“Alpha.” Blade called softly behind me while I walked back to my bedroom.
I had to get the fuck out of that basement because it was hard to watch Neo crying like a little kid and Sherry screaming out in pain and begging him to take back his rejection. It was a mess that I didn’t want to involve myself in.
“Alpha.” He called again, this time a little louder.
I stopped and turned to face him.
“I understand that our Beta did betray you for his mate, but we all know how most pack members of other packs act towards their mates. He was under an influence of love and submission to her that’s why he did all that. Neo and I never saw eye to eye at times, but when it came to you he had no reason to question nor doubt you, he was even willing to give his life for you.” He said as I raised a brow.
“So?. What the fuck do you want me to do?” I asked coldly.
“Please, allow me to go in search of a witch. He won’t last long with the Otis he has consumed…., and the rejection will make it even worse. ” He answered in a low tone.
“No.” I said strongly.
He frowned deep then lowered his gaze to the ground.
“That won’t be necessary because he only has consumed whiskey mixed with wolfbane.” I answered as he quickly looked up and met my eyes.
“You….” He trailed off.
“Despite me wanting him dead, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. No matter what, he will always be my brother.” I answered honestly then cleared my throat.
“Seclude him from that bitch and put him in another room. Also, make sure to have him locked up in that room and have one of the warriors guard the door.” I said as I turned and continued to walk.
“Thank you.” I heard him whisper softly then sigh in relief.
Why the hell was I growing soft-hearted in just a short time? My emotions were getting in my way and I found myself allowing my heart to make the decisions rather than my head!
“Fuck.” I muttered to myself while I walked into my bedroom.
I stood still near the entrance and looked at Nana who was walking back and forth in my room.
I closed the door behind me and approached her.
“What now?” I asked lazily.
“Is it true?” She asked with emphasis.
“What is, exactly?” I asked back.
“Is it true that you have imprisoned Neo and that you gave him whiskey mixed with Otis?” She asked on top of her voice.
I sighed loudly then moved my hand to my forehead rubbing there a few times.
“News does travel fast.” I murmured to myself.
“You aren’t denying it!” She exclaimed.
“Look Nana, I don’t know if you know this or you don’t, but Neo betrayed me with Sherry and nearly killed me, their punishment should be death!” I answered loudly.
“No, you can’t be responding to bad for bad, it doesn’t work like that.” She said angrily.
I slowly folded my arms in disbelief and looked at her seriously.
What the hell was she talking about? Did she mean my life was irrelevant?
“Nana, are you forgetting who you are talking to right now?” I asked loudly.
“I know who you are Ian, but what I won’t do is sit back and let you kill Neo.” She answered, shocking me.
I dropped my hands and took in a deep breath then released it.
“You have no say in my pack.” I pointed out.
“I do.” She spat, making me chuckle mockingly.
“Has power gotten to your damn old head? You are nothing but a caretaker of things in this pack, yes I do respect you a lot because you raised me well and acted like my mother, but besides that, you have no power over my pack nor any say. So please get the fuck out of my room.” I said seriously.
“I didn’t act like I was your mother alpha. I am your mother.” She answered as I shook my head.
Yes, yes. I understood what she meant because she usually made sure to let me know how it didn’t matter if I wasn’t blood-related to her, because to her I was her son no matter what.
“Nana, I’m seriously not in the mood of exchanging words with you right now, so can you please leave?” I asked seriously then moved to sit on the bed.
She was slowly pissing me off with her words.
“That man you gave Otis is your brother, how could you be unbothered when he is dying in that basement?” She asked loudly.
“He betrayed me first okay, him facing a death penalty is his punishment.” I answered with emphasis.
“Release him.” She ordered seriously as I tensed.
My heart instantly picked up and my breath began to slightly get labored.
“Do release your brother now. He will die, Ian, he won’t make it with Otis in his blood.” She whispered with a cracked voice.
I slightly turned and looked at her, tears were rolling on her cheeks and that made me feel bad. Keeping the truth from her wasn’t a good idea I guess, she needed to know that it wasn’t Otis I had given him but wolfbane.
“Nana…..”
“Neo is my biological son.” She said as I instantly sprang from the bed.
“What?” I asked on top of my voice.
“He is just like you are Ian. I have said it a thousand times but you never realized that I really meant my words when I said I was your mother and Neo is your brother.” She answered.
I froze in the moment and everything seemed to stop.
I could see her saying something and lifting her hands but I couldn’t hear a thing.
She moved closer and touched my shoulder gently.
“I really wanted to tell you from the very beginning but I couldn’t, your father wouldn’t let me.”
Her voice came through.
“Wha… t?” I asked in a cracked voice.
“I really wanted to, believe me.” She said seriously.
I slowly moved her hand and pushed her away slightly with laughter.
“Come on Nana, there is a limit to how low you can stoop. I didn’t notice this before, but now I can see that you are so captivated by him, are you perhaps fucking him, because…..”
I swallowed my words when a hard slap touched my cheek.
The sound echoed in the room as the pain spread throughout my body.
I was in shock while I moved my hand to my cheek.
“She slapped me. Nana had slapped me.”
That’s all that went through my mind.
Even when I was growing up and did all sorts of troublesome things, there was never a day she had raised her hand on me.
“How many times will I tell you this damn brat! I am your biological mother and that boy in there is your damn biological brother!” She yelled on top of her voice as her tears continued to fall.
