The Unravelin’ Truth: NYSSA
“My goodness. What’s this?”
Kazmir nodded. Like he was sayin’ it was better for me to see what he was talkin’ ’bout. “How did this happen? This woman looks like me, Kazmir.” Unsure what to say next, I took a seat on the chair and held my chest.
“What is happenin’?”
“I thought the same. What is happenin’? ’cause where did she come from?”
Standin’ back on my feet, it seemed like I had gotten an answer and at the same time, was ready to do what it entailed. “Can we discuss a way forward?” It was Kazmir askin’ but I was gone from his sight, with my phone in my hand. I couldn’t believe my eyes, not for any reason. Who would think that this would happen?
“I need to see my mom,” I said from where I was. “I’m callin’ Ariadne to take me to her right away.”
And I was gone from his sight.
As soon as I caught up with the room, I sat on the couch not so far from the bed and dialled Ariadne.
There was no way I would call her if I knew the way to that house, but instead lead my way to the house. I should have paid attention to the route.
“Can you come to the house as soon as now?”
“Wh-what’s goin’ on?” She asked from the other end. “You don’t sound good too. What is the matter?”
Hadn’t she seen it?
Mayne not.
“Just come to the house-” I begged.
“I need you to take me to my mom’s house. There’s a lot I have to ask her. She is the only one with the answer to my questions.” Without sayin’ some more, I ended the call and grabbed a towel from the wardrobe. There was not any time to waste and it was very important I got ready before the arrival of Ariadne.
Kazmir walked into the room while I was in the bathroom. The next thing I heard was his voice from the door. “What are you plannin’ to do, baby?”
In the shower where I was, with a bar of soap in my hand – I shook my head in confusion.
“I don’t know. Maybe I know,” I changed my mind. “Ariadne is on her way by now, I believe so. I’ve told her to come take me to the house of my mother. I know for a fact that she can provide me with the answers to all my questions.” I was done with my bathin’ and snatched the towel again from the line.
“Are you okay?”
I looked at the door. “Of course, I’m not. But I’ll be when I have all the answers I need.” I looked at the collections of clothes in the wardrobe and wondered which to go with. Then I recalled. “You should help with the gate when she is here, Kazmir. I’ll join the both of you in the livin’ room when she is here.”
He walked away, while I concentrated in gettin’ dressed. In a while, I was more than ready. After wearin’ my perfume, I walked out. The housebell sound made me heave a sigh, turnin’ around to take the purse I planned to use and then turnin’ back around and walkin’ out of the room.
“Hey, Nyssa.”
“Ariadne,” I hugged her, and then handed my phone to her. “That’s not me. Who is she?”
Confusion greased her face when she handed the phone back to me. “I wish I knew. Who is she?” She asked and looked at Kazmir who took out his time to explain what the issue was, startin’ from his experience at the restaurant, down to that mornin’ when I saw what I saw. “We should get goin’. I want to see the end of this.” She said when Kazmir finished his story.
“I want to go with you.”
Kazmir.
He was on his feet and I shook my head, reachin’ his spot. Plantin’ a kiss on his cheek, I shook my head again. “No, baby. You don’t have to come with us. But be rest assured that I’ll brin’ back all the news to you, mm?” Kissin’ his cheeks again, I walked to the door to meet Ariadne who said she came with her car so there would be no need to take Kazmir’s.
“Don’t shout when she is speakin’.”
“I don’t plan to.”
She chuckled. “I will if it were me, Nyssa,” she confessed and looked at me. “But don’t do that with Violet. She can be in some kind of way when addressed in ways she doesn’t want to be.” She added and I gave a nod, feignin’ understandin’.
“I won’t shout. I just need answers. That’s all.”
And she parked at the gate of the house we had been to the last time. Wavin’ at the man by the gate, we drove past ‘im and parked in the lot. “Come on.” She said and hopped down before me who took my time to do the same, but after feignin’ a smile.
In the large livin’ room, we were waitin’ again.
Finally, she showed up. Ariadne looked at me who gave a nod and then met the gaze of the woman who looked at the both of us with a questionin’ gaze. “It is Nyssa who has come to see you.” She explained to Violet who now fixed her gaze on me with the smile I admired so much on her face.
After narratin’ what happened, startin’ from Kazmir’s part of the story down to my own, I relaxed on the chair and waited for her to speak.
“Di-did you say all of these happened?”
Anger was pullin’ up inside of me. If it didn’t happen, will I say it did or even be here in the first place? I wondered and looked at Ariadne, changin’ my mind to sayin’ what I wanted, especially when I recalled what she said ’bout talkin’ right.
“Yes, Mother. All of these things happened.”
She nodded, and heaved a sigh. “I see. I know I should have told you that day, so you don’t get to come back but this is what it is.” She got on her feet, walked to the room and back to the livin’ room. “There’s somethin’ ’bout your birth you should know.”
“What are you sayin’?”
“The truth.” Violet said. “I know I should have said it that day, but I didn’t. The lady you have seen as well as your husband is your sister. To begin with, she’s your long-lost twin sister separated at birth.”
