcome and do enjoy yourselves. The food is in the basket as well as the cutlery, you will also find a few fruits and snacks in there. In the cooler there are two bottles of wine and one bottle of champagne. Oh, there is also a pack of beer and a few bottles of water. I’m sure you have already seen the guitar, play it for her and cover her up if she gets cold. As for the painting tools I’m sure you have seen, that’s my birthday gift to her, I hope she likes them.” He said as I yawned. He was boring me to death with his words.
“That place belonged to our late Alpha king. No one can come there without a high rank’s approval, so you are safe.” He said.
I was grateful for everything at the same time fucking pissed off because everything looked perfect.
“Cut the call while I’m still not pissed.” I said as he laughed softly.
“You called me, remember?” He asked.
“Yeah.” I answered, then threw the phone in the water and went back.
I chuckled softly when I reached and pulled out a chair. Evan was already setting the table while Lexi sat there watching his every move with a smile.
He really was trying so hard to impress our mate but who was I to judge, because I too was doing the same.
