“Come here and see! This woman is shamelessly threatening my daughter!”
Katie Baker followed along, saying, “Cooper, even if you’re at fault, just apologize. We’re not unreasonable people.”
Please, who exactly is being unreasonable here?
I didn’t respond, holding the girl’s hand. “Since Anders helped you, and now he’s being misunderstood, shouldn’t we bravely stand up for him?”
The girl blinked her eyes, and soon she made up her mind.
“Anders didn’t hit me!”
“I said he helped me get the bug off my face!”
Her voice wasn’t loud, but everyone present heard it.
“Why didn’t you say that earlier?”
“I did, but you didn’t believe me!”
The girl’s parent turned pale with anger, scooping her up and leaving.
“You not only misunderstood my son but also pointed fingers at him. If you don’t apologize to him today, each one of you will receive a court summons tomorrow!”
Katie Baker bit her lip and reluctantly apologized.
The others started to slip away, but that was fine; people must pay for their actions.
After this farce ended, the slap mark on Anders’s face had disappeared.
I wanted to take him for a check-up, but Anders refused.
“Dad’s a doctor anyway; it’ll be the same when he gets off work.”
“I learned how to make tomato rib soup from the recipe today, and I’ll cook tonight!”
Anders was like a little sun, bursting with endless energy.
I felt a warmth in my heart and pinched his cheek. “Okay.”
However, while the soup was still simmering on the stove, something happened to Anders.
“So tonight, the one who needs surgery is Anders?”
Larry Tate’s sudden question caught me off guard.
“You can’t be unaware of this, right?”
“I thought Anders just needed me to check on him.”
Larry Tate frowned and turned to look at Katie Baker.
“Didn’t you say the one who needed surgery tonight was the one who hit you today?”
“You said you just lightly hit him; he’s just trying to extort money.”
“Why is it Anders who needs surgery instead of him, after you let him suffer a little longer?”
Katie Baker immediately softened her voice and began to cry.
“Today, at the after-school program, I pulled Anders away, but he still wanted to hit me, so I hit him back.”
“I swear I didn’t hit him hard; I don’t know why it’s so serious.”
Perhaps Katie Baker cried too hard afterward, as Larry Tate pulled her into his arms to comfort her.
“Did you hear that? It’s Anders’s fault.”
“When he wakes up, he needs to apologize to Katie Baker.”
