Chapter 43

Clarissa’s POV
I woke up exhausted. I looked out of the window and light barely came from it. It was evening. I
couldn’t believe how the day had gone by so fast.
I turned around and rubbed the empty space on the bed. Lorenzo had disappeared the same way
he did back in my room at Erica’s house.
I sighed sadly and grabbed the pillow that he lay on. It still smelled like him. I pulled it closer and
relished the scent of his expensive perfume on the bed sheets.
I had a wonderful afternoon with him and I was a fool to think that if I slept off, I would wake up
with him by my side. He had made it very clear that he had no interest in me and that he wanted
me to be his slut, his side piece. It was a fact that he would never put me above Erica. He fucked
me but Erica had a place in his life and didn’t even understand why.
I had watched them for years and they never acted like two people there were about to get
married. There was love in their life but it wasn’t as expressive as I thought it would be.
In the last few days, they had been very distant towards each other. And whenever I passed their
rooms in the evening, I never heard noises coming from it, like a couple who are drowning in the
pleasure that they gave each other.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door and I grabbed a housecoat from the bed.
I fastened the belt around my waist and walked cautiously to the door. My fingers trembled as I
unlocked to the door and turned the handle. A maid stood there with a bright smile on her face
and a tray of food.
“You are Miss Clarissa?”
I looked at the maid in confusion. How did she know my name and why was she bringing me
food?
I gave a frightened and skeptical nod.
“Yes…Yes I am. Is there a problem?”
The maid shook her head .
“Not at all. I simply came to bring you dinner and I also came to tell you that the young man that
stayed in this room left and paid the room for you for an extra week. He covered all your
expenses including expenses for your meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”
My heart beat wildly in my chest. Lorenzo had covered the expenses for me to stay in this
luxurious room for an entire week? Why would he do that?
“Uhmm… Well, thank you. Thank you for bringing me dinner.”
The maid gave a polite curtsy and I took the tray from her I went back inside.
I locked the door behind me and placed the tray of food on the table. I looked at it in surprise. I
had never been served food before and definitely not food as expensive as this. I had actually
wondered where I was going to spend my entire week off and thanks to Lorenzo, I had a place to
stay.
Maybe, he did love me. He was just scared to say it.
I sat on the soft bed and relished the memories of the pleasure earlier that day. The sheets still
smelled of our juices and I gripped them tights as I remember the intense and passionate
pleasure that I felt.
The scent of the room was tinged with the aroma of my dinner. I was so lost in thoughts about
Lorenzo that I had forgotten that I had food that I could eat.
I sat on the table and dug into my dinner. As the taste hit my palate, I groaned in satisfaction. I
never really had the liking for restaurant cooked meals. They were too overpriced and they lacked
the quality of a home-cooked meal. But this, was an exception.
Its tastes blended on my tongue naturally and I craved another mouthful. I began to wonder if I
could ask for a second helping after I finished this plate.
As I relished the tasty food, I heard my phone give a faint beep.
I turned my attention to the bedside table and it was there, for the first time, that I noticed a
letter I’ve been placed on my phone.
In curiosity, I stood up and walked towards the bedside table. I picked up the letter and glossed
over the beautiful cursive handwriting. It was from Lorenzo.
My heart beat rapidly and thoughts filled my mind.
Maybe he felt different about me. Why else would he leave a letter on my bedside table while I
slept? Didn’t lovers do that to each other?
I tore the letter open and glossed over the message as it held. As I reached the end, I felt my
heart leap into my throat. My hands began to tremble and my sweaty palms wet the paper.
“Dear Clarissa, I had to leave because I had a flight scheduled for 3:00 p. m. I don’t know why you
came to see me but I am sure that you got what you came for. I’ve traveled back to the pack and
hopefully, I will never see your face again. I paid for the hotel room for you and you can stay there
for a week. I covered all your expenses for your meals, spa treatments and extra food in case you
wanted second and third helpings. I also paid for room service and laundry services. I also left you
a clean dress in the wardrobe. The one you came in with was filthy. Check your phone; I sent you
some money. Go and spend on yourself and don’t even think for a second that you can be with
me, that you can be my woman. I don’t see you as someone I can spend my life with and you
should already know that I am engaged to your mistress, Erica. I honestly enjoyed the sex we had
but that was what it was all to me: Sex. Nothing more, nothing less. Enjoy your week. Lorenzo.”
I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces.
I tossed the letter away and grabbed my phone and just as the letter had stated, there was an
alert from my bank of a transfer of $200, 000, double the amount that he gave me the last time.
I sat on the bed and broke into tears. Truly, I was only his slut.
I gripped the sheets in anger and grabbed the lamp that was on the desk and threw it against the
wall. It smashed and a little spark glowed from the shattered filament.
I fell to my knees and cried my heart out. I couldn’t believe he did it again. I couldn’t believe he
paid me off like a whore, just like he did last time.
The worst part of it was that I knew that he was lying. I knew that he loved me but he valued his
relationship with Erica over me, his mate, all because she had more money and her father was
the Alpha of a pack. He had a lot to gain if he married her.
I gripped the tiled floor and my claws scratched the marble. My tears of sadness turned to fury. If
I was going to have to battle Erica for Lorenzo’s attention, then I was going to do it.
I went to the wardrobe and saw the dress that Lorenzo had left for me. I grabbed it and laid it out
on the bed. I stared at it and began to take off my clothes so that I could have clean shower.
I was going to make use of the money that Lorenzo gave me and I was going to go shopping. I was
determined to be better than Erica. If that was what Lorenzo wanted, then I was going to give it
to him. Erica was going down.
