Chapter 15

Book:The abandoned wife Published:2024-10-15

William Reid didn’t come to find me again.
Maybe my words had really affected him.
But he still didn’t release me; I remained locked up, receiving meals on time every day.
On the fifth day of staying in the villa, I was eager to find a way to escape.
I couldn’t sleep in the same bed and live with someone I had once truly loved.
I pried open the window, jumped into the garden, and took down several guards watching me.
However, just as I was about to climb over the wall to leave, I saw Max Thomson outside.
He stood with his arms crossed, his dark eyes playful and thick with intrigue, a smile curling at the corners of his lips as he watched me intently.
Seeing him, my movements froze, my heart skipped a beat.
I then leaped down without saying a word.
He saw me jump down, and the smile on his lips widened.
“Today is the fifth day. If you don’t come out, I was ready to go in and grab you.”
I glanced at his shoulder:
“Is your injury healed?”
His gaze remained fixed on my face. “Just a minor injury.”
I looked around; there wasn’t a soul outside the villa.
But I could sense some movement in the bushes.
It was Max Thomson’s men.
This was C City, his territory.
Even though William Reid had taken advantage of the situation to steal me away.
Five days was enough time for Max Thomson to take his revenge.
It seemed that in the past couple of days, William Reid hadn’t shown up either to deal with these matters.
Noticing my silence, Max Thomson suddenly took my hand.
The emotion in his eyes intensified, as if he wanted to engrave my image in his mind.
“I stood here waiting for you every day.”
“I thought you would never come out again.”
Though he smiled, his voice carried a hint of grievance.
Seeing him like this, my heart, which had been shattered by William Reid, seemed to heal little by little.
“Since I’ve already left, I won’t go back.”
“Is William Reid in your hands? Don’t let him die.”
Hearing my satisfactory answer, Max Thomson tightened his grip on my hand:
“Don’t worry; I just beat him up and took care of the rest of his men.”
“As long as he doesn’t try to take your heart again, I won’t do anything to him.”
I nodded, and at that moment, the previously gloomy sky suddenly cleared.
Sunlight streamed down, bathing Max Thomson’s shoulders, as if he were wrapped in a golden light, making him seem warmer.
I suddenly asked:
“Can your business be cleaned up? I don’t want to live like this forever.”
He seemed to have heard something unbelievable and took a while to respond.
His eyes filled with surprise as he grabbed my other hand:
“Amber, does this mean what I think it does?”
Saying that, he didn’t wait for me to reply and continued:
“Sure, sure, sure! As long as you want, I’m willing to do anything!”
His words reminded me of my past self.
As long as William Reid wanted, I would also do anything.
So I knew it was deep love.
Looking at his surprised expression, I suddenly felt that this wasn’t so bad.
My feelings for him shifted from half liking and half disliking to a bit more liking.
Letting him hold my hand, I smiled.
The sun was out.
It was time for me to step out and move toward a brighter future.
