The Unmaskin’: NYSSA
Although somethin’ was off with ‘im, I couldn’t place a hand on what it was.
Darius, for the first time since the last time I saw ‘im, showed up at the house and when Kazmir was with ‘im, he came back inside to grab his phone – causin’ me to catch sight of the grimace planted on his face.
I had looked at Ophelia who was busy with the show on the television screen and once more, looked at the screen to continue with the show.
When Darius left, he walked back into the house. I left the show and followed, catchin’ up with the door of our bedroom in due time and settlin’ on the bed next to ‘im.
“Will you tell me what happened already?” I asked when he heaved a sigh. “What did Darius come to tell you? Is everythin’ okay and what’s the update?”
He looked at me, now smilin’. “What update?”
“What are you sayin’, Kazmir?” Frustration pulled up on my face. “The man who is against you, of course. What else can I be referrin’ to?” I scoffed, adjustin’ so that our bodies could meet. “Tell me ’bout it. You know fully well that I’m willin’ and ready to support you, even in crimes. So tell me what it’s ’bout.”
The man looked at me again. He dropped his phone on the bed and said. “Theodore Crowley is ready to take over my company with threats of takin’ me to court for the things I have done in the past,” he said and I gave a nod. It wasn’t a new thing, after all. “Instead of bein’ scared, I am bold but unsure at the same time. I don’t want to lose you, the company, or my marriage. Don’t you get it?” He got on his feet and paced the space. “I should have known that someone close to you would give out the information you have given out to her.”
I posed a question that made ‘im turn around. “How do you know it’s a she?” He took a seat next to me again. “I thought we weren’t sure of the gender of who this person is. Did Darius tell you today?”
“Yes-” he gave a nod, shakin’ his head the next moment. “I believe it’s me who is guessin’ that it’s a she, baby. Or what do you think? I mean, Lysander, even though I don’t like ‘im, cannot go ’bout doin’ things like this. He has a business and a good life to live unless it’s the opposite of what he shows us he is.”
I mouthed words with a smile and got on my feet so that I could also pace the space. “Who do you think will have a hand in this, then?” I looked at ‘im when I turned around again.
“I have not the slightest idea who it is,” he confessed with the look of worry planted on his face. “I wouldn’t be this confused if I knew who has a hand in this.” He added and an idea struck me.
“I’d like to have Ember’s contact, can I? It’s been ages and I’d like her to come to the house for a moment with me, as usual. Or do you have a problem with it?”
Without thinkin’ twice or hesitatin’, the man took a seat next to me on the bed and took his phone.
After openin’ it by inputtin’ his password, he handed it to me and said. “I don’t think I have anythin’ to hide, so get her contact on your own. The name I saved it with is Ember.” He explained further to me who gave a nod and started the search, catchin’ sight of the E section while in moments, the contact was retrieved and sent to my mobile device.
“Thank you,” I got on my feet and paced the space. “I’m tryin’ to reach out to her.” I added and dialed the contact while I waited for her to take her calls.
“Hi, Ember. How are you doin’? This is Nyssa Draven on the line. It’s been a while best friend, how have you been since the last time we talked?”
“Nyssa!” She shouted from the other, causin’ a smile to come alive on my face.
“It’s been ages and I have missed you, best friend. Kazmir told me you were out of the hospital but I haven’t had so much time to reach out and I am sorry. How are you and how is Kazmir?”
I sat on the bed this time.
“We are doin’ very well. How have you also been? I thought I should invite you over for dinner. You know, it’s been ages since we spent some time together and I’d love to see it happen again. What do you think?”
“That’s a great idea,” she confessed from the other end. “But I don’t know if I’ll be able to meet up. Work and the rest are takin’ too much of my time and at the end of the day, I need all the rest I can get.” She let out, disappointin’ myself and Kazmir who shook our heads.
“But-” she sounded, causin’ glints to appear in our eyes. “I’ll be there as soon as tomorrow evenin’. Let me know the time and costume if there are any and I’ll be there. Thank you so much for the invite.”
“Yes!”
Although she doesn’t know I know her password ’cause she’s ne’er given the phone to me but I, on the other hand, have seen her use it on several occasions. The next day arrived in a hurry, maybe ’cause we thought too much ’bout it.
By evenin’, Ember was in the house. It was a good moment for the both of us – meetin’ after a long while of not settin’ eyes on each other.
“Come, take a seat-” I urged while she walked with me to the dinin’ table.
“It’s been so long and I miss you so much.” I didn’t lie ’bout it, after all. “What would you like me to serve you? I plan to treat you right today.” I took my seat when she was seated, watchin’ a door open and Kazmir was walkin’ down the stairs.
While pleasantries were exchanged between the two, I got on my feet and snatched Ember’s purse from the chair, hurryin’ to clonin’ her device in a safe spot before placin’ it back in the supposed chair where she left it. With a smile, I walked back and took a seat on the chair, thankful for not gettin’ caught.
Kazmir kissed me.
“I’ll see you later, baby. My sister and I need to go on a walk before she finally leaves,” he kissed me again and walked to the entrance of the house. A door opened and Ophelia walked out of it, all the while I was busy lookin’ through Ember’s details from the screen of my phone, gettin’ shocked at the same time.
How could she do somethin’ like this?
Not wantin’ to conclude, I scrolled some more and caught sight of what I was lookin’ for.
Meetin’s with Theodore Crowley. Details of my life that were sent to ‘im and the money he paid her for betrayin’ me.
“Wow!”
Unable to hold back my shock, I let it out.
“I didn’t know you would do this to me, Ember,” I looked up to meet her gaze, pointin’ at the door of the livin’ room. “Get out of my house!”
“Wh-what do you mean?” She looked around for her purse and rushed to grab it, also lookin’ into it to be certain that her phone was inside. “What are you sayin’, Nyssa? What wrong have I done?”
Changin’ my mind, I shut the door and walked to her – standin’ in front. “Why not tell me why you have sold me to Theodore Crowley, and what you have to do with ‘im? And don’t even think of lyin’ to me, everythin’ on your phone is right on the screen of mine.”
