“Hollie, rest assured, this time it was Laura’s fault. I’ve severely punished her for three days now, and she will definitely give you a proper apology.”
I never expected to see Simon Smith again, especially in my current state as a ghost. Yes, I died. I was suffocated to death, locked in the trunk of the car by my husband. And at this moment, he is still completely unaware, continuing to comfort his first beloved.
“It’s okay, this can’t entirely be blamed on Laura. It’s just a pity that the handbag was a nationwide limited edition…” Hollie lowered her head, looking as if she was about to cry.
The man beside her was distressed and quickly comforted her in a low voice. Once she fell asleep, Simon got up and, like he was handling a treasure, gently kissed her forehead.
Then he turned and left the room, his face instantly darkening. “She still refuses to admit her mistake?”
The “she” Simon referred to was, of course, me-his lawfully wedded wife, his partner of ten years.
The person assigned to watch over me stammered, “Yes… Mrs. Smith is still being stubborn.”
Bullshit! What a lie. Simon had ordered them to watch my every move and bring me meals every day, while he was out traveling with Hollie. The people assigned to watch me already knew very well that in Simon’s mind, I was long forgotten. So for the next three days, no one checked on me.
After the person answered, Simon did not notice anything unusual.
“Take me to see her. I want to see what kind of tricks she’s playing now.”
—
Three days ago, we arrived in the capital. I was driving, with Simon and Hollie in the backseat.
Since it was my first time in the capital and I was unfamiliar with the roads, I followed the GPS and ended up taking the wrong route. By the time we arrived at the mall, the limited-edition handbag had already been bought by someone else.
Simon was furious. “Don’t you know how much Hollie loves that bag? I think you did this on purpose!”
A stinging slap landed on my face. I was just about to explain when Hollie interrupted, gently consoling Simon. “Darling, don’t be angry. It’s just a handbag, and Laura didn’t do it on purpose. Please don’t argue because of me. Although this handbag was very meaningful to me, what’s done is done. Next time, we just won’t let her drive.”
Though she seemed to be defending me, every word subtly blamed me. As she spoke, her eyes reddened.
“It was you who…”
“Enough! Laura, isn’t Hollie pitiful enough? Even jealousy has its limits!” Simon rebuked me before I could finish, shielding Hollie behind him, looking at me as if I were his enemy. But I was his wife!
That night, I booked a separate room for myself and cried all night. Until there was a knock on the door. Simon came in with a bottle of red wine. I thought he had come to apologize, considering we’d been married for ten years and shared some kind of affection. But I overestimated my place in his heart. After drinking the wine, I became dizzy.
He coldly tied me up and threw me into the trunk of the car, his eyes full of disgust and frost. “You knew how much Hollie had been looking forward to this day, yet out of jealousy, you ruined her mood for the entire day.”
“If you are this vicious, don’t blame me for being cruel.”
The trunk was cramped, and I was forcibly stuffed inside, my eyes blindfolded. As soon as the darkness surrounded me, my breathing became rapid, and cold sweat soaked my body. I have claustrophobia, and Simon knew that.
He wanted me dead!
