“Doctor!” Rosalind suddenly interrupted, pulling the doctor’s coat to the side. “I have an urgent matter right now. I’ll come find you when I’m free. I have to go!”
The doctor was startled by her sudden outburst and nodded woodenly, leaving with a puzzled expression.
Behind her, Johnny walked over, making Rosalind’s heart race.
Luckily…
He spoke first, “What did she just say? I didn’t catch it.”
“Nothing much. I had a check-up earlier, and there were some issues. She told me to go back for a follow-up as soon as possible.”
Johnny raised an eyebrow. “Why would a follow-up require discussing with your husband?”
“Why are you asking so many questions?” Rosalind thought to herself that she wasn’t that familiar with him. This person was really annoying, always prying into everything.
But he was indeed someone who loved to dig deeper.
“Just curious! It’s fine if you don’t want to say. I can ask the doctor.”
“Because the check-up showed that I might never be able to get pregnant, so the doctor wanted me to discuss it with my husband. Does that answer satisfy you?”
Rosalind pretended to be irritated, as if her sensitive spot had been touched, which indeed intimidated Johnny.
His face showed embarrassment and guilt. “Ah, sorry! One last question, is this why you divorced Ulric?”
“I’m not that selfless. You know the Walters family doesn’t like me and always wanted to break us up. Including you, didn’t you also hope for Ulric and Sirena to be together? After thinking it over, opposing the Walters family wouldn’t do me any good. Plus, Malcolm treats me well and doesn’t come with all these troubles, so I chose Malcolm.”
“…”
Rosalind realized that Johnny was hard to deceive, so she tried to make her lie as convincing as possible.
Unexpectedly, her words ignited Johnny’s anger!
“You gave up on Ulric for this?!”
“Yes.”
“Then he must be blind! He treated you so well, wholeheartedly, almost holding you in the palm of his hand. And you just casually said you chose some damn Malcolm and dismissed him?!”
Rosalind hadn’t expected Johnny to be this angry.
She frowned silently and looked at him.
“Didn’t you hope for Ulric and Sirena to get married? My leaving should be a good thing for you.”
Johnny was stunned for a moment and then clicked his tongue. “That doesn’t stop me from scolding you! I’ll definitely relay these words to Ulric exactly as they are, so he can see your true colors. Sirena is much better for him!”
Rosalind tugged at her lips, which were so dry that they cracked and bled a little.
“Well then, can I go in now? Or do you want me to leave?”
Seeing Johnny smoking at the door, she knew Ulric’s condition must not be too serious. So… whether she saw him or not didn’t really matter.
“You are really cold-hearted!” Johnny snorted coldly and pushed open the ward door. “It’s not that I want you to see him; it’s that I think Ulric would want to see you! If it were up to me, I’d send you straight to prison, no, to hell!”
“Heh.”
Did Rosalind still care about going to prison or hell now?
But these were things Johnny didn’t know.
…
In the ward, Ulric lay quietly.
If it weren’t for his pale face, he would really look like he was just sleeping.
An IV was attached to the back of his left hand, while a monitor beeped steadily on his right side.
Rosalind walked over gently, wanting to reach out and touch his skin one last time, feel his pulse. But her fingers stopped midway in the air and didn’t go further.
Suddenly-
The person on the bed murmured, “Rosalind…”
