The Dramatic Rescue: NYSSA
“My goodness.”
They were inside the space.
Ariadne moped at me as though she had seen a ghost’.
“You look like you died and came back to life, Nyssa. Come on, we don’t have time at all.” The woman took me by the hand, while I walked behind her and caught up with the car she had come with.
“I’m so sorry this is happenin’,” Darius hopped in the driver’s seat, lookin’ at me with aid from the mirror. “I should have known somethin’ was off but we didn’t talk or know each other so I couldn’t be so sure.”
I simply nodded and looked out of the window after confirmin’ that the phone was in my pocket.
“Let’s go. Thank you for comin’ to my rescue. But where are we goin’ first?” It was Ariadne’s turn to be looked at so I looked at her. Meetin’ her gaze, she took out a flask and handed it over to me who heaved a sigh. A sigh of relief.
“Thank you, Ariadne.”
“Sure, Nyssa.”
“We’re goin’ to my house. That’s where we’ll stay in the meantime until you’re ready to confront your sister. We must make it to that house.”
“Right.”
“So at least you can take your stuff from it. We’ll go with a truck so you have almost nothin’ to be worried ’bout. However, in the meantime, you’ll use my clothes.”
What was she sayin’?
I was ready to confront Calypso if I had an opportunity to at that moment.
But I was too weak to speak, so I didn’t bother but rather gave a nod. Food was the last thing on my mind, to my utmost surprise. I needed to lay my head on a good bed after takin’ a bath before finally driftin’ to sleep.
It didn’t take long for us to reach the gate of her house. With Darius’s help, I hopped down. Ariadne helped also, but it was when we were in her large livin’ room and she dropped the bags from her car on a safe spot.
“Come here.”
We walked into a room.
“Thank you so much, Ariadne.”
“You don’t have to, Nyssa.”
What would I have done without you?” A sigh ran out of my mouth and I fell on the bed, recallin’ somethin’ and then sittin’ up the next moment.
“I wanted to let you know that I’m willin’ to face them as soon as possible. But it can wait until tomorrow when I am much stronger.”
“That’s alright, Nyssa. Anythin’ at all that you want, let me know. But for now, this room is yours until all of these have been sorted out.”
I muttered. “Thank you.”
“Take a bath and your food will be ready in no time, mm?” Walkin’ to the door, Ariadne turned to look at me who gave her a nod, standin’ on my feet also and leadin’ my way to the door of the bathroom.
The next day, I was seated at the back of a car.
This time, I was not weak but more than ready to see the people I needed to see.
The driver stayed on the wheel for close to an hour before we caught up with the gate of the Estate. Just then, the man Kazmir employed to watch over it did nothin’ but wave at the sight of me – openin’ the gate the very next moment.
“Are you ready?” Someone asked.
“Yes, Ariadne. You have nothin’ to worry ’bout.” And we stopped at the gate of the compound. The compound of a house that once was my home. Like the stranger I had suddenly become, I rang the house bell and unexpectedly, it looked like Kazmir was not at work but seated in the veranda with his new love of his life.
The gate opened.
It was Kazmir who opened it.
“What do you want, Calypso?”
“She is not Calypso!” Ariadne cried. “You made the biggest mistake of your life by not noticin’ that that – this-” Calypso was by his side, shocked at the turn out of events.
“-this woman here isn’t your wife.” Ariadne just had to complete her sentence, while I watched from a distance, not knowin’ what to say.
It wasn’t his fault, after all.
Kazmir faced his ‘wife’. “She’s lyin’, isn’t it?”
Calypso couldn’t speak.
She only stared, lookin’ in my direction once in a while.
“Who set you free?”
Was that all she could say to me?!
Finally, I opened my mouth.
Words were heavy and I couldn’t speak.
“I came to get my things. That’s all.” And with this, I walked past the gate with Ariadne who had been my biggest supporter since the first day.
“I’ll get the trunk opened.”
Ariadne said and walked back out of the compound.
I stopped in my tracks to look around the room, not knowin’ what to say ’bout losin’ a place I once called my home. How dare Calypso?
Wipin’ my face with my hand, I started walkin’ again. It didn’t take long for me to reach the bedroom and I looked around, noticin’ the mess Calypso made of it.
Wasn’t this enough for Kazmir to notice I wasn’t the one? I ne’er left the room in this matter and what was that foul odour? I was still in my thoughts when the door opened.
I was expectin’ Calypso, but I met Kazmir.
“I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anythin’, Kazmir-” I started packin’ my stuff – startin’ from the boxes. “It’s not your fault but I can’t return to this house with you.”
“Why not, Nyssa? But you’re my wife.”
“She is your wife too,” I snapped and faced ‘im. “You must have had sex with my sister and we’ve had sex already. It’s a taboo in my place. I’m sure it is in your place also.”
He didn’t say anythin’.
I didn’t, either.
I needed to take with me everythin’ that belonged to me at some point. And then, I recalled the paintin’s in the art studio. My boxes and clothes were well packed already, remainin’ the paintin’s and inheritances from the tour we went on the last time.
“I need the key to the art studio.”
He got it out of the drawer. “Thank you.” Ariadne was in the space and takin’ the boxes with her out after lookin’ at ‘im and not knowin’ what to say. What could she say?
What could I also say?
And where was Calypso? The woman behind all of these? She must have run off, like she should. The men in charge of my kidnap must have a lot to explain to her.
