The heat was scary

Book:Alpha's hostage Published:2024-10-15

She’s mine…
You’re not going to guitar her to me.
The growl of a wolf resounded annoyed, violent, shaking because it couldn’t get out.

Layan opened his eyes and his head throbbed severely. He put his hand to his forehead and ran his hair across his face. He had just had a strange dream. He could barely remember it, but there was still the feeling of a low, somewhat familiar voice echoing in his head.
He didn’t understand what that had been. It was strange, but for some reason he felt uncomfortable. Who the hell was it that was claiming what was his.
He opened his eyes to find the ceiling of his room above him. Light filtered softly through the curtains. He had slept long after dealing with his she-wolf’s heat. He was sure by now everyone in the pack had noticed since he was always visible or available.
He heard a faint sound next to him and found Priscilla completely asleep on his shoulder. Her face was calm, he figured it was because the rut was now under control until further notice. Surely he could rest before the new wave returned and she was ready for him.
He moved closer and kissed her forehead. His arm went around her narrow waist and squeezed her earning a grunt of protest from her. Layan smiled. He had never stopped to take a good look at Priscilla as she slept and could only say she looked like a puppy. A very warm and soft one.
He rubbed his cheek against her hair. After realizing his feelings it was like a door had opened and everything looked brighter. Like that’s how one felt when in love.
He loved the feeling. And more so when he had the she-wolf in his arms.
A knocking on the door brought him out of his thoughts. He growled and pulled her even tighter to him possessively. Males were known to get very dominant with their female in heat and he was no exception.
-Alpha,- Victore’s voice sounded soft, -Alpha Litus wishes to speak with you.
Layan frowned. He had forgotten that the wolf was still in his pack. His mind had more important things to really focus on.
-I’m coming- he said as quietly as he could so as not to wake Priscilla. She would need a lot of rest. The rutting exhausted the she-wolves too much.
Carefully and noting that she didn’t want to she separated from Priscilla and left her settled between the sheets. He covered her up and headed for the bathroom. After last night that just remembering it could make him hard again, he cleaned them both up, but he still needed a bath badly. Maybe this way he could get rid of some of the puppy smell and focus on his work. Something he knew would cost him a lot.
When he returned he found a ball made in the bed under the sheet. Priscilla’s head was no longer visible. He approached curiously and touched over the lump with a faint smile when a furry head grabbed one of her long locks and pulled it down.
-Hey, don’t pull,- Layan said smiling towards the wolf lying on his bed. He stroked his head and the wrinkled snout annoyed- I went to the bathroom and I have to do some things. I promise I’ll come quickly.
A very annoyed Priscilla for getting up alone in bed growled at him to pull his hair back down without as much force.
Layan leaned down and kissed her nose.
-You told me your zeal is mine, and I am true to my words– slowly she opened her mouth and the long hair slid down. Layan kissed the furry cheek to embrace her hugging the dark and furry she-wolf against him- Good girl-
Priscilla moaned slightly and stirred to lie back on the bed and close her eyes. Layan stroked her head and back until she fell back to sleep. He figured she must have reacted that way because of her own heat. She-wolves became very sensitive and possessive of their mates as well. It was the natural law to protect both their offspring and their future family.

Litus heard the door being knocked and opened at the same time. He had left it unlocked knowing Layan was coming, but the first thing he blurted from his lips made Layan frown.
-Priscilla is jealous.
-Yes, so what? – he said in a deep voice.
Litus was an alpha too and a strong wolf, but he kept a low profile in front of Layan. The red-haired wolf, with his flowing hair hugging his body sheathed in a pair of pants and a shirt he had barely bothered to button the first few buttons, with his very bright blue gaze and the shadow of his fangs in sight, was really scary at that moment.
-His smell is really strong Layan. I felt it since yesterday,- he continued.
-That’s why you have to leave. I can’t allow you to be around while Priscilla is jealous.
Litus raised an eyebrow.
-You’re afraid that I’m the one who’ll be the one to bond with her.
-You still want to lose your head Litus. I can kill you and I can assure you that nothing will happen if I do.
Layan growled loudly exposing all his quotation marks and his eyes suddenly turned golden. Litus knew he was provoking him, he couldn’t help it. Priscilla had caught his attention. Besides, she was also carrying his blood. He still didn’t understand why she had chosen him.
He sighed. He put his fingers between his eyebrows and squeezed it.
-Priscila really is a subject that drives you and everything about her out of your mind. I don’t really recognize you, but that’s not what I want to talk to you about,- he closed his eyes for a moment.
Layan’s alpha scent was invading the room. Outside the waiting wolves felt the dense atmosphere.
-Speak,- Layan demanded.
-There is something I have to tell you.

Priscilla watched from the window as Litus walked away. She imagined that her relationship with Layan after the kiss had left some rough edges. Part of the fault had been hers, she would have to work it out later, not now.
Her body had returned to normal, at least temporarily. She no longer felt the searing heat that had enveloped her or the need to be filled deeply. She still remembered how she had reacted yesterday next to Layan and how he had proposed to her and she couldn’t help a slight blush creeping across her face.
-That’s cute- she snorted low remembering the way he had told her to be the mother of his pups.
That wasn’t on her mind now though. She was very young and had barely lived lucidly in this world so Layan could wait a little longer. She already had one large, possessive puppy to raise enough to care for two. Layan was after all difficult to deal with in some ways.
She took a deep breath and stepped back. She was hungry being lunchtime already. Layan should be about to arrive any minute now. She didn’t want to stray too far from the room since her zeal was unstable. She wasn’t stupid, she had studied rutting before so she was prepared, though the books didn’t come close to what rutting really was.
It was scary. I had to admit.
She lost complete faculty of her functions and reasoning only guided by her instinct. She didn’t like not being in control of herself. She was thankful that Layan had held back, because if she had completed the link everything would have been ruined.
She didn’t know when it was that the symptoms would return, so she had to look for Liam but…. if he came back when she was outside?
If another wolf took her in full heat he could bond with her and her body would suffer rejecting Layan’s mark on her neck. She put her hand to her face.
-What frustration,- she lamented.
She had never imagined that finding him would be so difficult and that it would have taken so long. And also realizing all the cons, from the fact that she could control other people, that she could take over Layan’s body if he was aware of the fact that he existed and that she was still not prepared enough. Even now, after what happened inside the puppy’s mind he wasn’t so sure he could take him down.
Yes, she was strong, Layan himself had complimented her, but Liam was always one step ahead. It was like he knew what was going to happen, or what was going on around him.
No, she couldn’t focus on his zeal, she had to do something, even if it was locking him in her mind like that time and even if he didn’t wake up again at least she was keeping everyone she cared about safe.
But as she turned around to get the pill she saw a certain wolf walking away. This one stopped and looked over his shoulder at her as if he knew she was looking at him… and smiled at her.
-Liam,- Priscilla growled.
