Dante’s POV
“How about…”
The phone call ended and the line went dead. I was enraged and slammed my fist on the desk in
my office, narrowly missing my phone and the possibility of me smashing it to smithereens.
My fingers flexed in and out of a fist. I couldn’t believe that she was the one talking to me like
that.
I bit my lower lip in anger.
The nerve! She should have been mine! She ‘is’ mine! That bastard didn’t deserve her!
I slammed my fist again and the wood made a noise. The timber was protesting but I didn’t care.
I sat back in my chair and remembered the way that she was defending him at the airport. The
defiance in her voice.
The kiss!
She kissed him right in front of me! I saw the way his arms were wrapped around her waist. He
groaned like he owned her.
That bastard!
The door clicked open.
“Robert?”
My Beta stood at the door with files in his hand.
“Should I make a call to preorder a new desk? With the way that you’re going, I don’t expect this
one to last very long.”
He walked in ans and placed the papers on my desk and he took a seat in the empty chair.
“You won’t understand, Robert.”
“Ahh, yes. Of course, I won’t. I’m married. I completely forgot.”
His sarcasm only fueled my anger. I wasn’t in the mood for his wisecracks.
“What was the report on last night?”
He relaxed into his chair and clasped his hands together.
“There was a club shooting. Apparently, no casualties.”
“Damn it!”
I slammed my fist on the desk again. What was it going to take to stop him?!
Robert was silent and stood up. He walked to my wine cabinet and began to peruse through the
drinks.
“Might I suggest a drink to…”
“No.”
He turned and looked at me confused.
“No?”
“You heard me, Robert. I don’t want a drink. Things are bad enough as they are.”
“I see.”
He took out a shot and a small bottle of whiskey and carried it to my desk. He poured himself a
drink and toasted himself alone.
“Does this have anything to do with Miss Laura?”
I looked at him in horror.
“You know about….”
“No, no, no. Goodness gracious! But I do have my ears on the ground and it is quite suspicious
that the council hasn’t been on your neck for these past few days. I suspect a scandal brewing.”
He took a sip and relaxed. The anger in me disappeared and I leaned forward.
“What are you talking…”
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The knocking caught me off guard and I turned to the door. Robert sipped his drink calmly and I
asked the knocker to come in.
A guard rushed into the room and gave a deep bow.
“Forgive me, Alpha. I didn’t mean to intrude but Miss Erica is here to see you.”
******************************************************
I went to the main meeting room and sat on my chair, waiting for the guard to usher Erica in.
I readjusted my tie and made sure that my breath smelled fresh. I was determined to make her
mine. I wanted to give her reasons to give me another chance and leave that dick she was with.
The doors were flung open and Erica walked in briskly.
“I’m here, Dante, and you had better have something important to tell me. This shouldn’t be a
joke.”
She looked at me furiously but the fire in her eyes and the light blush in her cheeks made her
look overpoweringly sexy. Fuck! I want her even more.
“It’s nice to see you, Erica.”
She ignored me and sat on the seat that was a reasonable distance away from me. She didn’t
look me in the eyes and rather kept her gaze fixed on her bag or another random object in the
meeting hall.
“What is the important thing that you called here for?”
My heart leaped in my chest and I passed the papers that Robert had brought to me earlier.
“We did some searching and it seems that the profits have increased due to no significant
increase in resources or management. We believe that the workers have been going behind our
back and stealing and this could greatly impact us.”
She took the papers and perused through them. I watched her eyes dart across each line with
admiration.
She soon felt my gaze and raised the paper higher to hide her face.
“There is nothing wrong here, Dante. These documents do not reflect what you are saying. The
turnover seems to be quite constant. There are a few inconsistencies but they have all been
recorded and noted.”
My heart beat nervously.
“I assure you. There is something wrong.”
She looked through the papers again. She squinted her eyes and read each line slower than the
last.
My heart was drowning in guilt. There was nothing wrong. I just wanted her to come. I wanted to
see her. I couldn’t bear knowing that she was with Lorenzo.
“You’re lying to me, Dante.”
I looked up at her and her eyes were focused on me. Her face was filled with anger and a hint of
betrayal. I had been caught.
“Erica…”
“So you did lie. How could you?!”
She slapped the stack of documents and sent them spilling all over the place.
“That’s it! I’m leaving! I hate you, Dante!”
“Erica, wait.”
But she didn’t wait. She stormed towards the door and as she grabbed the handle, my hands
slipped under the table.
I watched her struggle with the door for a while then she turned to me, red with fury.
“It’s locked!”
She left the handle and faced me. She was breathing erratically and I noticed her body tremble.
“Open the door, Dante! I’m leaving!”
“You aren’t going anywhere, Erica.”
I stood up and she looked at me in horror.
“Dante…”
“I want you, Erica. And I will have you.”
